Penentent /Shelters Gate went downhill
I think the point of events was never to easily farm them for a quick inventory’s worth of drops, and the events were simply too easy to complete before.
I think arenanet made a good call here by attempting to balance the events for larger groups of people.
I think it encourages people to get out more in stead of hanging around the same three locations.
I think adding any number of normal mobs does not increase the challenge of events past a certain point because of the large amount of AoE avaliable to players. Shifting them to vets and champs, adding mobs with large siege attacks, and other such challenges was really the only way to ensure these events are still challenging rather than a braindead farm fest.

Yeah, it’s not like this was one of the most camped events on the map or anything.
This is just my opinion, of course. The new scaling system now unleashes Champions and many more Veterans, and it ruined the farming. Many people getting downed, too few normal mobs.
It would have been much better if the mob normal mob numbers were increased, and perhaps one Champion. I asked for scaling, but this is NOT what I had in mind.
Personally, I would rather have it the way it was before, than the way it is now.
The quantity of drops seems dismal now.
What does everyone else think?
I think it’s perfect. Any other questions?
Now you actually have to fight instead of AE tag and move to the next group.

I liked it the way it was before as well but it was also way easier to hit DR with it. Also, the vets and champs are alright if you are in a group but still nothing as amazing as before. However, the biggest problem is killing the champion mob which takes a long time and have the countdown timer end on you with the mob disappearing. It should at least autokill the mob and give you the loot if you did enough damage. It sucks when you hit the champion mob for like 40 secs-1 minute and you get nothing from it.

I don’t think it should auto-kill the mob, but I do think the behavior of certain events where the mobs flee then vanish afterward could be adjusted to just having them flee, and make them vanish only after they’re out of combat. This would ensure people can at least finish killing something as gnarly as the champs.

So, I haven’t done this since the patch but based on what I’m reading if the Champ doesn’t go down in time he vanishes?
Why was this a good idea?
Champions tend to kill bots.

I’ve never seen a bot at the pen/shelter locations. Ever.
The events are perfect now? Spawning that many vets and champs is perfect?
This isn’t a freaking temple, with a (now crappy) chest, it’s a normal run of the mill DE.

They only exist to make it a lousy farming spot, to drive people to other parts of the game. To further punish people for not moving around.

I think you missed the part where these events are the test run of the new event scaling that will eventually be applied to all events. Basically, Arenanet wants all events to scale appropriately to large player counts, and they’re testing the water with a few popular ones because that’s where they know the most people will see and experience the new scaling.
Also, temple chests got buffed, as did most world boss chests. It’s now extremely rare to not get at least a rare from shadow behemoth or maw, not to mention the higher level dragon events (though somehow megadestroyer got left out)
Loot and event adjustments are not something that went wrong in this patch.

If you played GW1, do you remember The Wilds? …no? What about Maguuma Stade? … no? Amatz Basin? Ice Tooth Cave? …nope? nothing? There’s a good reason for that. There were many places in GW1 that just weren’t visited. So many empty outposts. Creating an incentive for other areas of the game to be seen as good DE/Farming spots can’t be easy, but at least they seem to be trying. This is one aspect of this patch I actually am happy with. I will say this though – I haven’t tried the Orr events since the update but – are you guys really struggling with (what sounds like) a few extra veterans? Goes to show the current real skill level, huh.

facepalm
No, I didn’t miss that this is the test run. This new system, by way of how it works, scales the difficulty Up and the rewards Down, and as such it is a poorly designed, awful solution.
Buffed rewards? I have seen no such increase, all I’ve seen is that all of those chests are now once a day only. As if it wasn’t already hard enough to get groups together for larger events, now anyone who has already done it for the day has no incentive to come help out again. Brilliant. As far as I’m concerned those chest events are still not worth doing.
Loot and event adjustments went very wrong in the patch, in my opinion.
The tagging thing seems to be fixed though, I now get enough porous bones to cover the cost of an occasional waypoint, oh rapturous joy.

ummm actually we aren’t struggling. Also, it isn’t a ‘few’ more veterans. It depends on how many people are doing the DE. Sometimes there are a couple vets, sometimes a couple champions. And these champions 1-2 shot you.

