What do I do now?

I want to start moving on in this game but things seem so focused on the endgame. What should I be working on to play through this game?

Any Tips for finding groups and progressing?

Lots depending on your play style and likes.
Find a guild if possible to allow you to find people to run with. Also the looking for group tool works rather well.

PvE:

  • Do your dailies
  • Harvest everything
  • Map exploration, hearts, events that you find, ignore random mob fights
  • Bosses and ask for events in map chat
  • Crafting as you acquire materials

PvP:

  • Hotjoins and unranked matches

WvW:

  • Level 29 – EoTM or borderlands during off peak times, practice killing guards, sentry posts, kill enemy Yaks, practice soloing camps, repair structures.
  • Again: Harvest everything since its easy XP and allows additional options

Hope that helps and have fun!

If you couldn’t even bother to level up one character to level 80 in 3 years I don’t think we can help you at all.

For about 3-4 hours after reset, I see guilds recruiting all the time in the major cities, especially Lion’s Arch and Divinity’s Reach. Pick any one of those that appeals to you; if you don’t click with the group, try another. You can even join up to 5 guilds at a time and swap your “representation” between them.

While you are choosing, start exploring. You can do that alone (or with a group). And follow your nose. The game will guide you (sort of) to content your character can handle or you can ask in /map chat or check the wiki (by using the in-game command, /wiki). The world map also shows the level of the game’s zones.

Long time GW1/GW2 players tend to describe the entire game as “end game” while those coming from traditional MMOs sometimes say they can’t find the “end game” — that says to me that “end game” isn’t a very useful term for describing the content you are trying to find (or avoid until L80). That’s why I recommend that you just get out and see what’s around.

PS ignore the inevitable cynical remarks — some folks have trouble getting into the game and some never do. Only means the game isn’t what people sometimes expect.

If you dont like the journey i dont think you gonna like the endgame. Dont force yourself to like, it, play a bit of the 3 aspects of the game (wvwvw, sPvP, PvE) and try to find what feels good for you, no need to rush, the game have not run away (or update) anytime soon

Why do things seem focused on endgame? o-o Leveling is half the fun.

If you’ve only got to L29 then maybe the class you are playing isn’t the one for you at the moment. Try some other classes and you’ll probably find one that just clicks for you.

Race can also be a reason you lost interest. I recently deleted my furball warrior to make a human one and am enjoying that a lot more.

As has been mentioned, I’d also recommend you join a guild to get the best out of the game and give you a group of people to get ideas from. And if you don’t gel with that guild then move on.

And most of all….Have fun!

Sorry…that was me….. :(

At level 29 what have you done so far? Are you enjoying what you have done so far? I am assuming you only have one avatar – are you enjoying playing that character? If you are not enjoying the class, try some of the others – some might be better a fit than others for your own play style.

There is so much to do in this game, focusing on the ‘end game’ is not the end all be all. Exploring can be wonderful – there are many lovely areas and surprises out there. I still find areas that I go, “Wow!” Try different things to see what appeals to you and what doesn’t. Fractals are not my cup of tea, but I tried them because I was making Mawdrey II and I am glad I did. I would do them if I had to but I did not necessarily enjoy them. Some of the folk I did them with really loved doing them and were very kind at teaching us fractal noobs what to do. Now I am just learning some of the dungeons because I want to make a Legendary and you need to do some of those to get the Gifts you need to complete the particular Legendary. I am finding those interesting and actually fun and now wished I had tried them earlier.

If you have a particular interest or activity then look for guilds that match that. There are lots of fun guilds that can help you with WvW, PVE, dungeons and events. Check to see if your server has a forum somewhere and see who is posting there. You can make a lot of good connections that way and find guilds that will match your interests. If you have friends in game, partner up with them to complete areas. It is a lot of fun going around with others.

Set small goals such as completing one map or just getting all the way points on a map and then going back later to fill in the hearts and POI just as a change of pace. If you decide you want to farm, run a map just looking for materials. Or run a map looking for events to help level up. You really don’t have to complete the personal story – I have only done it on two of my characters, though some of the rewards are nice when you do complete sections.

The main thing is do what is fun for you. This is play time, not a job. Find folk to laugh and joke with and run about with. Do what you want to do and look for fun things to do. Some of my best times in game have been coming across strangers working through an area and we started running together, helping each other out. I have also completed things solo and felt really proud that I was able to do that by myself.

Just go forth and look for that fun!

I think this was meant as snark, but it’s actually fairly solid advice.

I picked up a second account a few months ago during the $10 sales, and my toon on it is already level 57 — even though he’s never left the trading post.

Login rewards are OP. You can level your toon completely just by logging in.

TJ: Just so we can understand your rate of play could you type in /age in the game chat box and let us know how many hours it shows across all characters?
This will allow us to better advise you.

As for the game being focused on end game I would have to disagree. Until recently there has been very little focus on the classic End Game.

Most of us PvE players who have been playing since launch have many characters who are already Level 80, in Exotics and Ascended weapons and armor and have 100% world exploration. I can’t personally speak for PvP or WvW. I can only imagine, though you may have had the game installed since launch, you have not logged much play time since then.

I see that you play an Elementalist. That is arguably one of the hardest characters to play due to their play style and squishiness(it is my personal favorite though). Maybe you want to consider something with a flatter learning curve like a Warrior and see if that is easier and more fun for you.

How often do you log in anyhow? Even if you do nothing but log in every day you can get 16 levels a month.
