What is a main point to join in a party in PvE if I do not get any points for my guild? I would like to do events in the party, to get points for my guild. And if I invite players in my party I do not see who is a leader of the party.

There’s no “party leader”. Those exist only in squads. In 5-man parties everyone is equal.

There are few advantages to partying in PvE.

1. you can easily see where your party members are (useful when you need to search for something, or when partying to help someone, to quickly locate that someone)

2. supposedly it helps with mob tagging (while you still need to attack mobs in order to tag them, the damage threshold you need to pass in order to qualify for reward credit is partywide).

3. taxiing. Being in party allows you to change instance to one your party member is on (or for that party member to jump to your instance)

3b. anti-dc safety. using the taxi mechanic above, helps with returning to the correct instance after a dc (or after you needed to leave the map for some reason).

4. private party chat – more useful than using whispers across several people, or having to share global map chat for messages that aren’t really meant for public or map-wide context.

So I get more xp and batter items in a party.
Instances as I understand is are servers. That is why I see in fractals and Dungeons players from other servers. And some of them are private servers, reserved only for players that are part of these states.

No you dont get more exp and better items in a party.

Map shards are just that shards of maps that any server can access.

Only World vs world vs world is diffrent were your linked servers fight other servers/linked servers.

Unsure what you mean with private servers, we dont have any of those.

If I use LFG i can join in a dungeon or fractal that is a part of a private server and have no idea what players are talking about. They do not always use an option which tell what language they speak.

Instances are not servers. Servers are what everyone joins when you create your first character. Instances are private/small party parts of the map that only exist when you go into them. They are made for any content that is done by 5 players or less. They collapse when the last player leaves.

I’m going to try and clarify some of the terminology being used in this thread, which might make it easier to understand each other.

Server: In real life this is the computer your PC connects to when you’re running the game, and where your account information is stored. In-game it’s your World – who you fight for in World vs. World.

In GW2 every server in a region (see below) is connected so they can all share data. Which means it’s possible for players on different servers to play together.

Unlike in some games players cannot create servers and there are no private servers or ones with special rules for joining (although some EU servers have tags to show their official language if it’s not English). Everyone can join any server and everyone will play together with people from all the servers in their region.

Region: North America or Europe. This is both the physical location of the server clusters (NA ones are in Texas and the EU ones are in Germany) and where players on those servers are most likely to be from, but anyone in the world can connect to any server (except China, they have their own system).

Map: These are different areas of the game world. Queensdale, Wayfarer Foothills, Lion’s Arch and The Heart of the Mists are all examples of maps.

Instance: This is a specific copy of a map. ‘Behind the scenes’ servers will create and delete instances as needed so the number for each map changes constantly. When you get that notification that the map you’re on is going to be closed and you can move to another one that’s moving you between instances. In this game there are (speaking generally) 3 kinds of instances, each used by different maps.

  • Public – Most maps are like this, everyone in the region can enter and leave them freely, either by logging into a character who was already there, using a waypoint or portal or using the LFG tool.
  • Private – Dungeons are an example of private instances. A new one will be created for each party that enters the map and the only way for other people to enter that instance is to join that party.
  • Personal – On rare occasions there are maps where every person entering will get their own copy even if they go in together. I can’t remember any definite examples but I think the Hall of Monuments works like this.

In general the term ‘instance’ is only used to refer to the last two kinds, because in most other MMOs public maps are not instanced, there is only ever 1 copy of that map per server.

Taxi: This is an unofficial term for a method used to move between different instances of public maps. You form a party with someone who is on the copy of the map you want to be on (for example a Silverwastes Map where the Breach event is about to start) and then right click their picture in the party interface and pick ‘Join in [map name]’ to move to their instance.

It works in private instances like dungeons too, but there the game will make sure to put everyone in the party into the same instance when they enter or will prompt you to move over if you were already inside when you joined the party so it’s usually not referred to as a taxi.

Map shard: This is another name for an instance.

To answer your original question parties and guilds are completely separate things and being in a party won’t benefit your guild.

Parties are necessary for some activities like dungeons and Fractals (and PvP where they’re called teams) but outside of those areas they are simply a convenient way to group up with other people.

They enable you to move to the same instance of a map if you’re in different ones, you can see where your party members are on the map which makes finding each other easier.

You also have a dedicated chat channel which only your party members can see. I find this very useful if I’m in a party with people from my guild because it means we can talk to each other without it getting mixed up with whatever other people in the guild are talking about.

As someone else said they also make tagging enemies for events easier. This won’t get you better items or more XP, but it means you need to do less damage to qualify for event rewards and things. This is useful sometimes, for example when one of the Daily Achievements is doing 5 events in a map lots of people will show up to each event, which means they finish very quickly and it can be difficult to do enough damage to get credit. If you’re in a party then damage done by the whole party counts, so even if you only get a couple of hits in each it will be enough.
