I just now thought to post about this on the forums, but I have a question about outfits like the ones you can buy on the Gem Store. Back a while ago, I purchased two gem cards at Best Buy for the Black Friday sales and got several different things, including the Ceremonial Plate Armor outfit and the Wreath of Cooperation. What I wanted to do was use all of the plate armor except for the helmet and just use the wreath as my head item, to give it kind of a royal appearance, since I’m really big into royalty and such. However, I didn’t realize that these outfits covered all of the armor slots, which somewhat disappointed me because I really hoped to use the two together, because both look really awesome.

So this is my question: is there any specific reason why we can’t hide parts of the outfit so we can use non-cosmetic gear in its place? Has this been talked about before? I’d love to see an update that changes this, but I was just wondering if this has been discussed before or not.

nope you cant use outfits with anything but the very outfit you got on atm, means if the outfit got no pauldrons then nothing will change that.

At some you can hide parts, at others you cant. Mostly you only can hide the helmet though.

You only got 4 dye channels for the whole fit, individual pieces cant be coloured, 4 slots for everything so you cant for example make blue\green pants and a red\yellow top with blue\silver gloves and black\brown boots or whatever.

If you wanna use your Wreath of Cooperation you will need to use skins for the rest of your look aswell.

In other words.. outfit blow (imo of course)

Well, I’m wondering if A.net has some sort of technical limitation here or if it just hasn’t been thought of yet. I hope they could do something like this so I could use the wreath with the outfit.

heh… if they would just make the darn outfits allow to get mixed and maybe give the head slot item as a sepetate item skin or whatever so that it can get used with normal armors id actually buy em, i gladly would use the mad prince facepaint on a char or that samurai hat on my thief or whatever….as for now they can keep that nonsence no matter how good it looks. I dont play a game with a wardrobe system that allows you to go nuts with all the skins you collect to just look like everybody else who wears an outfit.

But yea.. if you gonna buy that heavy plate outfit dont waste your time trying to combine it with anything, wont work man. Take it like it is or let it be cause more then to hide some pieces and use 4 colour slots for the whole fit you wont be able to do.

I just wish they’d at least remove hats from outfits and make them skins and allow you to use any hat you want with them. >;(

Pieces of outfits can’t be mixed and matched because they’re one continuous 3D model. Armor skins are individual models that are individually rigged to fit the character’s skeleton. That’s why outfits don’t clip with themselves – but certain pieces of armor do clip with others. Also why certain parts of certain outfits can’t be hidden – because pieces of outfits are hidden with alpha layers. The hidden pieces are still there, just masked out. That’s not possible for every piece of every outfit.

I doubt the hats are part of the contiguous models/rigging though. It would be very cool if we could at least use those separately.

It’s nice to hear the various responses here, it really would be nice to at least be able to use custom headgear. I mean, the outfit itself is cool for if you were going into battle or something, but it would be nice to be able to wear it with, as I said earlier, the Wreath of Cooperation to give it kind of a Roman victory look.
