PC Gamer poorly reviews Feature Pack 2
Maybe this will get their attention.

Yeah, i wonder if they will listen to that? i wonder if it needs to happen in more places. I wonder if Wooden Potatoes and Matt Visual will have the testicular fortitude to speak honestly about this update.
Soraya Mayhew – Thief
Melissa Koris – Engie – SF for Life!
Nope. This won’t make a difference. They didn’t revamp the trait systems (which is a much bigger issue), they won’t revamp the measly changes they did to leveling.
I wouldn’t say that this is a poor review as more of a not so good impression and more about a summary of what most of the community thought of the feature patch. Either way, I do see where he is coming from with this.
This is more a comment on the fan’s reactions. I don’t think anyone at PC gamer tested it. They certainly didn’t say they did.

At this point I don’t think they had too, I think everyone but Anet gets the message.
They should tell PC Gamer that they have to go with the time. Metrics and extensive tests proved that this is what “we” want. To all our surprise, even Anet’s, but there you have it.
Ok, seriously, I have no problem to offer new players, especially new players to computer games, a proper tutorial, the times of nice game manuals that you could peruse at your leisure are gone. But honestly, the player should be able to turn the tutorial off.
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”
I don’t think this review will change much. The corporate overlords in suits have decided this is what must be done. Probably trying to get people to buy XP boosters.
Luckily veterans got their scrolls and tomes to get through that faster.
This game is becoming the icon if inconsistency. About to break the record set by politicians.

They wont, they might risk losing their benefices such as logging in before anyone else, having inside trading perks thanks to know WELL in advanced how the economy and items will move, etc.
If anything they might give a small “discontent” or “it could have been implemented slightly different but lets give it time to see” or that kinda stuff.
As for a large company, Anet barely do ads now a day, they rely mostly on word-to-ear communication of the community, I recluted 2 co workers, 1 friend, 2 cousins, I was excited for the game, all of them are avid MMO players overall, only 1 of them remains, and none recommends the game anymore, just like I wouldnt anymore.
It isnt sourness, I still play and enjoy the game, but I realize that it sure isnt as promising as I once thought it was. Who knows, perhaps Anet proves us wrong, but I sure as heck pity the poor newbies. I made a new character after the first pack, the traits were the most uncomfortable thing, I had to spend a lot of gold and SP, now for the patch i decided to just use 60 tomes of knowledge, it is THAT unbearable to lvl up

Ofcourse they don’t say it u whiteknight.
When I read a review on a gamesite and I don’t see anything where they litteraly tell that they played the game, then man, I won’t take that review seriously!!!Dude, your white knighting is losing its touch.
He’s not a white knight. However, I can’t state my opinion of what he really is, since I’ll get an infraction again. Just bear in mind that he is able to actively defend the game for at least 8 hours a day (check his posting history) and does so on every thread, with a PR-esque demeanor.

Actually, the author stated he had not yet tried out the new leveling process. Just to be accurate.

You can honestly like something that others don’t without it having a nefarious and dishonest purpose. :/
And all who stood by and did nothing, who are they to criticize the sacrifices of others?
Our blood has bought their lives.
I don’t think the game needs any of these so called ‘collections’. At a time when other great multiplayer games are being released, not adding exciting new content to GW2 (that would make players happy) will surely lead to an earlier demise.
New content:
1. More skill choices (for each weapon)
2. More traits (a trait tree or trait network)
3. More weapon combinations
Even adding the ability to save current weapon/armor setup as templates would have been a HUGE improvement to QOL…
(edited by mage.3570)
Don’t really care how PC decided to publish the article/ the fact alone that a major gaming publication has written about the game in a negative way has been way overdue and hopefully has some impact.
New content:
1. More skills
2. More traits
3. More weapon combinations
But those would be confusing and difficult to learn for new players…

Is it even a review to begin with? People need to stop confusing “reviews” with “commentary”. The writer basically comments on the negative reactions of the playerbase and that he may look into the problems with more detail. He isn’t whiteknighting but rather stating the obvious

Whoa.
Guys, I was just trolling the threads. Just like Anet likes to troll me a a huge % of their own playerbase.
I tried it with reason, trying to get healthy discussions, they don’t listen. Maybe trolling helps:)
They only said fans reacted badly, they haven’t said anything on it other than he was looking forward to the balance changes.

