Outfits..
The outfit will go ‘’on top’’ of your armor. Technically, you still wear your armor, but have the outfit to replace the skin on your armor. You will not lose any skins on your armor, as the outfit is just a toggle on and off. Remember though that outfits are single pieces, so you can’t just get one for the gloves or pants. Only part that can be separated on an outfit is the helmet, which you can toggle hide like normal headgear.

Oh, so if I buy it, it puts the skin on my entire armor and I can switch it on and off any time, I understand?
Can you please tell me whats the difference between outfits and armor skins then? I see this Zodiac heavy armor skin in the gem store..and I’m confused whats the difference…thanks!
Outfits are one full piece of clothing that goes over your armor, replacing the look of your armor. All armor weights (light, medium, heavy) can wear them, and you can use them for free anytime, once you’ve bought them.
Armor skins are skins that go over specific pieces of your armor, and you can only apply them for free once; every other use of the skin will require a transmutation charge. They’re also restricted to their specific armor weight. Example: The Zodiac heavy armor skins can only go on heavy armor pieces.
Outfit: Infinite use, but you can’t use just a piece of it (you can toggle the head on and off, that’s it, your regular headpiece won’t show with it). 4 dye channels for the outfit, same dye scheme persists through all outfits until you change it so you need to keep a list of preferred schemes for each alt and outfit if you care about such things. There are no weight restrictions, it just covers up your worn armor.
Armor: You get six pieces and each is one free application of the skin to existing armor. You can then apply the look as much as you want from your Wardrobe (to any alt) but only to armor of that weight class. So a Mesmer can’t wear Primeval as that is Heavy Armor. However you can use just one piece here and there with other armors, so you have a lot more mix and match freedom and you dye each piece individually; it retains the dye even when unequipped, until you redye it.
Yup, the question you generally want to ask yourself before you buy an outfit is: “Do I like the look of this set in it’s entirety (or at least without the helm) with only dye color changes or do I only like parts of this set?”
