Paying Transmute Charges for Gem Store Armor
I don’t think that low level characters should pay for transmutation at all too.
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant
I bought an armor set recently and got the whole set free to apply (1 time).
So, unless you missed that I guess you want it to be free for as many times as you want?
Yeah that’s one of the main things that stopped me from buying armor skins on the gem store. That, and the fact that I already dropped $150 on the game for Collector’s Edition… starting to regret that now that much of what I want in the game will still cost me an extra $10. Throw me a bone, Anet…

It’s a reasonable request, given it’s something that we potentially paid for with real money. It’s akin to the classic MMO subscription model: you buy something and then are expected to continue buying it, either with money or with time (by grinding map completions, time is money and all that jazz).
Multiply everyone’s amount of transmutation stones by 3, then change it so that below level 80, you only require 1 transmutation charge and 3 at level 80 per piece of armor..
or they could just change the current system to cost a charge only when first using a skin on a specific item and have all subsequent uses of the skin -on that item- free of charge
Perhaps the only RP-oriented guild on the server

Tsk tsk. Before April 15, you could only have one of that skin on one character. People pushes it, ANET let you now have as many copies of that skin as you want for transmutation charges. Now people want it for FREE. So demanding and entitlement. You bought it once. It’s already unlocked, and you have 1 free use of the skin. Just earn the transmutation charges. It’s not that hard to get. I’m sitting on a few hundreds by just playing.
The system is fine as is.

It is not “fine as is”. Not even remotely. I’ve got items from launch (namely the cool hat) that I can’t use because I don’t have any charges and I don’t seem to be earning them from anything. I just came back to the game after taking more than a year off. I bought the HUGE collector’s edition at launch and what do I have to show for it in-game? A golem banker that lasts for two weeks.
The cash shop in this game is just as bad now as games with zero entrance price like TERA. But even TERA gives you cool items for being a founder. This gives literally just the “veteran” title.
Edit: And I know I’m bumping an old thread. It’s either that or get yelled at from forum wanna be moderators for starting a new thread when old threads exist.

Pfft another Necro thread:
The minute you sign up to work a job for free with no pay or benefits what so ever is the day you can complain about a company making money. As Stars said they have already given in and improved it. But I guess your one of those people that if we give you an inch you take the whole Interstate

Lol you mean by doing lots of map completion? That’s the only way I can think of that “just playing” yields charges.
I came here to make a post but I’ll just add it to this one. It’s really annoying buying a set of armor to use a few pieces out of it then you hold onto the rest in case you want them should let you right click and turn them into charges so you don’t have to mule them

Nearly every activity in the game (not actually “activity” since those don’t yield the same drops) gives a chance of looting a Black Lion Chest Key or Black Lion Chest.
Opening those also gives you a chance at getting charges.
If you don’t want to spend money to get charges, and don’t want to map complete to get charges, then maybe you really don’t want to transmute things.
I want to get money, and I don’t want to work. Does that mean I should complain about having to work to get money?
2 things here.
1.) Gem Store Armor sets would be much better off after you purchased them if they were like the Achievement skins and you could use them as many times as you want for free. That’s what purchasing is. Save the trans charges per use for in game items.
2.) This isn’t really an issue anymore as ArenaNet has decided on only releasing outfits in the gem shop for who knows how long. It’s not a money thing people. If it was we would be getting more armor sets on the gem shop than outfits. Why? Armor sets come in three types and you have to use a trans stone per piece. Not only do they make money on each set, but each piece each time you have to use them. Outfits unlock for your whole account for a one time fee. I really think it’s a time and work load issue for ArenaNet at this point. They don’t have the people to design 3 sets of armor for male and female and 5 different races. Don’t look at this as a money thing because it isn’t.

Lol, nearly every activity has a 0.0000000001% chance of dropping a Key, with the only remotely reasonable chance being, once again, map completion.
Anyway, arguments like yours are so hilariously missing the point. I’m not wasting my time going down strawman road this time.
The system is fine as it is now. Before, you had to buy the armor for $10. If you deleted it or wanted it on another character, you had to pay ANOTHER $10. If you wanted it on a third character, that’ll be another $10. So for 3 characters to have a gemstore outfit, it would cost you $30.
With the new and improved system, you buy the outfit once for $10, then either buy, or use map completion to get transmutation charges to put the outfit on whoever you want.
Here is the Wooden Potatoes guide to get you started.