Always funny how people who don’t like something are willing to sacrifice truth to score a point.
This thread is labeled PC Gamer Poorly Reviews Feature Pack. What I see, as opposed to that is, PC Gamer reports on fan’s reaction to feature patch.
These are very different statements. You, not liking the game, are happy to use it to prove your point, even though it’s demonstrably inaccurate. One doesn’t have to be a “white knight” to point out something that is both true and fairly obvious.

Unlikely… they are clearly being paid by Anet to produce positive reviews.

New players this…new players that, I’m sick and tired of it. They should simply dump these new players in a different instance called ‘Reatard Mode’ (intentional sp) and be done with it.

BUT THAT’S TOO HARD AND COMPLICATED. WE NEED MORE TUTORIALS!
I mean really all they have to do is those 3 things (of which I have been waiting since release for) but they are going in the COMPLETELY OPPOSITE DIRECTION.
Thanks for giving the moderators the potential to lock this thread due to name calling and off topic posts.
Vayne stated something which is most likely true and relevant to this thread. There is no need speculating whether or not he has three monitors or if he is able to post and play two more games at the same time.
I rarely read PC Gamer online, but I read the magazine for around 10 years and I found it to be mostly spot on for my personal taste in regards to games.

Nice implication. I could just have a lot of free time, and not like people who use hyperbole to try to make a point. You probably haven’t noticed there are a number of complaint threads every single day that I don’t post in.
I’ll post in this one, because the title of the thread is not what the article says, which makes it misleading. This isn’t PR talk…it’s fact. PC magazine is reporting on the fan reaction. My opinion is that it’s an over-reaction, but that’s just that…my opinion.
I post for a lot more than 8 hours a day. That’s because I’m always on the computer, I have duel monitors and I haven’t slept since the 70s. lol

Haha, sleep. I haven’t had a body since launch when I uploaded my consciousness to the cloud.
Vayne, I think everyone is mistaking proper grammar and spelling (along with manners and etiquette) with PR speak. even when I disagree with you, your posts make me happy because I don’t think I’ve ever seen a wrong form of “their they’re and there”.

My thoughts exactly. Apparently all these new players are all mouthbreathing idiots according to the new levelling up experience. ANet is catering to a lowest common denominator, one that hardly exists. There are more old players in this game than new ones, a lot more. Everywhere I go I see people with Loyal and Veteran titles or late 80 titles. Every party I’m in for world boss events has people with 4000-13,000+ achievement points. Most players know how to avoid damage and NEVER needed a kitten “learn how to dodge” tutorial which actually makes you dodge INTO something rather than away (like the spinning golems in the Mists). I rarely ever see new players or even very inquisitive ones asking for all kinds of pointers. Once in a while you get someone asking for the mystic toilet in LA but that’s really it.
Anet is way out of touch.
A shill, also called a plant or a stooge, is a person who publicly helps a person or organization without disclosing that they have a close relationship with the person or organization.
“Shill” typically refers to someone who purposely gives onlookers the impression that they are an enthusiastic independent customer of a seller (or marketer of ideas) for whom they are secretly working. The person or group who hires the shill is using crowd psychology to encourage other onlookers or audience members to purchase the goods or services (or accept the ideas being marketed). Shills are often employed by professional marketing campaigns. “Plant” and “stooge” more commonly refer to any person who is secretly in league with another person or organization while pretending to be neutral or actually a part of the organization he is planted in.now you know who is what.
Defamation—also called calumny, vilification, or traducement—is the communication of a false statement that harms the reputation of an individual, business, product, group, government, religion, or nation. Most jurisdictions allow legal action to deter various kinds of defamation and retaliate against groundless criticism. It is usually regarded as irrational unprovoked criticism which has little or no factual basis and can be compared to hate speech, which is can also be taken to encompass discrimination against a particular organisation, individual, nation, corporation or other political, social, cultural or commercial entity which has often but not always been entrenched in the practitioner by old prejudices and xenophobia.