Based on this part of your response you would like the changes
As for the lack of bots at P/S their are either bots or some people are really slow learners.
Event starts beserk warrior sprints down the road into 8 mobs that are now a mix of normal vet champ AOE’s dies 3 or 4 others follow same result, perhaps lemmings find the warrior class attractive.
P/S was becoming a face roll for some classes, groups of mobs would melt before they were barely beyond their spawn point. People wernt defending camps but spawn camping mobs a mile from the base it was getting silly. It required all the skill of beating a sloth in a 100yard dash.
Now you actually need to fight occasionaly mobs last longer than a pico second and there are still resonable rewards for your time.
For a time some people got a ton of mats gold etc for next to no effort, to quote one player “I like to face rolls P/S while watching TV on the second monitor” it was going to change, it did change get used to it.
They only exist to make it a lousy farming spot, to drive people to other parts of the game. To further punish people for not moving around.
Good. Hope it works.
You are actually okay with this solution?
People go here because the rewards everywhere else suck in comparison, so lets nerf the rewards here so they simply suck everywhere? That has got to be the laziest way of solving that possible.
I once made a comment wondering what the game would be like if the dynamic scaling happened in both directions, scaling you up as you went to higher level zones like it scales you down, essentially removing the need to actually “level” a character at all. The response I got? That everywhere in the game outside end-game zones would be empty because people wouldn’t be forced to stay there.
I’m sorry but if that’s the only reason people have to visit a zone there’s something seriously wrong with that zones rewards. Every zone should be equally appealing, have reasons to be there other than “oh well they nerfed my fav farming spot and made this zone a total pain to be in, guess I’ll find somewhere else to play”
That’s not a good solution, it’s poor design, compounded by poorer solution.
There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon

It’s not a skill level issue, we aren’t having trouble killing them. The problem is like this, the event now replaces normal mobs with vets and champs. When it’s a vet they simply take a bit longer to kill and you miss out on some of the kills from the next wave. When it’s a champ they seem to replace an entire wave, take more effort than an entire wave, but return less than a single kill from a wave of normal mobs. So in essence the further the difficulty scales UP the further the reward scales DOWN.
That is why this system is garbage. If the rewards went up appropriately it wouldn’t be an issue. But this takes an already crappy loot situation and makes. it. worse.
Sure they fixed the tagging bug, I now get enough porous bones to cover an occasional WP fee, oh fabulous day.

Sure, get too many people there and you’d kill the waves fast enough to push the defensive line out to the spawn points. But simply cramming waves full of vets and replacing every other wave with a champ is a ham-fisted, uncreative, unimaginative, uninteresting, un-fun way of solving that issue.
“Now you actually need to fight occasionaly mobs last longer than a pico second and there are still resonable rewards for your time. "
Unfortunately the biggest part of the problem is that the vets and champs offer no better reward than any of the other mobs yet take considerably more effort to kill. And since they replace other mobs they in effect reduce the reward, both by reducing the total # of mobs and by having crappier loot.
I’m not against making the fights more interesting, but the only thing they can come up with is Moar vets/champs/CC using mobs. And that’s not more interesting, it’s more tedium for less reward.
There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon
is scalling these events a solution? i think its just ridicolous how crowded these events r. u cant see more than 20 or 30 ppl buts there r probably 100. this is just a bad gaming experience and u cant fix it by adding harder mobs that make it even less fun. u die more often and lose your magic find stacks … less loot…. they need to find a solution for too crowded spots by adding more interessting places where u can farm events…
do ppl rly enjoy theses crowded dragon events and farm events??? im pretty sure most ppl r doing it for loot. so what the hell is anet doing? it seems they dont know what ppl would like to have….
anet has to find a way to make other things more attractiv…
why is there no reward for running all path in a dungeon or playing 2 path in 2 different or something like that? this would maybe stop ppl from farming just 1 dungeon and event….
this game is lacking in options to achiev your goal…. legendary takes sooo much stuff so ppl need options for having a good farm experience….
cant u see it? -.-
The new scaling system is great.
I now actually stop and take part in the events, and there is at least a slight chance
of failure.
Before that, all open world events were dumb and suitable only for farmers.
+1 for that to Anet.
lose a pip,win 2 pips,lose a pip,lose a pip…………..-

