Particle effect player gear
I agree with you, i always like to make my character fit into the game world in every game, so the wings backpack and the wings glider is really immersion breaking for me eventhough i have one, as for the particle you can solve it by setting the animation to low, because i never find it cool more like annoying to have particle effect around the characters, especially with the unique infusion we have now.
I agree to a certain extent, from a roleplayer’s point of view especially. However, one thing to take into account is that the playable character does a lot more fighting and goes on a lot more adventures across the magical world of Tyria than virtually all NPCs.
Canonically, we should always remember our PC is a mistwalker, in the sense that he is often seen at the Heart of the Mists, the WvW borderlands or inside fractals. Now, the Mists are a ‘proto reality’ and it can spur into existence anything and everything there was, is, and will ever be. Including silly anime wings and mini queen Jennah’s that follow you around just because she was inside your bag minutes ago.
I wish that we could turn back time abit til before all the flashy gear came out.
Some players doesn’t seem to fit in the GW world. They look like they’re from an other dimension than the NPC’s and the story characters.
Is this rly what we want?
I’ts like we’re glued inappropriately to a beautiful painting…
I can only speak for myself but it turns me off.
In general, I care about stuff like that — in films, books, etc, I’m bothered by anomalies, especially with anachronisms.
In games, where the nature of the universe is less well-defined, I take whatever I see as the reality of the gaming world. It’s my job to accept it, rather than look for things that are out-of-place.
So I’m not bothered by the bunny ears matched with black wings and a toad greatsword from SAB, because I’m “immersed” in the Tyria that’s presented to us, rather than the Tyria I would design myself. (My “Tyria” wouldn’t be caught dead with bunny ears.)

Great Point, i guess I’ll have to practice beeing “immersed” in the Tyria that’s presented to us."
Though I am of a cosmetic-minded-nature as a player. I would like to request more racialy/culturaly distinct gear, less fractal and wings backpacks, and NO more auras.

To me it makes sense that our characters have flashy glowing gear. We go places no one has been in hundreds of years, and kill things no one else can.
Seems normal to have a bunch of flashy, powerful weapons and armor that no one else has.
yeah, everyone running around with bright pink anime hair, sunglasses, wings, glowing hands etc…
it really takes from the immersion of a realistic fantasy world.
I do agree.
The way ArenaNet have created armour and back pieces these last years, and other infusions, have made people make their character’s as obnoxious as possible and it’s starting to get really annoying.
This is the price we pay for not having:
- A gear-treadmill endgame
- A store that sells power
Which would you rather have? No flashy stuff and the above, or the status quo. You cannot have both.
Yeah you can it’s called standard models or they can give a slider to reduce particle affects for either enemies and for allies.
