Now i see the funny side:
Seems you don’t like asian players so they wont have chance to experience the EPIC event.
Thank you.

And you make a “Level Mechanism” to keep the casual players away from FotM.
Thank you again.

My feedback:

Remove the ascended gear.

Apparently you did learn something from the failure of Friday and Saturday, as the event on Sunday was doable without any major skill lag. I actually had fun doing the event on Sunday even though I usually try to avoid zergs.

But the biggest fail: introduce an awesome dungeon-like system, fractals, but let’s not let friends play together because they happen to be on different servers! This would have been the greatest opportunity to introduce guesting.

Somebody above said that ANet wants you to play together? I strongly get the impression they only want you to play together if you accidentally chose the same server and happen to live on the same continent.

(funny fact, I was in a party with somebody from a NA server, while I am on an EU server. We could see his blue dot on our map :P)

Here’s my feedback:

Ascended Gear: I had a glimpse of what I believe to be an Endless Quiver, and it looked amazing. That was a step in the right direction for looks, but not for stats. I didn’t buy this game for a gear grind and I will quit if this continues.

Fractals of the Mist: It was amazing, I tried it once over the weekend and I had a blast.

However, like the Ascended Gear, you are dividing players into tiers – even my guild mates didn’t want to party me because I was only at level 2 for the dungeon.

What I think would improve it in the story aspect is for it to encompass memories of prominent characters – we would be delving into them, so to speak. Considering the Mists constitutes the fabrics of time and space, it’s plausible. For example:

How did Faolain fall into the Nightmare?
How was Destiny’s Edge formed?
Destiny’s Edge before they fought Kralkatorrik.
Logan’s younger years.

I know some if these situations were described in a novel but wouldn’t be great if you could create this scenes in the game? These are just a few examples but each of them have great potential to give an story aspect to Fractals of the Mists.

Lost Shores Event: The bugged NPCs were fine, at least ArenaNet openly addressed the issues. The new map was rather bland in my opinion, there wasn’t really anything worth exploring.

The one-time event was a huge blow to international players. I have work the following Monday and having to wake up at 4 a.m to partake in the event wasn’t feasible.

Balancing: I still see crazy-high damage from Warriors, their critical damage is insane. Condition Damage builds for Thieves are still horrible compared to the mainstream builds – I hope that gets balanced in the near future.

In short, there’s good and bad.

The good was somewhat decent, with several new content… but the bad has some serious repercussions that could destroy the game altogether.

OK now it’s over here’s my feedback.

Event: Day 1.
Real lag fest, I think too much in too small an area. Content was ok, didn’t do the hunt part.

Day 2.
Event chain was ok, enjoyed exploring but it felt like it ended quite suddenly. Lag was a lot better due to staggered start times, would have been nice to know when my overflow was going to start though.

Day 3.
Loved the event, lag was managable in my overflow despite 50+ people participating. Felt the first part of the encounter (ancient karka part) was too long but once it started moving it felt like we were accomplishing something. loot was good for the time investment (2.5 hours). some of us felt that the whole event was a little long though…but that was probably because it was getting late in Eastern europe.

Ascended gear.
In 2 minds about this still, I have no desire to grind out another set of gear, that’s pretty much what made me stop LOTRO, trying to stay up on the gear curve. But if it’s only really good in the Fractals then I guess I don’t need it. Don’t know all the details about the new gear level yet so can’t really judge whether it’s something I care about.

Fractals.
Did a 4 encounters so got to fractal 2. Really liked the encounters, lots of things to work out, not too difficult to start with (once you figured it out). Enjoyed the 4 encounters I’ve had so far.

Infusions.
Well I just don’t understand the need for these, it sounds to me as though it’s just a gating system which I am vehemently against in any way. But again I don’t know much more about it.
Question though: What’s the thought process behind this? It looks like it’s to make the content more challenging (which is a good thing) but then it’s directly countered by an infusion which negates the effects..so what’s the point? why not just make the original content harder…

Landmass.
Very nice to look at, new explorable areas are always appreciated, a little smaller than I expected but that’s not a problem. Only seen a couple of events on the island though and not sure if there is a longer chain, guess I’ll find out in time.

Fractal levels.
Sure fire way to segregate sections of the community, this is something else I can abide. Discrimination through gear level, this has already had a detrimental effect on the community. You need to implement some way for it to be beneficial for high fractal runner to run the low ones, otherwise you will be stuck with 2 crowds of people who don’t interact.

Summary.
All in all I like the event, I don’t like the fact that we may now get gear progression and there’s a certain amount of gating, or that now people will be required to advertise their gear and fractal level when pugging.
That said; the playable content of the update, I was very happy with. Fractals played well (F1), the live events I enjoyed for the most parts…and as always new landmass is a bonus.

8/10 for content, liked everything which is actual game play. Well Done Anet.

5/10 for new mechanics (Agony, Ascended, Infusions, Gating) This might be higher if we were told how Anet see these systems going forward, a clearer picture might help ease peoples minds.

3/10 for communication. Almost no details on the new mechanics and the reasons.

My feedback:

The event felt rushed and incredibly buggy.

Noll (the NPC) was bugged for a long time and many people were unable to complete even Part 1 (and not everyone could carry on camping hoping anything would change).

The entire thing was cryptic – it was not clear enough where you were supposed to go and what you were supposed to do (oh right, following the zerg feels smart – great design). I do not expect hand-holding, but a simple map indicator or on-screen message would help. Why no heart-style orange circles on the map?

Very bad lag and terrible performance because of overloaded servers. Many people (myself included) were booted from the servers and then unable to log back in for the final event. Many people were disconnected soon before opening the chest. Some got dc’ed because a new build was made available…

Terrible idea to let the one-time event coincide with opening up game trials.

Many people unable to run FotM because of “level 80 full exotic” elitists.

Hardly any response from the developers. Lots of post deleting, on the other hand.

Gear becoming all to important and people getting obsessed with loot (what I call the “OMG EPIX” attitude).

I don’t feel like playing the game anymore even though I had enjoyed it (even on my engineer which is, in my opinion, a deeply flawed profession). Got declined a refund because I was silly enough to have pre-purchased (your policy doesn’t allow refunds for purchases that were done +6 months ago).

