Guild wars 2 has always been known as a game that its endgame is cosmetics, as all of its most expensive and prestige items are purely cosmetic and give no hard power advantage in combat, making it more known as Fashion Wars 2.

But Apart from new weapon skins occasionally through raids or black lion sets, or 1-2 skins every few months in a living world update which if you don’t like well wait another 1-2 months, there’s basically no new skins coming at all for a year or two now.
Even the gem store skin sets are gone and nothing new is coming.

The issue I have with this is that it makes my characters look dull to me at some point and I want to change their look, I can usually only go back to things I’ve already used. The options feel very limited, because there are not that many skins out there.

Since the “fashion wars” is such a central part of the endgame of this game, I feel this is an issue that should be worked on especially when there are easy solutions.

You may ask me “Wait why don’t you use outfits then? They do come out on a fairly regular basis.” My main issue with outfits is that they make you feel like a clone in a sense. Nothing about it has personality that belongs to you in anyway, which is something the Wardrobe system avoids very well with many color combinations etc. Also most outfits will have something that you don’t like, But you’re forced to take the whole package or nothing at all.

That is why, an easy solution to this in my opinion, is to make all outfits in the game unlock skin counterparts in the wardrobe when you purchase them. Yes some outfits can have some issues with it in the sense that all the parts are very well connected and it’s hard to split them off, which is why that feature of an outfit can and should remain in the outfit version.

This would open up so many possibilities for new looks and would personally make me interested in so many outfits that I would just never would have used before because a specific part of it would spoil the look I wanted to achieve.

TL;DR
Make it so that all outfits unlock skin counterparts in the wardrobe to help increase the diversity of armor combinations players use.

At least let us be able to show other head gear along with the rest of the outfit.

This part I agree with. But OP, you are pretty much asking to have outfits turned into armor. The whole reason they make outfits is that they have so much trouble making armor. (Whether that should be the case is a whole other discussion and has many threads already on it). They don’t have the resources to do that, they’ve said so.

Purchasable wardrobe slots into which one could put armor pieces, then switch slots at will would allow players to create their own “outfits.” ANet could even require T Charges to put a piece into a wardrobe slot or change a piece in a slot.

Then they wouldn’t be outfits but armor sets.

The reason that they are outfits is because it takes considerably more development time to make and test an armor set, even one weight. Development time is important because they are sold in the gem shop, where paying off the cost to create as fast as possible is important since every one sold after that point pays for game development and not just item development.

Also because outfits weren’t designed to be split into separate pieces a lot of them can’t be separated easily.

They probably could do it, maybe make some like the medium flame legion armour which hides whatever leggings you wear with it, or the pirate costume under the old town clothes system where the top and trousers were one item and hid whatever trousers you were wearing.

But even that would be a lot of work.

Basically stop buying outfits. If enough people do that, Anet M A Y B E E E will consider spending resources on armor again. Though I doubt it would work, I’m still not buying any outfit unless it is cultural.

Second option is to wait for GW3. Then maybe they will implement a better way to make armors. Or maybe they decide to just make only outfits forever. Who knows.

As much as I would love to have dual options, my understanding is that the tech for outfits is different, and the reason why skins are so time consuming is all the armor weights have completely different rigs.

So, I feel ya, but don’t get a cramp keeping those fingers crossed. :\

I understand what you’re saying and I like the idea of mixing and matching too but the thing I like about outfits is I can wear cloth on my heavy or medium armor characters and vise versa; with armor skins, I can’t do that. My Guardian loves her dresses. It would be great to be able to do both.

That’s not going to do it. It’s cost Vs income generated. Adding more devs to make armor isn’t going to make it cheaper, just faster. Armor cost to many dev resources for a gem shop item selling at 800 gems.
