I’ve enjoyed jumping around in GW2 quite a bit. Perhaps a little more than was expected. I’ve gotten into areas that pretty clearly weren’t intended to be accessible, like a house in Divinity’s Reach that has no interior model. None of these involved game exploits, at least not that I know of, just clever jumping.

Is going ‘out of bounds’ bannable in GW2? I mean, if you’re doing it in PvP to gain an advantage is one thing, but doing it in PvE doesn’t benefit you and if you’re not in a city actually COSTS you, assuming you want to get out.

IMO it shouldn’t be (unless it lets you get things you shouldn’t or attack other players in ways you shouldn’t), but certain other game companies have disagreed in the past, so I’d really like clarification.

It’s pretty nice yes that you just can go where you want to.
I’ve even been in a place where I was out of the map.
I can tell you, the textures are really weird there.

But to be honest, I wasn’t looking to go out of the map. I thought it was the way up to a skill point challenge.

When I got to the house in Divinity’s Reach, I was trying to get onto a balcony that happened to be phantom, then decided to go as far as I could on the roofs I fell onto.

I almost decided to take a little shortcut I found in Diessa Plateau the other day but I wasn’t sure if I would fall eternally or not

It isn’t bannable, obviously, as long as you don’t get any huge unfair advantage.

That’s what players in a certain other game thought when they found a way into the old part of a certain city. That’s why I want Anet clarification.

I don’t think it’s bannable as long as you report it I think.
And of course you don’t have unfair advantage and make use of that advantage.

It is not bannable. But with the recent patch notes:

  • Fixed bugs that allowed players to go around map edges

ANet considers it a bug. Sad but true.

Anyway, I too enjoy finding places the devs do not intend us to reach. It’s a challenge to defeat the devs. Especially since that it is pretty obvious they did everything to make sure we can’t go to these places. Noticed how few supposedly-unreachable areas there are? It’s a sign that they spent a lot of time testing every zone – probably hired a group of people to do one thing – jump and jump and jump more.

So, when I find a place, it’s an achievement for me. I’m happy. I enjoy it.

Exploring isn’t banable. I done this several times in console games in the past that I enjoyed playing. Finding new heights and scenery just by jumping around is all good.

Unless you get stuck in place!

Haha, true. Happened to me twice already, like “nooooo!! I have to start all-over again.” Lolz.

Definitely not bannable unless you exploit it as an advantage, but I think the Devs want you to jump all over and explore as much as possible. I think some of the ledges were put into the game just for the nice view.

For a game that rewards exploring I’ve found way too many invisible walls or otherwise impassable terrain and the character’s mobility and climbing ability lacking. Made the exploration feel fake.

Already been outside the zone’s borders on several maps. Also managed to somehow get behind walls in some places. Other times I just fall into a pit I can’t go out of.xD

Just who the hell do you think I am!?

It shouldn’t be bannable I’ve gotten beyond map barriers several times because I was thinking there has to be a hidden jump puzzle here somewhere. And as you mentioned we are only greeted with endless drops and weirdly textured terrain, no advantage gained.