I don’t feel needed as a player. And I don’t need the frustration that GW2 has become.

Lost Shores: I have never understood the need to push out content before actually fixing stuff that still needs fixing. Granted it’s to prevent boredom or some such thing, but the reality is what looks good on paper can be utterly bad when implimented.
For a level 80 area, there were several things that struck me as problematic. What entices a player to come back here in the future? For me, nothing. Not only did I find it rather impossible to move anywhere easily without a group of individuals around me (I can only imagine weaker classes having an even greater problem) because of the enemy difficulty, but there was no incentive to kill those enemies. I’ll get to the incentive part in a bit, but let’s talk about creature design first. To give these enemies the appearance of being ‘harder’ you’ve overpowered them — but it’s the same basic premise — they all pretty much have the same attacks and have the same ridiculous health pool. That means things just seem same-samey. Once you’ve encountered one, the next one is going to be the exact same thing. Attacking them becomes mindless and a rather boring effort. Now back to incentive…

To want to go kill an enemy, you need an incentive to go risk your life, so to speak, especially if they are stupidly difficult. This typically means a reward. It did not matter whether I killed an enemy solo, or whether I killed it in a group — my findings, and the consensus of my entire server was, you could kill 1000 of them, and there was no loot. Nothing. It was like a slap in the face. This particular loot dropping issue also extended outside of the event, btw. I have been playing my lvl20 character solo lately — and since the patch i’m getting nothing of value. I get stuff that goes into my collectable tab a bit more now, and that’s nice. There IS a reduction in loot, and I’m curious to see the devs respond if this is intended or a bug that rolled out when they tweaked it.

Back to the event(s): You have a real problem in explaining content to people. When it started most people had no clue what to do — at least in GW1 you provided some details in quest instructions — but in the end, it didn’t matter because most phases were broken anyway.

The final event itself: this has some merits for being creative, but this became quickly boring and the brunt of many jokes once people saw that the hundreds of monsters we were killing gave us no rewards. I did not expect to sit there for 2 1/2 hrs grinding. Enemies faded out and in. On some servers, people gave up. Melee kept getting slaughtered, and those that went long range really don’t do as much damage as those that melee (especially bad if that’s a key to the loot table). On other servers I know the lag was bad, and people gave up or got booted out. With about 40 minutes to go, it booted me out. All my efforts wasted — what did I just waste so many hours of life for, with no reward, and hoping that the chest at the end would offer some comfort? After 15mins I was able to log back in — but now I was placed on a different overflow, could not rejoin my party on the original district I had been in, and I’m guessing all that 2hrs of hard work of damaging things (loot table again, you know) had now all been reset to nothing. This led of course to people getting much better items (precursors) than others, but the other problem sort of persisted — I got nothing of value to my class. And for those that got locked out? I feel for you, it’s a terrible thing to happen, since it almost became the same for me. Seeing that people got precursors, should of been the biggest clue that you were going to have pushback, beyond the new ‘ascended gear’. I don’t really understand the ‘gap between legendary and exotics’, and I wasn’t aware there ever was one, but you guys must know it looks kind of bad to say one thing and then do another. I also don’t know if the chest reward at the end of that event was actually worth it yet. It seems it was worth it to some people (an item worth 200G in one hand and 150G in another)…vs some that got a few things worth 5S yeah… do the math? Was it worth it?

As for class balancing: you still have major problems. The ranger class needs to not be an afterthought — and that’s the impression you get when looking at their skills.

And the last let down for me? You still haven’t got the guesting system in order. I’ve yet to be able to play with what little friends I have left playing because they all gave up and moved onto other games. The time kind of ran out for fixing things and implimenting things that were promised here. If friends can’t play together, then they are less likely to play at all. I refered friends this weekend, and I’m pretty sure they will not be purchasing this game in the future.

I was extremely disappointed in the entire event.

My expectations were realistic, as I have been through large events in several other MMO’s and I have seen plenty of barely-playable lag-fests before, but this was just a total waste of time.

On Friday I was there with the rest of the large guild I am in, everybody excited and waiting for the big kick-off. When the boat sank and the event kicked off I thought ‘ok this is going to be great.’

Then, half an hour of lag, confusion and very little enjoyment. Well I’ve seen these things before, and it was still interesting, I’ll reserve judgement.

Next, ok well i’ll do some of the event quests. I head off to Kessex Hills to be met by a storm of map chat telling me the npc was bugged. Ok, well, that’s kinda disappointing.

Next day I start a different quest and this time arrive in Celadon forest to hear that another NPC is bugged. Ok…now I am getting a bit fed up.

Sadly I am out Saturday evening so nothing I can do for that event.

Fast forward to last night, and once again, an unplayable lag-fest, but this time with added invisible insta-death. Even less fun than Friday. I realise I’m wasting my time and quit out and go back to levelling another character in the normal zones.

The final reward, watching various guildies post how they now have 20-slot bags and account-bound mega-trinkets for persisting with this nonsense.

Between the barely-playable and frustrating events, the bugged quests (IMHO this particularly is completely inexcusable) and the fantastic rewards for the few who through luck or persistence managed to endure the whole event, this was a massive, massive disappointment, and really not what I would expect from a company that has had the opportunity to learn from the history of these kind of events in the MMO field.

I should add, although I thought the event was very poor, the Fractals dungeons are excellent. With guildies doing a run and voice chat to help, they were still hard, but more importantly they were fun, interesting and rewarding.

I’m far from convinced about the Fractal level stuff and how it will affect dungeon-running and group-finding in the long-term, but the actual dungeons themselves were really good.

A dissaster. The game’s going in a direction that will more then likely make me and my mates quit.
One thing we all agreed upon is that we will never ever spend any more cash on this game be that the gemshop or future expansions.
Another one for our personal blacklist, EA, Funcom, NCsoft, Mythic/Bioware.

Event was one big lagfest, patch was a flop, no proper class balancing, no forum communication etc. etc. Just one big mess.

We focus on WvW and now we’re forced to grind our butts off to stay competitive in the near future. What a waste… Shame on you Anet.

