There is about 6900 different languages in the world.
Are you really suggesting that they should translate the game into every single one of those languages?

They have translated the game to the languages that are big enough to warrant the money, resources and time to translate it for. Simple as that.

Every new language they need to translate it for would require a rather large amount of money, including hiring full-time translators for them seeing as they release new stuff quite often.

Because I’m sure that the Polish market isn’t as big to make the investment worth.
Anet didn’t make a Portuguese version that would include 2 bigger markets (Portugal and Brazil) , yet you don’t hear much complain.
Germany and French had a very established community in the GW1, besides there are many more countries in the World that speak those languages than Polish, so the investment would be profitable.

EDIT:

Probably 90% of Blacktide ppl are Polish.

I strongly doubt that.

You can’t say it is worth french and German but not Polish. Polish has Germanic roots and would not be that big of a stretch. I am sure as time goes on the will have many more translations. It is not coming soon though.. sorry man. No Czech for me ever prob.

There is a rather major difference between German and Polish. For one the Polish language is NOT germanic, it is slavic.

There is not enough people in the world speaking Polish in order to warrant hiring several new full-time employees and voice-actors.

With the release schedule for the game they would need to have the translators available more or less at all time, even after the main game is translated, due to them adding new stuff every two weeks.

Sure you can, Poland has half the population of Germany and slightly more than half that of France(also, French is an official language in many other countries as well)

If GW2 will be available for example in Africa they sould translate GW2 to their languages. Look! It isn’t! Right now except NA it’s only available in EU. Because of this they should translate GW2 into more EU languages. I don’t know how to say it easier. They need to translate GW2 into more EU langauges because ANet developed it also in EU. No need Africa languages If GW2 isn’t availabe in this continent.

Actually GW2 is available more or less world-wide. Asia being the exception (for now.)

It is fully buyable and playable in Africa, in South-America and in Oceania, so going buy your logic they should they need to translate it for all those languages as well.

In fact, at relase day they knew what they takes. Arena Net shouldn’t made GW2 in Africa, EU etc If it isn’t translated, but they made that. Now – consequences By the way could you tell me from where they took money to translate GW1 into Polish etc?

Or maybe people should accept that most (if not all) games don’t translate to every single language? If you don’t want to play a game that is not available in your language, maybe you shouldn’t buy it without checking if it is available in your language?

GW1 was a much smaller game with WAY less voice-work (in fact, I don’t even think the voice-overs were translated to all the written translated languages), and much fewer (and farther between) releases.

They would still need to pay those translators for translating stuff more or less constantly, due to the release schedule, so it will still be a rather big cost.

And if they do this, we will simply see posts about how people feel like second rate players for not having the voice-overs translated and we are back on square one with people demanding translation.

Translation does not necessarily mean dubbing. Those things are different.

I know, I have never claimed they are the same (quite the opposite actually in the post you quoted), but translation also takes time and resources. It requires more than just pressing a button.

Why me? Updates are free… :P

You are the one demanding that they push money into something a very small part of the player-base MIGHT like (not everyone wants games translated after all).

What you are demanding is not an update, it is basically a rewrite of the whole game (with constant updates that needs to be translated as well).

I’m polish aswell and honestly i don’t see any reason at all to translate this game to polish. There is simply no need for it aswell as nothing to gain from it.
We are a fairly poor country, MMO gaming market is pretty small here, so no financial gain for Anet.
Those of us who are MMO gamers, are allready quite fluent at english so why bother? Translate for the sake of translating?
I always play in english even when game has polish option i never use it because polish translations are terrible full of mistakes and misinterpretations, for example Dragon Age where npcs were adresing my male character as a female :/

The official EU languages are English, French and German. There are a lot more languages in the EU. The US is officially English but has a huge Spanish pop, some places more than native English speakers. Most of the games that I have played go for the official languages of the region not the total number of languages in the region.

Edit: wiki on Spanish in USA
The Spanish language is the second most used language in the United States. There are more Spanish speakers in the United States than there are speakers of Chinese, French, German, Italian, Hawaiian, and the Native American languages combined

As you see I don’t have a problem with English which I already said. I want PL in GW2 because Arena Net developed this game in all Europe, not a little bit of it.

And yet you are unwilling to pay the money needed for it.
There are about 80 different languages spoken in Europe. The amount of work needed to translate all that would be extreme.

And then they also would need to translate it to the rest of those thousand other languages for the rest of the world where the game is available.

