Warrior by a mile. They have been the most played class the last time we got numbers and they only got stronger. No reason to play anything else beside a warrior, unless you get bored.

Oh look, another typical player who thinks Warrior is the best at anything.

Warriors are only useful until both Banner of Discipline and Strength are taken. After that, either pick up more reflections, or a higher damage profession.

But @OP, Warrior is the most used class for the wrong belief they are the best damage (they are not, Thief, Mesmer, Ele and even Guardian are all higher in PvE).

The titel of thread: “PVE most used class”

Which is warrior. Which is the best PVE profession. Which is why you have so many of them. Which is why I posted it.

Let’s look what a base warrior offers:

Highest HP
Highest toughness
Highest armor
Highest mobility
Highest damage
Highest condition removal
Highest weapon swap time
Highest healing without even healing

All at the same time.

It is hard to fail in PvE as a warrior.

Fixed that for you.

Check your facts before you spout nonsense.

Oh yeah, if we’re already comparing:
Ele can get higher dps giving up any other advantage.
Guard can reach higher dps but only in bursts and giving up all their toughness.
Mesmer can reach higher dps but only in 1v1 situations in PvP.
Thief can get higher dps giving up any other advantages (same as ele).

So yeah, warrior may not reach the highest dps but compared with their toughness, their healthpool, their conditioncleansing and all the other stuff, the outshine every other class by far.

Warriors use Healing signet in PvE?

That healing skill is worthless in PvE because mobs hit very hard, which is healing signet weakness.

WTF did I just read? Mobs hit hard? You mean champions? Yeah, they’re supposed to hit hard…

Guardian I’d say. They’re needed everywhere, for every content, always welcomed. There’s currently no gamemode where Guardian isn’t necessary ortop tier.

That’s true. However, you only need 1 guard for every group.

For all those that think warrior is the most popular, your wrong. That url is to a survey done by gamestatistics.fr and if you scroll down towards the bottom you can see the class percentages. The most played is guardian at 18% and tied for second place are warrior and elementalist.
edit: That link downloads a pdf of the survey.

That survey is far from representive. They’ve asked 6500 Players, which is a minority of the playerbase of GW2. So you can’t argue at all upon this survey.

I think people generally feel a little too strongly that they are right here. All of the classes are viable in PVE. The question was just which is played most, not even why.

I personally see a large mix. Generally there do seem to be more warriors, though not by a staggering percentage. As for why, I think the reason there are more warriors is simply because there are more warriors. “What class should I try? There are a lot of warriors, so they must be good. I’ll try warrior.” And the cycle just keeps going.

Warrior gives up the most advantage by far out of any class to be able to scrape out max DPS. The best a warrior can do is drop mace (sacrificing 5% damage and a bit of vuln) for warhorn or shield, and drop FGJ for a stun break or a condi cleanse at the cost of 3 stacks of might and 33% fury. Any more than that and you’re not really DPS anymore.

Moreover, if overall DPS is equal, more burst is good. The more frontloaded your damage is, the more damage you do at the beginning of the fight and the less DPS you lose if you die or something. The absolute worst case for burst DPS is that the fight drags on long enough that you lose the burst advantage, in which case you’re equal with regular sustained DPS.

The other stuff you’ve said is similarly wrong but I don’t feel like going into specifics since we all know the drill already.

Warriors have, objectively speaking, a limited set of advantages:
- Buffs don’t require much coordination. Run in, drop all banners and shouts. Useful for uncoordinated pugs and/or very short boss fights where stacking isn’t necessary/viable, i.e. Evolved Destroyer.
- High HP and armor enables you to facetank without having to dodge. Useful at very low levels of skill, but lack of active defenses in general is an overall minus once you learn how to read tells.
- Forceful Greatsword substitutes for lack of active buff stacking. Again, useful for people who don’t know how to buff themselves properly, not so much for anyone else.

Note that “Hundred Blades makes a cool-looking number” and “bad players don’t know any better” aren’t objective advantages so they’re not listed.

I agree, that time when I pugged Arah p2 and solo’d the abomination, Lupicus and most of Brie was clearly thanks to the newbie guardian.