In case it matters to anyone:

LA events: Incredibly laggy. Didn’t have any fun, except the mocking jokes made in map chat (i.e., a powerpoint slideshow was more dynamic than the game at that point)

Scavenger hunt events: Two or three NPCs were bugged. I had to dig out information about these problems in various forum posts. Needless to say it was not fun going through with them. (I skipped phase 2 for that reason)

The final one-time event: I couldn’t participate. I can’t comment on that one. I’m not envious on others getting very good rewards. Glad for them (but then again, I don’t care that much for gear).

The fractal dungeon:
- The mini-dungeons are fun and interesting. Well done on them (except, the swamp which was very annoying every time I did it).
- Having so many difficulty scaling levels is not good. Not good at all. It made it a lot harder to get groups going.

The new items introduced in the mystic forge: Like other items before this, I don’t get the whole secrecy behind ‘discovering’ the recipe combinations. Some are available on external resources, but I’d be more content with them being available in-game (either a help menu, or a recipe list at the mystic forge). However, I have yet to make a high-end item in the forge because I probably lack 90% of the mats needed.

Ascended gear, a new item tier: Absolutely a terrible idea. It has the opposite effect on me, it discourages me to play the game. I am not interested in a stats inflation chase. This is a huge deciding factor if I’m going to spend any more time on this game. At this point I plan on leveling up alts and playing the story paths I missed, but once I reach the gear-wall I will quit. Simple as that. There’s no ‘easing’ into this.

Southsun Cove island:
- Very nice design. Congratulations.
- Nice jumping puzzles (the reward for me is the achievement). Congratulations.
- Smaller mobs are likely not balanced for all classes . On my guardian I throw up ‘wall of reflection’ on the karka ranged attack and let them chip away half their health in one move while I take zero damage, then I proceed to finish them off with skills 4-2-3 on the greatsword. Rinse and repeat. Don’t ever aggro more than 2 or 3. The bigger karka, I avoid them if solo, I contribute if in a group.
- Other remarks, I hope more dynamic events are introduced in this new zone.

Communication about the event/patch: A poor showing from Anet. The silence is deafening.

OVERALL FEEDBACK: This patch introduced some neat elements (dungeon design, nice island and harder mobs) but was also a big letdown (bugs, lag, new armor tier, content gating).
The effect it had on me was going from being very enticed and excited about the future of the game to a ‘wait-and-see’ stance. It is a feeling that is hard to describe, but it is close to apathy towards what this game is trying to become (yes, I’m taking about stats inflation, gating the content with gear grind because they are a big deal and they overshadow the good parts).

As a consequence I play less.

We’ll see what the future holds ‘under new management’.

Ascended is awful. Never do this again. In the meantime, better crank out a means to get ascended from all avenues (pvp, wvw, crafting, karma) as exotics are.

The actual event was a fun experience, though.

Fractals is a terrific dungeon, if only it didn’t feature gear gating and treadmills.

The holiday events or what ever its called the halloween and sorrow coast events are any thing but user freindly. You get some vague response from an npc as where to go, you spend most your time running around searching aimlessly. Only way I fisnished phase 1 was to get on the guild wars wiki, after phase one I just gave up.

Could you consider a quest tab, or log at least for these events.

Allright let’s do this.
My feedback:

Once in a lifetime event(s):
Let us hope they stay that. Stage one was a server sided lagfeast in Lions Arch followed by a on several NPCs bugged scavenger hunt. Though found it positive to get Lionguard weapon skins without humongous amounts karma.
Stage two had problems in communication, the building of the trebuchet was never announced ingame and the break untill the ship was sailing was also misleading. On the island then the eventchain was very entertaining.
Stage three had the famous problem of culling, being rolled over by invisible veteran mobs and essentially twoshot in power toughness vit gear, yeah no. Another downside the amount of karka to defeat twice during part of pushing the ancient. Finally the rewardchest. Kitten(<- self censored) this. People pulling out Dawn, Dusk, the Lover and other 100g+ weapons while I get about 3g worth. Felt like a baseball to the groin.

Dungeon(s):
No update to the LFG “tool” was a very bad move. Make it worldwide / serverwide and allow to set comments for which dungeon and difficulty. With FotM and it’s scaling reward system most of the “old” dungeons have been killed of. Try to get a pug group to get through the whole of SE storymode.
FotM only partially unpuggable. Swamp and the dredge one with the pressure plates to be precisely. Don’t get me wrong, I like a bit of challenge but I also like it to be clear how to overcome them. This is a issue with the “daily reward chest” You get rather easy through 2 fractals, you get swamp and you know you have just wasted about 30 min because some impatient pug will leave and that’s that.

Ascended Gear:
Oh boy. I bought this game for a simple reason. A easy to reach stat plateau that will not be increased. And here we are 75 days later.
A new higher tier of stats, requiring a hillarious grind to get that will lead to content block (agony resistance requirements). And if that is not enough that gear can get infusions. For all those that do not know it the infusion has nothing to do with agony resistance. That is applied seperate (250 ectos and more, wiki it). No the infusion is a further stat increase.
Bait and turn with the bait being several years of PR, advertising and blogs stating this will not happen.

General Balance:
Here is a hint. The mosquito esque damage of cloak and dagger was not the reason so many people have been complaining.
Otherwise I can’t say much regarding this. Weren’t rangers supposed to get a bit of update this patch? Maybe a bit much retalation / Protection uptime on certain classes.

Art:
Great work art team. Nothing more to say just enjoying the looks.

Gem Shop additons:
Meh, couldn’t care less. Give me a way to unlock certain dyes / minis and we can talk. Also more cosmetic armor like the primeval. RNG for solid money won’t make me spend a dime.

Legendary pre-weapons:
Just because this tickles me. We were told before the patch there will be a way to aquire them “more of a scavenger hunt” yet zommoros was convinced to increase his close to non existent chance to grant one of those to a little less than non existent.

In short:
Get yourself better communication. Make big events less of a server crush. And most of all reduce the stats of ascended gear to exotic level while turning infusions (the item slapped into the slot) to various levels of agony resistance.

A customer (maybe not to long to stay this way).

