So after a rather lengthy time away from GW2 and coming back, lots of things have changed. Currently working on building resources and currency to achieve Ascended gear for the upcoming Revenant profession, and looking at different gear sets it has none the less peaked my curiosity.

How viable do YOU think “all stat” gear is? (The kind with every stat of every kind)

I see this gear set as a viable option for some professions that can be good supporters like the Guardian or Engineer. What do you guys think?

Jack of all trades, master of none, does not seem to fit the game plan from what I’ve seen.

Since you can generally do any of the PvE content in very high damage gear at the moment, celestial is a bit unnecessary. However, for WvW (the reason I got my ascended celestial for ele) and possibly raids (Tempest has a balance of condi damage, flat damage, and healing, so celestial works pretty well there), celestial works very nicely as a more defensive/support set for Ele (possibly engy too?) that doesn’t entirely give up the damage potential of the class.

Celestial (all stat gear) has been great on my staff Ele. I’m not the hardest-hitting or most durable member of a team, but I do good damage, keep myself alive, and do a lot to keep other people on my team alive and hitting hard as well.

It’s never going to be the most efficient for clearing encounters quickly, because it’s not pure-offense, but depending on your playstyle, you might not care so much about pure efficiency. I usually do dungeons and fractals with casual-oriented groups, so keeping everyone alive yields better results than going for pure power and winding up on the floor.

You really need to make good use of the various stats, though, to make it worthwhile. If you’re not doing condition damage and healing, for instance, then you might be better off with something more focused.

When I wear Celestial gear, I kill so slowly, I’m practically creating life rather than taking it.

I recommend against it. Notice how a lot of people responding in this thread are elementalists? Well ele’s have great condition options with their power build. Revenants don’t.

The class is pretty black and white, and your role depends on your stance and each stance has a trait line supporting it, and a general weapon you should be using as well as a stat breakdown.

Sword mainhand goes with devestation spec goes with shiro stance goes with zerker gear

Mace mainhand goes with corruption spec goes with mallyx stance goes with sinister gear

Staff / x/shield goes with salvation goes with centaur stance goes with cleric gear

x /shield goes with retribution spec goes with dwarf stance goes with PVT/tank gear

Regardless of which you pick, your swap stance is dragon stance and your 3rd spec is herald. The class is clearly designed to revolve around herald, especially for party play, and there is no non herald revenant spec that makes sense.

So as you can see, each stance/spec has their own set of things you want to accomplish and there isn’t a whole lot of overlap like there is with ele. I highly recommend avoiding hybrid gear with revenant, based on my experience with him in bwe3.

in all the BWEs i have run reverent with Celestial armour, but more power based trinkets/weapons, and have really liked it. i think it works well. and that is with ascended gear too, as I have already made the sets myself. Though Celestial ascended would be the most time consuming set to make.

i think it fits for reverent as he can do a bit of everything, and I’m not one to carry 3 to 4 sets of armour around with me, I’m a 1 set and that’s it.

Celestial gear is currently meta for elementalists in PvP and WvW game modes, and additionally, I believe that one of the groups that completed the raid during beta used a celestial guardian as their “High toughness” person.

So, it’s clearly a viable stat set for certain classes.

It might work on shiro/mallyx for SPvP but that is as far as you can expect.

For Celestial to be any good for a class, it needs to check the following boxes:

-decent base damage
-decent base condi application
-able to use all stats including Healing Power (HP only scales decently with regen)
-able to build and maintain Might by itself.

Rev ticks the boxes on a few, and can do very well with the might. Condi only works with Mallyx and on one set of weapons. To make use of the HP you’d need to go Ventari. To get good Might uptime either shiro or Herald.

Herald has some support for group healing, so you’d be looking at Glint/Mallyx as a build, and my first impression is that it would be less than optimal.

Celestial builds are very good in sPvP in the moment due to the viability of might stacking and their all around capabilities. Might stacking has been nerfed a bit and the addition of specializations has made it hard to get optimal stat distribution around your celestial gear/amulet… but they’re still pretty darned good. Also, I rarely visit WvW but I don’t see why the success of celestial builds wouldn’t carry straight over to the WvW format.

As for PvE.. well, they would work, it’s just.. there’s nothing that requires them per se or can’t be done better with other stat spreads.