Pfft… But with a good guardian you don’t have to solo! But please, good guardians are like a drop in the ocean…

I dunno how you play but in PvE, which we’re talking about, I’ve done every content with the standart berserker build whithout any problem. I had no problem on my guard either, but it was painfully slower.

Thats just not true. Warriors skill rotation is by far the simplest in the game. The 2 most complex would be d/f elementalist and might stacking engineer.

gs/axe rotation uses dps-cooldowns from gs and aa from axe. Now lets look at some other metas:

- guardian. same as warrior, but with 10 sec cd.
- thief. 5-1111-5-1111-5-1111…
- ranger. 111111111…
- necro. uses mostly 1 and maybe 1-2 skills on cd. Oh, and f1 flash on cd.
- staff ele. 12111-12111-121111…
- lh ele. F11111111111111F11111111111…
- mesmer. unless you need a good reflection uptime with warden: just use every phantasm on cd and then 111111111…

d/f elementalist and might stacking engineer are probably the only two rotations that are more complex then the warriors.

Apparently you’ve never played guardian, staff ele, or LH ele. Guardians rotation is more like GS, 2, 3, 5, s/f, 1,1,1,1,1,1. Thats without utilities and using aegis to block strong attacks. Staff ele is more like earth, 2, fire, 2, arc. bril., arc. wave, 1,1,1,2. LH ele has a ridiculous rotation. Fire, 2, 4, 3, earth, arc. bril., arc. wave, 4, swap to focus, 4, LH, 1…., then repeat.

You forgot to swap attunement after a certain number of LH autoattack chain (depending on builds, ofc)

For staff ele, after the initial might stacking, it is crucial to burn the target first (Fire 3) before anything else. Cast Fire 2, while on CD, Meteor Shower, swap to water during cast, when finish chanelling, cast ice bow, #4, #3, drop ice bow, swap to fire, Fire 2, blast twice, and 1, 3, 1, 1…

A good rotation will finish a champ before the second ice bow or meteor shower. And that doesn’t include Fire 4 when boss is pushed against the wall.

First, you may want to re-read what I wrote about guardians. Using greatswords dps-cooldowns, then switching back to s/f for an stronger AA-chain is the same thing the warrior does – except the warrior does it every 5 seconds.

Earth 2? Come one, you only use that once per fight, that hardly counts as a part of an rotation. And I excluded utilitys. You know, Warriors have them, too. And no, I don’t think using fgj on cooldown is easier than using arcan wave on cooldown, even if you have to hit your own firefield with it.

And LH-ele still uses 25 times LH1 per rotation, even if the mightstacking-part between your hammer-sessions is more complicated. I think a warrior has more “different buttons per second” than an LH-ele.

And thats not the point. I am not here to discuss wich class has the most buttons to press. I just think its stupid to say that warrios have the easiest rotation.

Compare Mesmer, Eles, Thieves, Enginers, and Warriors in leveling. Which class is considered easy mode? that’s right Warrior. Mesmer is known to be a painful to level, ele and thief are harder to level than heavy armor class. Engineer difficult and hard to master, compare to Warrior.

In Dungeons, which of them is more popular/needed? . That’s right Warrior, those youtube videos consist of warriors and the fact that there are more warriors in parties than any other class, proves it. Why? cuz OPee.

The reason the warrior is the most used class is because even though it may lose out to the well played ele, guardian, thief, ranger etc for pure dps, it is extremely difficult to get a dps warrior build and playstyle wrong. People look for pug warriors because it’s a safe bet. You’re far more likely to get a full zerk warrior who can auto attack with an axe or 100b for perhaps not the top dps in the game, but pretty close to it, than you are to find a well played guard/ele etc. Additionally, they are the most forgiving class due to the hp and armor. It’s basically the safest dumb dps you can get, so there are loads of them.

Anybody ever run one of those ‘meta warriors only’ parties in CM (any path even story ftm) at all? Just curious how it went because it seems like this thread is saying warriors are the best and all you need in a party…even though that’s not what the OP was about.