Black Lion keys are easy to get. You can average 1 key every 20 minutes if you do the human personal storyline up to level 20.

Better than an incredibly bad system does not make it “fine”.
And I don’t know where you get the “You can average 1 key every 20 minutes if you do the human personal storyline up to level 20.” part. I’m doing that story right now and I’m level 17 and have gotten one key.
Look no other game that has a “transmog” type system makes you pay or grind out currency to change every single piece of gear. It’s a really, REALLY bad way to treat your customers. All it does it make me feel like I don’t own the full game.

You must not have watched the video. Anyway, you have to remake and delete a human character every time you want another key to keep redoing the human personal story. So save 1 character slot for key farming. Simple enough.
Yes there are games much, MUCH worse in the fashion department. Let me tell you a story about Maple Story. It was one of the first free to play games to hit American shores. It came out in ‘04 or ’05 (can’t remember). Anyway, if you want fashionable armor you have to buy individual pieces with REAL LIFE MONEY to cover up your ugly stat armor. Oh, and the best part is, the cash shop armor is deleted after 90 days. Yes, you read that correctly. You buy the armor with real money, and then it disappears after 90 days and you have to re buy every. Single. Piece. Again. OH and these pieces are not cheap! Most tops in the game are around $8. Hats are about $3, gloves are $3-5, shoes are $3-5, pants can be $4-8, capes/mounts/facial eyewear/makeup/pets can be anywhere from $5-$20. Oh and these all expire after 90 days as well.
Some classes (Evan, the dragon master class) requires that you buy his core skills with real money, or you can’t progress. You seriously can not play this class until you buy his skills with real life money. You will die because his only and most important defense skill (magic guard) is blocked behind kitten wall. There are 2 more skills at level 70 you must buy (each are $5 as well, so total of $15 for the whole class) otherwise you simply will stink and die and it is impossible to progress until you pay up.
Maple Story offers no conversions between in game currency (mesos) and real life money. So it’s credit card only. Pay up.
So before you make wild accusations about how awful this game is ripping you off, please go try Maple Story. It will not only open your eyes, but it will blow your mind. The stuff that Nexon (their publisher) gets away with is criminal. I was double-charged on my credit card from that game, and it took 3 months for a GM to answer my ticket. One of my accounts was hacked, and it took 3 years, 3 YEARS before a GM closed the ticket. That’s right, they never answered it, they outright CLOSED the sucker. Now THAT is a game that wants your money and offers no support or customer service, yet has 92 million players, with 6 million of those being here in the U.S. It’s mostly popular in asia, with China and South Korea being its biggest supporters. After playing that game, this game is a godsend.
He’s operating under old information. It used to be 1 key/20min. Nowadays the fastest key farm is 1 every 60-90min. I believe WoodenPotatoes did a video on how to farm the keys with the new changes.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….

Having to farm keys by deleting and remaking a character just shows how stupid this system is.
And saying the cash shop in this game is good because it’s better than Maple Story is like saying that malaria is great because it doesn’t kill as many people as the bubonic plague did.
To be fair about Maplestory, that was simply the American method for the cash exchange (which, in turn, was adopted by EU, MSea, Taiwan).
In Korea (where the game originated), the system had permanent items from the very beginning. The sale tab, that exists in Global servers, lasted 365 days instead of being permanent (but at roughly 1/10 the price). Additionally, no class could use the cash shop to obtain skills (LOOKING AT YOU DUAL BLADER). I don’t believe it was there at the beginning, but it came pretty fast that you could trade cash shop items once before they became soulbound (although that one trade would also be used up by putting it in your bank).
So yes, Maplestory in America has a really criminal business model. But what was intended (and not enforced by corporate management) was relatively harmless and, by most definitions, fair.

Got to add my voice to this too. I really hate how much skin items are taking up space in my Bank and across my various characters by now. I tend to buy most skins, I tend to earn most skins that’s not buyable. With the “new” Wardrobe system, why not let us just make skins into Transmutation charges instead of it taking up all this space. I can’t even buy more Inventory or Bank slots here, ArenaNet. I guess an alternative option would be if you gave us more Bank slots (to buy), but I would prefer just turning skins into charges, so that I can potentially add the remaining parts of a set (I wanted just one part of a set in some of my combinations of gear) at some later time, without these inventory issues.