P.S.: hey look, more feedback on a specific topic of this patch

Well I’ve read a few pages of comments. I have not participated in the new stuff, nor have I even considered getting the new gear. I’ve been playing since beta and I still don’t have an 80 character either. I’m a bit slow at leveling.
But what I want more than anything is for Some Person from Anet to please give us a response. Just talk to us, guys. We have told you what we think. Tell us what you think. Why did you make these changes? Were your intentions pure or are you changing the game forever? Just tell us, so we can decide what we want to do. You’ll know. We’ll tell you if we don’t want that, and you can rearrange what your plans are. Or keep going. I mean, if you’re trying to commit suicide, we can all help that along.
Let me just give y’all this. The guys you are trying so desperately to keep, the crWoWd, the gear grinders, the infinite grind lovers… They will Never love your game. Because it isn’t WoW. It isn’t it shouldn’t and it really can’t be WoW. So stop trying. Let them go. It’s okay, Anet. We’ll hold you close, and make you some tea and you can cry, but you don’t need them. You have to give them up.
The first game was one of the biggest gaming successes for an ongoing community ever. Do what you did then. Be cool, make more pvp game types, and fix your game while pushing out More Content, not more long winded goals.
And also, in the future, get rid of those conversation set pieces. They are boring. You want to tell me something story related? Try not to interrupt the action to do it.
I love you guys, but stop breaking your own game.

The event was quite mediocre but I guess it can’t be helped when you’re adding so much permanent content. FotM is an amazing dungeon and I’m thrilled that it’s here to stay.

The new area is very lacking and I hope you flesh it out in a big way. As it is now I don’t see any reason to run around there.

One thing really bothered me. The final event was only during a small window that many players couldn’t make it to. The concept was neat but I think the window should be larger so more of your playerbase can enjoy the content you’ve made.

(Part One of Five)

I really want to leave my feedback about this patch for someone at Anet to read. I’d like to think that it’ll help future content updates be better. I’m going to leave it here because this seems to be the official thread. Hopefully, it doesn’t simply get lost in the 16 pages of other player feedback (some of which I thought was very good.)

The Weekend Events

I can tell that the concept of this big one time event to open up the island was very cool. Unfortunately, I think you guys fell a little flat on the implementation.

The story behind what was going on was a little hard to grasp. I was able to pick up the general idea easily but the details were hard to figure out. This is the first time I’ve felt this way about any of the lore/story in GW2. I hear people complain frequently that this game doesn’t have enough lore or that the lore is too hard to find and I can never figure out what they’re talking about. I’m the type of person who talk to every npc, goes through every dialogue choice, and listens to all the npc conversations around me. Even though I did all of that this weekend I still felt a little lost at times.

I suppose I don’t really have to bring up the fact that everything was so buggy. I’m sure everyone Anet realizes that this was terrible and has no plans of ever releasing content like that again. However, I was genuinely confused about the appearance of many of these bugs because they seemed a lot like bugs we’ve had before in the live game. Inspector Noll became perma-dead because people were able to actually kill him before he turned green again. Well, we’ve had plenty of skill point challenges with that exact problem. A lot of the dynamic events got stuck or broke in ways that I’ve seen plenty of other DEs stuck or broken throughout the world in the live game. It seemed to me like many of these bugs should have been anticipated, but I’m going to assume that it’s not that simple.

The events that kicked off the phases of the weekend event chain felt bad.
When the karka first invaded Lion’s Arch why did they only invade that one small area? It seemed a bit strange and not like an invasion at all. I think a greater sense of urgency would have been created if the karka had been appearing on all of the beaches of Lion’s Arch. This would have also spread players out more which may have helped with some of the lag and culling issues. I also felt like this first event should have kept repeating on a timer (maybe one hour.) The next event was called retaking Lion’s Arch but really Lion’s Arch was never taken. The karka showed up once, we smacked them around, they left. The short cut-scene with the Ancient Karka destroying the lighthouse should have only been played once, but everything else could have easily repeated. Then people would have had more opportunities to participate and it would have felt more like a real invasion. (The karka were trying to take Lion’s Arch again and again.)

The second event was baffling because I honestly had no idea where it was going to take place. I missed out on some npc dialogue (though I had my bf read it to me) because I had no idea where I was supposed to go. This could have easily been solved by putting one of those nice stars over the head of the important npcs so that players could have seen them walking around and run over to them. This event also suffered from the same issue as the first. Clearly we were supposed to be driving the karka out of Lion’s Arch, but they were never really in Lion’s Arch in the first place. This event should have taken place all around the city. It would have been nice if this event had repeated on a timer too. (I can honestly think of no reason for it not to have.) I also didn’t quite get why we had to wait for the npcs to create the catapult. Did they use it? I never saw them use it.

(Part Two of Five)

Weekend Events Cont.

The event chain that occurred when we got to the island was less than epic. It would have been nicer if there had been multiple chains occurring to split the player base up (once again helping with the culling and lag issues) and when I saw that we could chose between ports that’s what I thought would happen. Instead when we got there I realized that my port choice was entirely irrelevant. (Why even chose then? Pretty pointless.) These events immediately began to feel tedious and pointless. I couldn’t see mobs loading in and so would frequently die from things I couldn’t possibly avoid. My participation felt unimportant with so many other players there. I could have afked for a coffee and everything would have turned out fine. I like big events but I also like to feel like my participation in the event matters. I want to believe that without my character it would have been harder to invade that island. I almost feel like it would have been easier… without my character and a few others maybe the culling would have been better for everyone else. I racked up repair bills and felt like I was accomplishing nothing.

Eventually my bf and I actually left the event because we decided it would be better to just explore on our own then to continue. This event would have been much improved if it had spread the player base out around the island more. The island is actually pretty big and it feels like almost none of it was used during this initial event. I was hoping for several events that would be reoccurring during this phase that would have to do with settling/ clearing this island. Instead what we got was one giant zerg fest that pushed inward. I was also disappointed with how little effect the event had on the world. We cut down trees for roads but then there were no roads… there weren’t even paths.

