PVE is... Dead?
Okay i was so hyped up for the release of this game i played the first Beta weekend. Got 3 days early access heck i even watched the countdown for the games release. I pretty much played this game to Death until i got bored. I never got to lvl 80 tho because i heard the end game wasn’t so fantastic. So here i am lvl 65 in the 60-70 zone with not 1 soul around i cant do any events and hearts take a long kitten while to complete solo. So here im thinking …what happened to all the people that were roaming Tyria doing events hearts etc the world feels dead. I really hate to say it but i just needed to make a topic … My guild is pretty active but there is hardly no one in world. So ive come to the conclusion i can no longer play. :/
PvE isn’t dead, but it is most definitely hurting. I have 4 level 80’s. I pushed hard for my first 80, rushed to the end, farmed gold for t3, got world completion, did tonnes of events.
Fast forward a bit, leveled my ele, almost all zones were dead, pre-crafting nerf I got a lot of my levels crafting and Orr was just about dead, but PoG was still being completed regularly. My thief, completely empty world, again leveled jeweler/LW pre-nerf plus WvW. This last Friday I got my guardian to 80, probably 10-15 people at pent/shelter, did plinx with 1 other person and Melandru which took roughly an hour+ getting enough people asking in LA/guilds/LFM in Orr
WvW, FotM, Dungeons is what people do now, no reason at all to explore, or do events else where.
Pve isnt dead but not as popuar as wvw fotm and dungeons also lions arch dwellers.
I feel bad for all the engineers necromancers in etc i come across in pve because im just thinking to myself “You shouldnt have chose that class nobody will accept you unless you’re guardian warrior or sometimes thief” Not saying i wouldnt accept em i dont judge professions im just saying a high amount do.

I main a Necro and play FoTM and other dungeons every day. Never had a single issue with anyone complaining about my class. Not sure why you would think people do.
As for PvE being dead, I have NFI what your talking about. I can’t go two minutes without running into people everywhere I go. Sure there are is a bigger spread going to WvW and dungeons, but there are still people everywhere. I can only guess that maybe its the server you are playing on.

Tarnished coast friend. And you are one of few then who dungeon with no problem i commonly and i mean it strongly commonly see people hosting games and restricting anyone but guardians or warriors.
Glad im not on your server…. oh and its the freaking middle of the night on a sunday. People got school and work to think about.
That said thats why there has been so much of a buzz for the next few big updates as thay focus on current content.
Don’t have that problem on Jade Quarry. Of course I can’t speak for other servers.

I wont say your wrong but im on TC as well and i see plenty of people that dont have restrictions. But than im also in a guild that dungeon runs (as well as all other content) and if we need a few pugs we dont discriminate.
But than are guild leader is also a necro and she has the most servivabuilaty of any one i have ever seen
Everyone is in fractals. Go to LA and you’ll find everyone. Just run those until 80, you’ll get better rewards anyhow.
Open world is still waiting for its stimulus patch from Anet. It might be a while.

Mate im in Australia its 3pm here. Im on Yaks Bend suppose to be high population… but i think the server population thing is wrong on all servers.
On far shiverpeaks I’ve actually seen quite an increase in players out in the world lately.

Game over
Open world is almost always empty for my on ehmry. Rarely bother with events or anything since they’ll take too long. This is consequence for poor reward systems in both dungeons and open world. No one can turn a decent profit from actually playing. Hoarding fine mats and selling them during spikes on fridays is the only real way to make gold aside from AC/FOTM runs.

Well, to Anets defense they do have a January content patch coming out, and any smart company would prioritize fixing that little boo boo (making Fractals >>>>>>>> Open world to the point that open world is almost dead) over anything else. I wouldn’t give up hope just yet, next week I imagine we’ll be seeing an announcement about how they will spread the population back out.
@Levi.
I think you are correct on the server population issue. I tracked my server for a week and it read full 24/7, this is not the case.
The most common sense answer is the population indicators show characters made on those servers, not people logged in.

Come on now I’m on Ehmry Bay and there are people even in the Charr and Norn areas. On my Engineer who’s level 39 not once have i come across a dead zone and I’ve gone through the human, charr and norn areas. You must be playing way after midnight. I’m currently leveling in Lornas Pass and i run into a lot of people. -_-!
Dungeons? Try gw2lfg.com
PvE content? You’re pretty much screwed.

That was actually confirmed by an Arenanet poster some time ago. I used to think it was based on people logged in, and would constantly suggest to players trying to get on my full server that they should wait until the middle of the night… but then a player pointed me to that post.
It is indeed based on characters made on the server, and NOT characters logged in at the time.

Hello everyone.
Connor, when you see a server FULL means that the people who’ve chosen that server as theirs, or players who have moved to that particular server, have reached the cap, independently of where did they create their accounts.
Answering to your second question: no, there is no chart that shows that kind of information at the moment, I am afraid.