One of the reasons I would make games English language only. Unless it’s core language is different, like Japanese etc, it should offer a translation only to English.

let’s face it – English is an international language which is I believe, basic foreign language taught at schools worldwide.

I believe Germany and France have some kind of legislation regarding gaming where the clients need to be translated and thus they will have their own language servers too. It’s all tied to their weird laws on dubbing and translating every form of media.
Of course many germans and french players do speak english as well, but I’d still say it hurts them more than it does good. In GW2, organizing anything in overflows is a challenge because of various language barriers.

Anyway in GW1 everything was translated. I know, in GW2 voice exists but we don’t need dubbing because it’s different thing. You think Arena Net need cash? What about Gem Store? In GW1 they had money without it…

I am 100% certain that GW1 was NOT translated into all 80 languages used in Europe (and definitely not all 6900 languages used worldwide.)

They are getting enough cash right now.
But what you are suggesting would increase there costs MASSIVELY, which would most likely mean that the current income would not be enough, nor would the few potential new players be enough to warrant spending those kind of monies.

GW1 also had an in-game store actually, but for some reason people do seem to ignore that.

EDIT: I just logged into GW1 to get the exact amount.

10 (or 11 if you count Bork Bork Bork) languages for the written parts.
6 languages included audio.

That is rather far from all languages in Europe or the world for that matter.

I would actually be willing to translate all text and dialogues into my language (Croatian). However, that won’t ever happen due to rules and procedures that big companies have. And also, it would be very hard for them to verify how correct the translation is.

So yeah.. I live in Europe and I’m perfectly fine with English language and I don’t care about the game being translated into any other language (though I would do it personally just for fun) . O don’t see any valid reason why it HAS to be translate to Polish, or any other language. It would be something extra, nice to have, but seriously it’s not needed in any way.

I think that your country would need to have a publisher willing to translate everything to your language and maybe even create a server for your country.

Here in Brazil blizzard released WoW fully translated and voiced in portuguese, even the monthly payment fee is suited to brazilian standards. Here blizzard charges something like 6 dollars per month from their subscription.

But i generally agree that i think it´s impossible and short sighted to demand having GW in all languages. Today it may be polish, tomorrow czech. And on friday it´s bavarian Oo

Sorry, but i don´t even think german has a real need to be implemented. It would make it SO much easier if the game would just be available in english only. No more mess in an overflow. No more hassle with different languages.

Please Anet, reduce the amount of available languages, unify it and make it easier for the sake of conversation.

OP is correct in his claim that Blacktide has a lot of Polish players (however, the 90% figure is ridiculous, made up, and completely untrue). Blacktide is an unofficial polish server, so most Polish people play there. What you see on Blacktide is NOT the common thing. Polish is seldom seen on every other EU server.

Such a small minority of the playerbase speak Polish, and ArenaNet (a business first and foremost) would not profit, and would instead lose, financially if they translated the game into Polish.

I haven’t even mentioned that quite a number of those who do speak Polish would rather play the game in English because it keeps their English language up to a good standard.

You’re wrong in here. Slavs and Germans have very little in common when it comes to origins and language especially.
Local dialects like Silesia one come from the fact that those territories were under the influence of germanic culture and language for a long time.

Polish people, same like Czech are part of Western Slavs, Sclavinians who came after German tribes moving west.
Heck, even the name for Germans in Polish actually means “Those who don’t speak [our language]” – Niemcy.

Common words come from Latin language group mostly, coming with christian culture in 10th century A.D.
Other could’ve been introduced during wars, occupations and trade through the history but these are single words or phrases.
Polish and German fonetic, grammar are so extremaly different to this day.

Back to OP: As a Polish player I’ve never felt that translating the game into my language is so urgent. If we want to consider that, there’s no real need for dubbing, subtitles are perfectly enough, same like in the first game. As others have said, Polish language is understandable to so little amount of people around the world
But I’d like ANet to focus on the lacking profession balance and permanent content for now.

Besides, raw translations are never perfect. It’s same like when non-Polish/Slavic players play Witcher series – some jokes, references and specific pronouncination, atmosphere are only understandable to native speakers and get lost in translation.

As we speak about translation, I have to mention one of hillarious translations from the first game, e.g. :
-One of the bosses was translated as "Onan, the Giant “Stick” "
-One of the boss titles were “X, Forever Hard”
And many others….