The BIG FINALE suffered from amplified versions of all of the above problems. For starters this event was telegraphed very poorly. We had no idea what area of the island it would start from. That little mail was nice but when we got it the event was already starting. Next time send the mail before the event starts so that people actually have time to read it and then get to the appropriate area. I’m sure I missed out on some npc dialogue there as well, but who knows. I found the entire idea behind this event to be really confusing. Why did we plant explosives in the hive? The hive didn’t blow up… Were we just planning on using them on the Ancient Karka from the start? What did we use that giant laser for? Why didn’t we use that on the Ancient Karka? Why did the Ancient Karka suddenly appear all the way at the front of the island? Why didn’t we see the Ancient Karka at all during the second phase? It would have been cool if the Ancient Karka was roaming around the island Fell Reaver style (WoW – Hellfire Peninsula) making himself known as a big bad we definitely wanted to kill. What was that weird air thing that briefly blocked the Ancient Karkas progress during one of the reinforcement phases? Why did the bottom of the hive collapse at the end?

The event itself was plagued with culling issues and lag. I felt even more impotent during this event than I did while we were clearing the island. “Why am I even here?” I kept asking myself. It seemed like I wasn’t even getting credit for killing any mobs most of the time. I died over and over again to unseen enemies. I rezzed unseen allies. I’m sure that the entire thing would have gone just as well without my character. That’s not good. I want to feel like my character is making some sort of impact when I play a video game.

The stages where we had to do something interesting to get the Ancient Karka to move back (blow up steam vents and toss boulders into them) were actually very fun. I’m glad I stayed to see those. The event needed more stuff like this and less like the two reinforcement phases. Those phases just seemed to go on forever. It felt like we weren’t making a dent and everyone was just dying over and over again. If we had been an actual army I’m sure we would have just waved the white flag due to low moral. Everyone was saying negative things by this point.

I think part of the issue with this entire event was the timing. Upon reflection having only a weekend for this event feels too short. I feel like too much story was being crammed into a small time period. You could have done much more with it, expanded some on the actual story line and had more events that repeated so that more people could experience the content, if this had been a week long like Halloween. It felt very rushed.

Overall this event was rather disappointing. The Halloween stuff was so amazing that I was sure this event would be even better. Now I’m thinking that the team that created this event should probably go confer with the holiday event team. They have some lessons to learn.

Event Rewards

Ok, so yes it was really cool to open up that chest and see all the pretty exotics, the 20 slot bag, and the unique trinket. I see a lot of people now who are saying the event was great and totally worth it because of those rewards… Really? It was great because of the rewards? I don’t design games but if I did this is not what I would want my players thinking. The event should have been worth it for the event… You guys shouldn’t have to bribe us with exotics and the possibility of a legendary precursor.

In reality, these rewards were incredibly unfair and unbalanced. Those who did not get to participate, or were disconnected, or who had to leave before the end for work, were denied rewards that could have made them a good chunk of cash. It also made every part of the event up until the last 20 or so minutes of the finale feel worthless. The rewards should have been spread out better. Players should have been rewarded more for participating in the other parts of the weekend long event. I’m talking about rewards that are just as good, but evened out instead of all lumped into one big end chest that not everyone can access. You could have also made the finale shorter and just had it reoccur on a timer throughout the day on Sunday (possibly into Monday).

Southsun Cove

This island is very beautiful. I was very impressed with everything about it. I loved the new jumping puzzles, the new ranger pet, and the entire environment. I hope that now this weekend event is over more dynamic events will continue to be added to flesh out the island. It would also be nice if more areas on the island are used. Right now there are a couple areas in which nothing is going on.

Gem Shop Goodies

Everyone complained so much about only being able to obtain the weapon skins from a lotto chest on Halloween that you guys decided that the best thing to do would be to make it so that everything event related could only be obtained through a lotto chest.

I feel bad now because when the weapon skins were out for Halloween I didn’t understand what everyone was complaining about. Surely, it was obvious that the chests were a gamble? Why were so many people complaining that they had wasted their money with no reward? Well, I’m a mini collector. I have been in every MMO I’ve played that has minis. I looked into getting the minis for this patch and soon realized that only a measly 10 chests would cost around $20 and it would be very unlikely that I’d get even one mini pet to drop for me. This is ridiculous. It’s a money grabbing scheme that makes no sense. I bought no gems because I don’t like paying for nothing. Just put items up on the shop for people to buy individually. When you put out new content with neat, limited time, skins and minis associated with it you need to just put those up on the shop for sale. I should be able to look at the gem store and see the new mini pack available for a similar price as the Halloween one and the shoulder/ breather/ weapon/ whatever else skins available for a similar price as the armor skins that are already up there. I understand that you feel you can make more money by putting things in a random chance chest, but you need to stop thinking of what makes more money and start thinking about what is fair to your consumer. These chests are clearly anti-consumer and I will not be buying gems until you start operating the gem store more fairly.

Fractals of the Mists

This dungeon is so much fun! It is well designed in so many ways. A lot of the fractals are beautiful to look at. The story seems compelling. The boss mechanics are fun and creative. I actually feel like I need to coordinate well with my team. The only one I have complaints about is the whisp/swamp one which seems a little too based on rng.

However, there are potential problems with this dungeon. As time goes on it is going to be harder and harder for people to find groups for lower level fractals. This will be extremely off putting to new player and aggravating to those who are trying to play alts. I’m not sure how you can really fix this issue. I think that it will always be a problem and that the only thing you can hope to do is to put a band-aid on it.

(Part Four of Five)

Fractal of the Mists Cont.

So what’s the band-aid? A dungeon finder. This new dungeon also makes it even more painfully obvious that the current lfg system is a mess. Whenever you go into Lion’s Arch now the only thing you can see is people spamming for chat LFG and LFM. I’m not sure why the developers think the current lfg is sufficient, but it’s not. Something needs to be done. Ideally, A cross server lfg system (similar to WoWs) would be put in place. Originally I wasn’t even in support of this idea. I wanted just a server wide listing system. In that system a player (or group) could list themselves under a certain dungeon and then could put something in the comment section (i.e. lf fractal lvl 5). However, at this point I think that the population on servers is now going to be too spread out to support this. We need a system that will make it easier to find groups for all of the dungeons and their levels/ modes (and the older ones are already being run less frequently). Currently, it might be possible that only two people on your entire server want to run CM story mode. This is why the new lfg must span all servers. I now support it being similar to WoWs dungeon finder because with the lfg spanning all servers it’s going to be difficult for people to search through the long lists that this may create for some dungeons. This could potentially decrease the feeling of server communities and it could potentially decrease some player communication, but I honestly feel it is our best option now.