I transferred from Henge of Denravi almost 2 weeks ago to Isle of Janthir. There are less people in PvE there, despite IoJ being listed as very high whilst HoD was only “high”. The reason for this is because there are alot more people in WvW than in HoD. And by alot more, I mean thousands. Meanwhile, everytime I have been in HoDs straights of Devestation you get 200 players “üncontesting” the temple. Meanwhile in IoJ, the first time I go there I had to try it with what ended up only being 10 people (where we failed obviously). The population size of a server would more accurately reflect the WvW population than the PvE population at present. At least I believe the lower pop servers are more likely to have a larger amount of PvE players from my experience.
I am on Gunnar’s Hold and I’ve been leveling alts lately- there are people up the wazoo everywhere.
I really think it might be a server thing- I see all these threads about how the world is empty and I have never experienced it, ever.
My new engi must be really cute because she can’t walk down the road with out getting a party invite.
If I actually want to play alone I have to play at really odd times
Lies, the game is busting at the seams with people. After midnight pst on a Sunday night and I’m still in overflow. Just attended a dragon event in a mid level zone with a ginormous crowd of people. And it’s everywhere you go!
As fast as they lift server caps, the servers fill up again. The game is a smashing success

It’s not lies, l could just say what you posted is all lies.
Most areas are dead on my server, very few of the harder DE,s, events and event chains get done, waypoints have been contested for ages.
Everybody will have a different experience l guess, but if it goes on like this, the dead servers will die.
I guess increasing server capacity would help, whatever their plan is they need to get a move on pronto.
Otherwise people will be “moving on”.

Sadly this is the truth – rather than blame Anet, fractals was a response to the “need to grind” communities clammor.
PvE is not dead—It’s lacking.

There’s your problem. Yak’s Bend is not an oceanic server.

Hah, so thats how “nice” RP folks are? They’re also baddies then, if they need some kind of pr0 elite setup to deal with PvE. xP I have never encountered such behavior myself, although i see sometimes in chat ppl asking for specific class, like guardian would be nice, or ele preferred, but thats about it.

Pretty sure the Server pop is not active players at one time. I think it’s how many accounts there is on that Home world, even if 50% ain’t been used there still on that home world

I really wish they would confirm that again. If that was the case then why are some servers getting full on weekends (when more people play) and are high during the rest of the week? (and medium at “off hours”) it doesn’t make any sense and contradicts what is actually happening….

Without guesting, folks may be transferring all over the place. Free transfers do still exist, and they may be playing with one group one week and then going to another group the next week.

In that case some servers would “drop” but that’s not the case, there are only some that have increased population during peak times, it’s not transfering for sure. And that comment by CC Eva
“when you see a server FULL means that the people who’ve chosen that server as theirs, or players who have moved to that particular server, have reached the cap, independently of where did they create their accounts.”
It doesn’t say if they are currently online or not. She just said that those who chose that server or moved there reached the cap, without mattering where they first created their account. There is nothing there about also being online or offline, maybe a mod should clarify it more, it is vague and contradicts the facts with your (and others) interpretation.
Also from wiki:
If a world is currently listed as Full, the population is too high and players will be unable to transfer to this world. The population status of a world does vary based upon peak hours, so watching a Full server at off peak hours may allow a window of opportunity to transfer to this world.
Im gonna add my 2 cents in about this.
I think ANet are moving to try fix this, they have made a few small steps already like having a part of the monthly be for jumping puzzles, i do 2-4 different ones a day and see a pretty good amount of people. It may not put people all over zones but around where the jumping puzzle entrances are ive seen a good handful of people doing DE’s there. An example was in Iron Marches i seen 5 people doing the DE chain near the jumping puzzle then proceeding to do the jumping puzzle with my friend and i. Its not the biggest step to fixing the issue, but if we get some solid addditions to this with the up coming patches i think we might see a rise in population on different maps.
sorry for bad grammar its late for me :P

I am new to the game. I love jumping puzzles, One Problem is. I got no idea where they are. I was Diessa Plateau going for the skill point at the bottom middle right, after I got it my monthly said i done 1 jumping puzzle. So i think i found one lol
Sorry again I am new so….
btw I am enjoying the game and see plenty of people in the world, More than I did in WoW. Well before they did the Cross realm tech
Pve isn’t that most classes utlity and dmg skills/traits for PvE are horrible bugged atm.
You picked a bad time to come back. They released something called fractal dungeon where only the best gear can be obtained and also the best loot drops. They have also nerfed the open world loot drops to 0 to force people to run fracs or buy gems.
The consequence of this is a dead world.
A couple of solutions:
1)transfer to a higher pop server if possible
2)wait out and see if Anet plans to re invigorate the world
3) try and find a partner to help out
I did my exploration and ya it was dead 1 person maybe that is it in the zones so I understand your pain. Try and be persistent.
Good Luck
Looking in Lions Arch seems to be full of people i think were experiencing what happened in wow when players were not going out into the world just standing around the capital city eg. Stormwind. Arenanet needs to make some changes so those players get back out into tyria!
Well, GW2 is pretty much the same dungeon crawler as every other MMO.
The PR team did a pretty good job of deceiving us.
Like someone said earlier. I’m also on Gunnar’s Hold and I’m not saying the world is crowded, but there’s always people around. Temles inOrr get taken down regulary, and if you shout out events en mapchat there’s usually enough people that care and come help. There’s also several active bigger guilds that I see helping out eachother in pve. So we are probably better off tjan most other servers.
Has anyone ever suggested an unofficial dedicated pve server (similar to the unofficial rp-server?)
