I’m kinda disappointed that they buffed whirling axe PVP only…why is that? I mean, they did not nerf 100 blades in PVE…don’t make a weapon viable in PVP only, that is not fun. I like PVP but I like to play PVE like a play PVP, not completely different weapons..

I imagine this has got to be annoying for rangers. I mean, not for me—I run mostly longbow, not BM build, and I run birds because that’s what fits the character—but I’m pretty sure I was in the minority. Everyone else seemed to run BM/cats, and got hit with the nerf hammer pretty hard. I’m not sure that it was necessary to nerf pets so hard—but, then, I’m focused on the PvE side of things.

Other than that, I run condition thief, axe warrior, and sword/torch guardian. It’s a pretty good day to have an off-normal build.

This patch definitely fell short of providing any meaningful changes to any class other than the necro. I feel bad for Rangers, Anet actually made a bad class worse in pve…………………..This is a good indication of where Anet is taking this game though and should be a wake-up call to a lot of people. I’m going to give the changes a try, but in all likely-hood my warrior is going to be the same and in some cases worse off than he was before the patch (which was gawd-awful). I’ve increasingly found myself spending time in other games due to the blatant imbalances in this game and this patch is probably just going to reinforce that notion, it’s honestly hard to believe Anet even plays their own game at this point.

I think they nerfed pet damage because of the recently popular BM Bunker builds, where the Ranger could just focus on throwing all their stats into defense while their pets did all the damage, creating both incredibly high defense and moderately high offense all at once.

Read the patch notes dude, it explains itself. It’s loot from the Rich Dragon Coffer which because of a bug did not drop. It will be retroactively rewarded to those people who bought coffers previously from the patch.

People who open rich coffers from now on can get that food.

I have all the profs at 80. My necro is happy with the patch and my guardian is ok with it. Sadly, all the other profs didn’t fare as well. Warrior’s always traded survivability for damage and now I think the guardian may be a better profession overall in PvE—perhaps we have a new king. Maybe Anet wanted to break up the GW2 trinity and reduce the standard dungeon group to four guardians and a mesmer. In the face of a patch like this one is left wondering as far as understanding intent. Just not enough rational detail to infer rational intent.

Sad about the ranger nerf/buff as it won’t move the class forward at all. I really don’t know what they were attempting with the engineer, but the break stun shuffle leaves him with less utility before even considering damage issues.

I don’t think this patch competes favorably for worst patch ever, but it is disappointing. I would think that they would at least try, in a balance patch, to meaningfully address engineer and ranger in the same manner as they did the necro. Oh well.

Everyone else seemed to run BM/cats, and got hit with the nerf hammer pretty hard. I’m not sure that it was necessary to nerf pets so hard—but, then, I’m focused on the PvE side of things.

Pet management is a very difficult issue for many players. So they seem to have taken the route of making them less important.

Not sure I agree with this because the pet is the ‘special thing’ for the ranger.

That said, I used devourers so never had pet management issues (they stay at range and apply conditions, and rarely ever get hit by anything). My ranger is all about being a PvE ‘tanky’ skirmisher, so this is a buff for me in many ways.

But I’m not sure its the buff my ranger needed.

I would have preferred they just give pets a special toughness versus AoE. The WoW solution. But I can understand not doing that: Pets in WoW simply -NEVER- die no matter what you do with them (unless you try to tank with them), unless everyone else is already dead…

It looks like a LOT of rangers will be making new builds. I might be one of the few who just logs in and continues where I left off.

I feel genuinely bad for anyone playing a Ranger. My wife plays a Ranger and last night was like a funeral “Let me play my build one last time before it’s crushed.” Back to the drawing board for her it seems, or perhaps a switch to the Mesmer she just leveled to 80.

Warrior
I already reported 2 tooltips errors (Berserker’s Stance and Leg Specialist) and a bug in Axe skill 1# third attack “Triple Chop” (it works as old version, not as the new).

Finally Burst Damage trait was changed!! 10 months!!! TEN!! Now it is decent, not sure if good, but decent yes.

Unfortunately there are no healing skills cooldown reduction, that was supposed to be a very important improvement but developers changed their mind before the update. Sad story.

EDIT: Still missing cooldown reduction trait for Sword.

EDIT 2: Trait Burning Arrows tooltip is wrong, missing cooldown reduction.

Warrior’s Burst Mastery trait is now bugged with the changes to Discipline. It doesn’t reduce cooldowns whatsoever on burst skills (maybe due to it not stacking with the changes to Discipline?), which essentially reverts it to its old functionality. Eagerly awaiting a fix.

Necros got an uber-buff… As a Necro main I’m actually worried about becoming overpowered if these buffs continue. Tainted Shackles is amazing but it scares me a bit.

Overall, pleased with this patch. Look forward to seeing continuing changes by the balance team in the future.

Shame about Shortbow Rangers and Thieves though.

Sad day to be a ranger,

It depends on what kind of ranger you were.

They nerfed the kitten out of the shortbow and pets. I mean I now have axe skills with the same range as arrow skills.

I’ve always been a sword/torch and axe/axe ranger with ranged devourer pets.

Seems a neutral patch for my build.

Looks like that’s the theme for everything – nerf some builds and buff others to try and make them all on par with each other.

Looks like thief pistol/pistol still needs a helping hand though (unless they nerfed thief shortbow – I’ve not used that since level 3 or so, so I couldn’t tell – I don’t even know the names of the shortbow abilities), but a LOT of other builds will now be competitive.

……………This patch is a disaster, the vast majority of tool-tips are wrong on the warrior. The new bow trait has no effect on cool-downs and neither does the discipline tree. Overall a very pathetic showing for what was to be the definitive balance patch for this year. My guess is that you’re gonna see a lot of people quit with these changes as they’ve done nothing but make an already poor pvp scene worse.

Well mesmers got a big nerf with the change to first minor trait in Illusions

I call that a wash. The replacement trait is pretty solid too. BUT it will mean having to use more variety in which shatter to go for. But 5 points in the line will mean any of the 4 shatters will still apply confusion. So even if you don’t need the ‘daze’ for example, you might still use it to get confusion.

But with the illusions having more health – in PvE at least, there’s now less need to shatter them the very instant you have 3 going.
- Builds that keep them up will now be more able to be as good as builds that shatter them quickly.

Rangers have been asking for one of two things:

1- Make the pet able to hit moving targets
or
2- Reduce the pets damage and move it towards the ranger

They didn’t do #1 and they did the first part of #2…I like the change to longbow but they pooped on shortbow in the process.

Now the Wilderness and Nature magic, those were some interesting changes but they weren’t what the community was asking for – therefore you get a lot of PO’d peeps.

On another note my highest level character is a ranger I use for PvE. I’ll just have to work to adapt my play style to fit in with the changes. I don’t mind new challenges.