Ascended Gear

I’ve got no pros for you on this category. Ascended gear was a terrible idea that I feel was not entirely thought through. It seems rushed and poorly implemented. I understand that you wanted a type of progression specific to your new fractal dungeon. I understand the whole agony resistance thing and it’s not really that bad of an idea. It would have definitely given us a sense of progression to get a new gear set with a resistance to help us stay alive in the fractals. The problem is the stats. I bought a game that was advertised to have no vertical progression or gear grind. This game now has vertical progression and gear grind. You should have just released an armor set with the same stats as exotics and an additional slot for an (non-stated) agony resistance infusion. Because you didn’t there is now the beginning of a gear treadmill and that isn’t even the worst part about these items.

Why are these items so material/ cost/ grind intensive to get? I’ve looked at estimates that predict we need at least 50 runs of the new fractals dungeons to make one… and that’s not even including the cost of the stack of t6 mats. That’s actually worse than the progression endgame centered MMOs I’ve played. Right now if I renewed my sub to WoW I could be level 90 and in full epics in a little over a month. They’ve added all sorts of things (i.e. raid finder) to help players get geared up quickly in that game. WoW is actually trying to reduce some of their gear grind… and now GW2 is trying to increase theirs. (Mind blowing?) It’s going to take me a long time to get these items on my main (if I even try) never mind getting them on an alt. In WoW I could easily gear my main character and then start working on an alt before the next content patch….

I remember reading that these new items were supposed to help alleviate the “legendary wall.” They have not done that. All they have done is create an “ascended wall,” in addition to the “legendary wall.” Now, instead of gearing up in full exotics and then deciding which legendary you want to work toward a player must start working toward ascended items first. The real kick in the teeth is that, unlike exotic items, a player can not work on ascended gear and a legendary at the same time. The ascended gear requires many of the same materials that legendaries do. This means that once you’ve finished working on your ascended gear you’re basically right back in square one, with no mats or progress made toward a legendary. That sounds a lot like a wall to me.

(Part Five of Five)

Ascended Gear Cont.

What can be done to fix this mess?

Ideally- Flatten the stats. Ascended items are now the same as exotics, but with an additional slot for the (non-stated) infusions. Also, decrease the cost to make them. They shouldn’t be as time consuming and expensive as a legendary.

Less Ideal- Leave in the Ascended rings and back pieces, and maybe add accessories. Don’t add in any more. Ascended items are now specific only to those slots. This is how you must get your agony resist. They can still have inflated stats but the effect is mitigated because it’s not an entire set of armor. You still may want to decrease the cost a little bit, but it’s less important because the players won’t eventually be working toward an entire set of new armor.

What has to happen?

Even if this new Ascended armor stays and is implemented exactly as is currently planned (adding more and more armor pieces each patch) this HAS to be the last tier of gear. I’m worried that no one at Anet is willing to comment on whether or not they plan on implementing more tiers of gear after this. If there are more tiers then the entire manifesto (the ideas that sold me on the game) may as well be scrapped. These recent changes have upset me and my bf. We do not plan on asking for a refund because we still enjoy the game world and we believe we have gotten our moneys worth already, but we do not plan on supporting this company any more with gem store purchases or through the purchase of any planned future expansion packs unless something is fixed. We will reconsider this decision if we see that any of my above fixes are implemented, or if we see an official statement promising no more gear tiers. We will also not be buying any random chance chests from the gem store. If you want our patronage you need to make actual THINGS available not just the promise of a chance at a thing.

Right, why does any of the stats have to be higher? Just add a way to infuse current gear, simple! What’s the matter, content not good enough to have people enjoy it without dangling the new carrot in front of them to make them go forward and use the new system?

Ok, mi first feedback was infracted, and i take a suspesion… now im chilled, still angry, but chilled, so i can give a rationate feedback.

  • First 2 days of event skipped, too angry to do them. so i can say nothing. vote: x/x
  • Last day of event well, the megaboss was fine and challeging, but too much lag and invisible players. vote: 5/10
  • Southsun cove its good, i love that island, finally a lvl 80 area without risen and without ice. but to much blur effect (like timberline falls). vote 8/10
  • fractal dungeon good and funny idea, i bit buggy, but is the best dungeon in the game. vote 7/10
  • ascended tier, and RNG loots worst idea for a game like this. the megathred is plenty of posts with the same idea as me. vote 1/10
  • general bugfix too much hype for this bugfix patch, and no real fix or player feedback used. vote 4/10

I’m going to omit my feedback on the decision to include the “gear treadmill” as that horse has already been beaten senselessly since it’s death on the 12th. However, I do want to address one point in the patch.

The amount of loot that drops for downscaled players has been increased. You should now be able to receive level-equivalent loot until you are fighting at a downscaled level that is less than 2/3 of your actual level. You should also receive loot a greater percentage of the time as well as receiving a greater percentage of experience, gold, and karma. For level 80 characters, this means level 55+ areas will be able to drop level 80 gear and give about 75% or so of the other rewards. Previously, these areas would give level 77 gear at best and closer to 60% or so of your rewards.

In my opinion, this is a good start, but it’s not enough to get people out of the endgame zones and out experiencing content in the rest of the world. Please extend this change to all zones for full rewards. If the point is to get people out playing with each other regardless of level, this is the way to do it. Even post-patch, I feel obligated to stay in areas 55+ as I get substandard rewards for delving any lower than that.

If level scaling is the issue here, may I suggest that downscaling counter the statistical bonuses given by the trait lines only?

If a new tier of gear is introduced after ascended (promises or no promises) the bf and I will be quitting for good. I know it’s not as impact-full as it would be to quit a sub game… but yeah.