+ 1—-love it! True or not.
Suddenly the “worthless opinion from a random guy on the internet” is worth something?
You guys are funny.
1 week ago if someone posted something about a GW2 review everyone would say
“Oh look, just another random guy on the internet giving his OWN opinion on the game, which is worthless for everyone but him”
…..I don’t think they had too, I think everyone but Anet gets the message.
Really? A review of a patch doesn’t need to be tried or tested at all by the reviewer? When players start accepting these obvious short cuts as acceptable practice…well, video game journalism has been highly questionable in my eyes for at least a decade and this just supports my stance.
I’m not being supportive of the changes, just absolutely against accepting some “reviewers” opinions of a game patch simply based on “fan” feedback and hearsay from a bunch of forum complaints.
Fate is just the weight of circumstances
That’s the way that lady luck dances

Perhaps if it was just one or just a few random guys. There is a lot more than one or a few, and if you can’t get that yet then maybe you need a safety helmet yourself. Luckily this patch has just supplied us with many safety helmets, diapers, and training wheels. Thanks ANET!

A mixed pack, then—one with some genuine improvements, but hampered by potentially off-putting systems. Personally, I’m most interested to see how the balance tweaks change the game’s PvP, and whether it finally makes certain classes (like the poor, previously neglected Ranger) a more viable option. But, as someone who’s been toying with the idea of creating a new character, I’m not thrilled by the prospect of a more simplified progression. Expect more detailed impressions when I’ve had a chance to fully explore the new systems.
Emphasis mine.
I think this Feature Pack deserves criticism, and this impression isn’t optimistic about it, but let’s wait for the actual review before you start holding it up as a death sentence.
Just like when articles are posted praising GW2 and Anet, people say to take what was said as a grain of salt. Same can be said for negative articles. Lets not have double standards.
Restore that which was lost. And all shall be as one.”
I can understand limiting skills, weapon swapping maybe not so much. My problem is limiting the exploration is stupid and i hope they change that back.
Do we know if the wvw and spvp limit is character based or account based.
Account based makes sense so as not to overwhelm brand new players, but character based is a very bad idea since one of the things they pushed when the game launched was being able to lv i wvw without ever having to do pve

What a good review : “I didn’t really play it but here’s what I have to say based on what I’ve seen on forums”. Isn’t the preresquisite of a review to actually play through the content you are writting your review on ?

ALL IS NEGATIVE. Forum rage supreme!
Honestly I was enjoying leveling my new Charr yesterday. I’d say my least favorite change was the weapon unlocks, but honestly it was also my most favorite change. I hated unlocking those later skills on weapons so slowly. On all of my weapons. Ugh. But now it’s a bit like… doesn’t matter what weapon I choose, I’ll have the same amount of progress there. I actually really appreciate that change.

Well that’s just the thing. From the look of it, they’re now going for bottom-of-the-barrel-never-played-a-video-game-before audience. And I’d be astounded if they didn’t already predict fallout from veterans due to these changes.
The way I see it, they are making a financial gamble, banking on revenue from the super-mega-casual crowd, at the expense of a chunk of loyal players.

On your first character they unlock. All other characters can WvW and SPvP from level 2.

When every hardcore white knight I’ve seen over the past two years has long stopped posting and Vayne still remains. It does make you wonder. Pretty dam(n)ing for Anet if it’s true.
But then again he does come from Australia. A place where people have too much free time on their hands.

The only problem is forcing it upon alts. Fix that and most of the complaints go away.
How to fix it?
1. Either give out scrolls lv20/40/60/80 (easiest but wouldn’t make every complaint go away)
2. Force the system upon new players, leave the pre-patch system for the veterans.
3. Something else?
Bring back: ‘Gamer’ title + MAT’s!
Throw out: Hotjoin!

Idk. Maybe give the option to either unlock weapon skills by killing or by leveling. Maybe keep the leveling by default and you can go into options to choose by killing? I don’t know if that’s technically feasible. But I feel like the other changes would be welcomed more by the community if you could do more than just 1 111111111 in the first part of the tutorial lol

I can’t believe people still trust the ‘gaming press’ to wipe their own snot, let alone have meaningful coverage or commentary.
