While I like the idea of giving content creators links to buy the game which supports them, I think it is kind of limiting as to who it targets. Given that probably 99% of people who view videos made by streamers like WoodenPotatoes, Bog Otter, or AuroraPeachy already have the game, only the 1% of viewers who either stumble upon their streams or are referred there by their friends would be able to support them by buying the game.

I think giving those creators a code which players can enter upon checkout at the gem store when purchasing their gems which does the same thing would be a good addition, as now players watching those steams who already have the game would be able to support their favorite content creators.

I know patreon does the same thing, but it gives those who don’t do patreon a chance to support their favorite content creators.

I supported my favorite Content Creator when I purchased the expansion. That’s probably where most of the sales come from nowadays. Sure, it’s a trickle now, but just like ArenaNet, it’s much bigger at release.

Still, it would be nice for the Content Creators if they had more avenues for profit.

WP has patreon for people who want to support him directly, and I think that’s a great idea – putting the power (and the money) directly in the hands of the creators. given that gem purchases are done via the in-game clint, and most people that buy gems will do so regardless of whether they watch a content creator or not, I don’t see a good reason to implement this.

having affiliate codes for the expansion is useful for the content creators as don’t forget the base game is now free, so free players might see a WP video/AP stream, and think “kitten yeah, HoT looks kittenloads of fun thanks to this content creator, let’s buy that kitten using this dude’s link”