If ArenaNet is willing to do this big of a change(progression), what’s to stop it from adding more content then locking in people to the released product(basic) for free and then charging a fee for more?

See, this is the problem I have with ArenaNet being able to step over a line they said they’d not step over, you just don’t know what other lines they’ll cross. Even if they only retain 500k people, that’s 7.5 million dollars a month they could get by just “changing” their thoughts on free to play. Not entirely bad but it will split up the player base just like this gear progression will do.

I’m happy with the new gear, Anet, thanks for the best MMO, and thanks for making sure you maintain long term players by adding new content and gear, so our characters can continue grow past 80, thanks for not making this an arcade game.

I will be playing for years, as long as you keep it fresh and provide constant growth.

A step in the right direction for sure.

Grow past 80? They can continue making new and exciting content. They can add new visuals to the game, they don’t need to put in new higher stat gear that makes everything else obsolete.

Why would a big portion of the player base go back and play some of the "fun"content all over the map when it doesn’t drop the right “new stats”. They basically overnight went and made 90% of their content undesirable to go do once you hit max level. What happens when you max out with your “new stats” do you log out and wait for the next patch to give you “new stuff”?

I think a certain portion of the player base will like what they did, they did a good job overall, but it goes against what they said they would do all those years developing this great game.

So the belief is, if you don’t get an extra +5 power on gear people won’t do the content? +5 isn’t that big of a deal, it is when it’s done over and over till it’s now +50 from the original number.

Love the game but once you step over one line, stepping over more lines aren’t nearly as tough. Maybe this won’t be a big thing for Guild Wars 2 or possibly it will be, the only way they’ll really know is with the cash flow in the gem store.

Positives
*New dungeon that is fun and rewarding (but there is a con as well)
*New continent
*New gear and weapon looks
*Events would have been good without the lag

Cons
*New dungeon is being used to get armor that is stronger than Exotics (which was supposed to be the top tier stats gear). This constitutes what you said you didn’t make. Gear treadmill

*The events had high latency and bugs. In Phase 1, most of the enemies were invisible and, when seen, the attacks took quite a while to go off. Phase 2 skipped the treb building on my server and the ship just suddenly appeared. Phase 3, I went through 5 overflows after disconnecting. I was one of the lucky ones to actually do the event and not be disconnected.

*Not only am I against the new gear “progression”, but, also, the new gear has also produced a new mindset in players. The gating is not very severe right now, but what about those who wish to by this great game later? Some players want “gear checks”, and this is a horrible mindset. Why should players be reduced to just numbers instead of having skill? Skill should matter more than the armor you wear.

*Did I mention the part where it seems that this patch has made many players think that you are going back on your word and implementing the gear treadmill that you promised would not be in the predecessor of the game that didn’t have such a thing? That the only gear grind was for looks and not stats.

Well, if they do go down that road then we will not be paying/playing.

Let’s be honest here folks, this game is buggy and they’re not fixing it. If this was a sub MMO I would have quit already. I find the game world captivating and the combat engaging but that’s not enough to keep me subbed to something. People are still having issues with the camera and the FOV. The game annoyingly selects new targets for me when I’m using my right mouse button to control the camera. My pets (ranger) like to stare off into space for no reason half the time (this game has the worst pet control options for a pet class of any MMO I’ve played so far). The culling issue is terrible. I still see broken events frequently. I’ve sent in tons of bug reports for the dialogue in my personal story because it frequently has typo’s or refers to things that my character never did (I guess they’re part of the other branches). The other day my camera got stuck on a catapult while I was doing personal story. I’d had to use the catapult as part of the story (risen attacking vigil headquarters for anyone who’s done it) and after I exited my camera was just stuck… I could move my character still and use spells. I could watch her running around from afar. I was able to complete the story step because I had my bf with me directing me (“Make her move forward some more, now to the right, Ok, the npc you need to talk to is right in front of you”), but if he hadn’t been I would have had to start the whole thing over.

There are also numerous quality of life improvements that need to be added for this game to be sub worthy such as; LFG, a build Saver (a full blown multi-spec tool, preferably), More storage space (yes, I have already maxed out my bank space and use alts as mules… it’s annoying), a better way to save my favorite item skins (I saw a wonderful post about that on the forums a little bit back), more crafting materials in the collectibles pane (what’s up with the new stuff not being in there?), a better way to store/ use minis, a better way to store the many different types of currency (why isn’t there just a currency tab in our hero pane that everything goes into?), player to player trading (every once in a while my things get lost in the mail), a more customizable UI would be nice, and I’m sure that’s not even all.

What really gets me is that I remember seeing them state that they are not working on any more features (which would be those quality of life things I just pointed out) and are instead focusing on developing new content. Fix your game first. Get it up to par with the sub based MMOs I’ve played and then add new content. I’m worried they are so content focused right now that they’re going to ignore the core issues with their game.

Sorry, that’s a bit off topic. Your comment just made me think of it. I know it’s not really feedback about this patch… but this patch has brought these concerns to mind too.

So for those that quit and came back for gear progression (both of you), and those that would quit if there was not gear progression… how long this ascended/infusion thing going to last you? If/when you get full ascended, are you going to be expecting a new tier? If not, are you planning on continuing to play at that point?

Just wondering what a magical tier or two really does to quench the thirst of progression addicts.

I’m glad this thread is here so let me give you the general feedback I’ve been hearing from my guild. Where the feedback is just mine alone I will note that. I’m an officer of a 500 person guild on Ehmry Bay.

In general the feedback on the patch and Lost Shores has been:
1) Regular new content is cool and the progressing story captured the interest of alot of our players.
2) The scavenger hunt was interesting and we’d like to see more of that. The Halloween scavenger hunt for the book backpiece was a big hit btw.
3) Having some of the NPC’s get “broken” where the become non-responsive was frustrating and many of our players never finished it due to the issues with the Lagos underwater guy and his chest being bugged for most of the event.

-Suggestion on that: Bugged NPC’s/Dynamic Events are frustrating if there was a way for you guys to “push the reset” on a particular NPC or event causing it to go back to a default or start state without requiring a restart of the whole server that would be awesome.

