Party Size
Because that’s a pretty standard size for MMO partys. Dungeons are balanced around 5-person groups. sPvP is “balanced” around 5-person groups.
It probably won’t ever change unless they add some sort of raid content.
For whatever reason, 5-man parties are a staple feature of RPG’s. Most games that trace their ancestry back to D&D (ie, pretty much all non-asian RPGs) have party sizes of 4 to 6. MMOs in particular seem to be fond of 5 and multiples thereof.
Ferguson’s Crossing
In GW, party size was either 4, 6, 8 or 12 depending on where in the game you were. For GW2 they decided to use an odd number for a change.
For RP purposes, it would be wonderful to have one large group. When we are travelling through Tyria, it would be a tremendous help to be able to see where all 12-15 of us are and if lower levels are struggling to keep up.
Just a pipe dream though, as game mechanics are designed for 5 person groups.
While I understand that dungeons and whatnot are balanced for 5 people… It’s a shame you can’t have more people than that in parties say… Outside of dungeons in the field? I say this, because I’m playing GW2 with a group of 5 friends (that makes 6 of us me included), and it’s always a drag to have to consider “leaving someone out” because there can’t be more than 5 people in a party.
Of course there is the option to divide into 2 parties of 3 people… But that would make some things a bit of a hassle.
