Outfits have a transmutation charge?
And yet, now you can use them in combat, which was not possible before.
They are a company, they need to make money. And one could assume that making them usable in combat actually took some kind of time and effort, and thus it did cost them money to change it.
Would you rather have them unusable in combat?

Umm you buy the armour once and then if you want that same skin on other chars or a second set of gear you pay transmutation charges which can easily be earned in game from clearing maps or gaining PvP ranks.
None of this is new (besides now being able to earn the charges/stones/crystals, whatever you want to call them) and it was like this before this last patch.

If the OP is talking about the ones you are speaking of (cooks set etc) then these cost NOTHING at all to use in game, they just sit in the costume or whatever it’s called slot and is FREE to toggle on or off.

That’s true and that is a nice feature but I even managed to mess that up by removing it to see if I could put it in my bank account for another character to use and when I discovered I couldn’t do that I tried to put it back on in the Hero Panel and you guessed it, I needed a transmutation stone or whatever.
Other than this one feature, this is a great game and I was having a ton of fun until I bumped into skins. I wish I never purchased any. All my other purchases were fine and worked like I thought they would.
I bought the deluxe version and in the first couple of days purchased 80 USD worth of gems, so the actual cost of the transmutation charges is relatively small in comparison to total cash outlay so it’s not really the economic impact that upsets me it’s more a case of the marketing scheme is what I object to. It just leaves me with an overall negative feeling towards the game, as great as the game is, was.
I suppose if ArenNet took back the skins and gave me back the gems to purchase other stuff my objections to playing this game would be eliminated and I would just avoid the whole issue of skins in the future. I opened a ticket but to tell you the truth I will be very surprised if my request for a credit is granted.
I’m just making a point and there has to be others that would object to the same thing as I am and because I enjoyed the game I thought I would at least put the subject into the arena of conversation and maybe ArenaNet might take notice.
As to the fact that they are a company and need to make money I can understand that and was more than willing to purchase more gems to buy more in game items to help them in that endeavour.
I have several extra sets of “Outfits” that none of my characters can use because once you unlock for one character, they unlock for ALL characters. I only have one toy per set though.
No idea where transmutation stones comes into play with these. No idea how you removed the sets either. For me they just seem to be there. I have the Mad Kings outfit and the Witches outfit btw.
Akari Storm is right, they just become a sub-locker and you can swap freely between them in the outfit tab; learn the outfit on one alt, all the alts have it. Though any dye scheme you’ve saved gets wiped if you swap to another outfit.
I didn’t think you even -could- remove them from the locker once they are outfit skins. I suggest you submit a ticket so ANet can look directly at what you did and help unravel it.

Tbh I can sort of understand where you are coming from in some ways with some of the things this new wardrobe system did but the fact in this case is you are just not totally aware of how this system works in regards to the outfit you are talking about. I just tested it myself with my executioners outfit.
All you need to do is to log in on another char, open up the wardrobe (through the hero page) and then go down to outfits and you can see all the unlocked outfits you have. From there you can drag the outfit to that char’s outfit slot and he has it. You will see the charge pop up thing come up but it wont charge you anything, it will even say the cost is 0 charges. So you see this is far better than the old system. In the old system if you wanted the outfit on multiple chars you truly would have to buy the whole outfit again. This way you buy it once and it’s unlocked for all your chars and they can equip them for free! So just give it another try and you may be back at that 100% happiness again.

Those extra outfits really have no use now, go ahead and delete them. For some reason I was given an extra 2 sets of executioners sets too. But they really are not needed since you simply open up your wardrobe and the unlocked sets are there anyways. You just uncheck the check box to not see the set on your char. To remove the outfit, simply right click it and there is a remove option.

Maybe the OP received some Outfit consumables, as I did, after speaking to the BLT Armorsmith, and is unaware the Outfit is also in the Wardrobe.
For some reason, I was given 3 Mad King Thorn consumables. I used one to unlock the Outfit in the Wardrobe, and put the other 2 in the bank. I only have one associated Toy, though.

Yeah same happened to me, like I said above feel free to go ahead and delete those extra 2 outfits. I think they are just an anomaly that came with the wardrobe system. They really are not needed.

Thanks for taking the time to supply me with that information. You’re right about me not understanding the system, I’m a newbie and I don’t have a hot clue as to what I’m doing. This information does mitigate my feelings of loss in regards to outfits and I can wait until I’m at a high enough level to use my armor skins so I don’t really feel too bad about them.
You may have done ArenaNet a favour and I am now more inclined to get back into the game but I think I will take a small hiatus from it anyway.
I just dislike the feeling that I’ve gotten myself “trapped” in a situation that I don’t like and since stuff like that eats away at me I would rather put a game down than be vexed by some of it’s behaviour.
Again, I do appreciate the information.

You’re given multiple inventory items of the Outfits because you get one for every piece of the outfit you are wearing. They do that in case some people deleted some pieces and only had 1~ You only need to eat one of them (to unlock) and can toss the rest. They cost nothing to change between.

..What? Outfits dont use charges to wear on other characters. Armor skins you use, such as the Zodiac armors, do use charges because they’re a skin of the armor, not an outfit.