4) The lag in the battle with the Ancient Karka for whatever reason was mainly bad only when we were around the geyser wall in the middle of the zone. Once we were past that the lag went away for the most part.
5) The new zone is interesting and we’d like to see more reasons to go back to it so it doesn’t just become another zone.
6) The Fractals of the Mists Dungeons are awesome!! I can’t express how much people love these things please consider adding more of them. The increase in difficulty as you go up with higher challenge higher rewards is very cool.
7) There is a bit of an issue with people getting disconnected in Fractals not sure what it is but it kinda screws up the group because you can’t bring that person back in once they get disconnected in order to continue. If there is some way to allow them to re-enter if they get disconnected inside without having to start over that would be great. We had this happen twice on our 3rd fractal of a series causing us to have to start over because someone was disconnected on the transition between the 2nd and 3rd fractal.
8) Lastly, kudos on jumping on the disconnection at the video after killing the Ancient Karka issue we had at least 5-6 guildies who had this happen to them and the chest vanished before they could get logged back in.

The Good:

-New Zone- A level 80 zone for mat farming and general exploration that is different from Orr and the top bit of Frostgorge.

-New Dungeon- Most of the Fractals are enjoyable, though some (see below) need some work in my view.

-New Gear Skins- Variety of appearance is always a good thing.

-Adjusted Drops- More reason to run more content for worthwhile rewards, also always a good thing.

The Bad:

-Fake Difficulty- Some patches of the Fractals suffer from fake difficulty issues, where a player simply has to die, often several times, to even have a chance to determine a viable strategy. Not sure why anyone thinks dying is ever fun, I just know I do not.

-Bugs, Bugs, more Bugs- The Fractals often have death and sometimes movement bugs.

The death bugs seem to involve corpses not appearing where they ought to (Cliffside and Uncategorized are well known for this, though it seems any mechanic that requires the player’s downed body to appear someplace other than where it gets downed can cause this.) Mix that with the inability to return to the dungeon unless everyone dies and it can be painful.

The movement bugs I have seen seem random, where a player will not be able to move at all, though they will be able to cast normally. This sometimes goes away on its own, sometimes it can be shaken by some sort of interaction or transformation effect, and sometimes it requires a relog (running into the rejoin issue mentioned above.)

The Ugly:

-Content Gating- “LF2M FotM Lvl16+” …the elitism has begun. It will only get worse as most folks start really getting hit by Agony and requiring Infusions. Very counter to the way everything up until now in the game has been more or less all inclusive.

-Gear Grind- Now perhaps higher level Fractals give amazingly more token, but to grind out -just- a back piece at lower difficulties takes well over 100 Fractals (around 34 full runs, give or take.) Not sure who could see that as anything other than a grind (since yes, the dungeons can be fun, but nothing is fun once you’ve run it -that- far into the ground, at least in my experience.)

-One-time Events- Having been around for a few of these now, I fail to see an up-side. Lag-fest zergs of chaos for those who can attend, and nothing but disappointment for those who miss out because they prefer to schedule their gaming around their life and not vice versa. As above, so much of this game seems designed to foster being inclusive, helpful, and friendly, and yet things like this pop up swimming the other way.

Overall, this is a good game that does a lot of things right. Gathering is not frustrating, crafting gives meaningful rewards just for leveling it, looting is not competitive, neither is mob tagging, and even for things that require groups (outside of dungeons) there is no need to spend half your time hunting for said group before actually, you know, playing the game. All of that gives GW2 a feeling much different from other MMOs, and I am not sure why Anet would want to change that. I can only hope those things I see running counter to that are more mistake than change of direction.

I didn’t partake of the event. I game on my own schedule when/what I want to play.

However, after finding out about the new ascended armor, I will be going home tonight and uninstalling. I have no use for WoW wannabe’s, nor their need for gear treadmills.

This game was not supposed to have those.

Yeah, the event finale I found quite irritating. I was unable to do the finale so I missed out on the 20 slot bag, 2 exotics, and 2 rares… even though I had done the other events fri/sat I got nothing for it. Would have been nice to get the rewards for having been to at least one of the one time events.

I absolutely love what the patch has done for exotics and legendary precursors! They are something that normal players will soon have access to instead of elitists. I also thing that the drop rate is slightly better, and I think that was long overdue and most welcomed.
Now if only these lower tier crafting materials would settle down, so I can start crafting again.

They’ve already stated this is their “Feedback” thread and the other thread is only to be used for “Discussion”. Aka “We hope these complaints go away if we make it awkward enough to follow the threads”.

Feedback :

- Fail making ascended gear long to obtain. Fail making ascended gear more powerfull as the exotic ones. Do you realize that MANY Guild Wars player didnt want have to loose hours farming gear ? And prefer enjoy the game for the game like so many did since 2005 with GW1 ?
Do you REALLY realise that ?

Why not allow player who DONT want farm your stupid mandatory gear, buy them for cheap / with karma to a merchant and make thoses gear directly linked to the character once bought ?
No need to farm for thoses who dont want to
No need to waste hour doing something you HATE to get the lastest in game gear
.

And the other could farm hours like korean grinder if the want to, and be “proud” of their hard work.
Everyone could be happy like that, and you could still do your stupid gear treadmill without annoy the casual players.

- Your team, is totaly incompetent to “balance” class skill. awfull failed fix for the mesmer, so many bug skill unfixed.
GW1 was awesome for his complet and deep management of the builds and skill.
GW2 totaly fail with that, even your " skill team " still didnt even know HOW make smart skill fix.

exemple : Do you really thing adding 30sec reload to the mesmer portal will fix the portal exploit in WvW ? or will prevent a 100player bus ( or more ) to pass through it ?
Answer : NO

btw : the fractal dungeon basic idea is fun. It allow nice drop too. ONLY this part is nice.
Except that, sorry, but its a pretty huge fail.

“we leave the grind to other MMOs.”

Why OH why are you adding new content so close to release. You need to prioritize bug fixing, class balancing, etc. instead of focusing on stupid holiday content+plus a new island with no substance. Your design decisions do not make any sense. WE are the players, we pay your salaries and decide if you get to keep your job months down the line. Please OH please listen to your player-base and fix this game which has so much potential.