One of the first things I did after the patch was head to CS for a little farming. What a disappointment this patch brings to CS. A party mate summed it up nicely: “they killed it”.
Champs, champs everywhere and nary a drop among them. They take so long to kill that the reward for play is at least cut in half. We all know champs are worthless and I was fine with that as we could easily avoid them. Now multiple champs are in your face. Orr is meager in terms of reward for play to begin with; I honestly don’t know what they were thinking. The next thing I did was logout an did a long facepalm. GW2 is such a good game that you would have to actively try to ruin it in order to get it to fail but that seems to be the goal Anet’s intent on achieving at this point.
I couldn’t bring myself to play today except to check out a krait DE mentioned in another thread. I did go Orr on the character I left there last night and did one DE and logged out. I really don’t want to play there now. It’s painful to watch the disintegration of this game.
Yay, more mobs, less rewards. I loved having no money and I’ll love never having money again. First with the exploits that left some with more wealth than all the other players combined and now us lowly nubs can’t even make a gold a day without getting nerfs.
I was SO sick of everyone in cursed shore farming them two camps over and over. Like you’re trying to do Grenth and typing in /map for people to come… but theres 50 people camping shelt/pen for the events and they won’t leave because it’s too awesome. So doing things anywhere else on the map was like… impossible… I am GLAD its gone downhill, maybe now they will spread out and do the other events.
Except for the fact that they made these chests 1 per day only. Yeah, you get good drops from these chests now but have fun trying to get enough people to do them. Imo, they should increase the limit to at least twice a day so there is actually an incentive to do them if you have already done it already. Or at the very least create some kind of tool so people all around the server can group up for it.
I am actually still very surprised anet has not made any communication tools for groups (ie. global chat, lfg tool etc.). They can ‘improve’ these events all they want, but it’s hard to do them when there is barely any form of communication.
It’s about time they properly adjusted these areas. This change should’ve been implemented months ago.

Yeah, there is no reason to those DEs… there is no reason to be in orr now lol. So now you are even less likely to find groups. And, as someone already mentioned, most people will completely ignore Orr in its entirety once they’ve done it once due to 1-loot-a-day.
It’s about time they properly adjusted these areas. This change should’ve been implemented months ago.
Seems to be a problem with the response time on some things.
A particular food gives a huge advantage a location or play style gives 10 times the rewards it should, if it lasted a week and got patched people would be oh well i got 50g while it lasted.
It runs for months then patched people are OMG how dare you
in my opinion the change they made to shelt/penit are so bad, i mean if the events were like that since the first month of the game it wouldn’t really matter but after everyone farmed the kitten out of it they decide to make it annoying and not fun to play i myself like grinding in there now it’s just annoying and i don’t enjoy farming there anymore… i’m sure many other people feel the same way, please change it back the way it was, ty
Oh no, now you might have to actually try a little bit when you farm for stuff in the game.
We should just merge this with the thread kittening about how they can’t abuse the hell out of stealth kits anymore so we can have a concise list of people who only want to put in the absolute minimum and expect everything for it in return.
They won’t. And I know this because I picked out a few words you said that contradict the changes. For instance you can’t say “[…]the change they made[…]are so bad[…]” and “[…]i don’t enjoy[…]there anymore[…]” and hope they change it because their goal was for people to have less fun so in their books they succeeded.
I realize it’s more likely the people who are having problems who will complain and so I understand this thread as I would probably be mad too. What most people seem to be overlooking or don’t understand is that barring the vets/champs, which I personally find to be a welcome change, all you farmers would likely still be getting way less loot than pre-patch. This is because of a tricky little bug that only months of complaining and pressure from those of us who typically get nothing for drops finally got ANet to dig in to and find. We have yet to see if this problem is actually fixed, though, in general, I seem to be getting somewhat better drops than pre-patch. It also relates to the champion problem.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Update-on-Loot-Drops-Investigation/first#post1462956
After reading reports in the loot issues thread, we spent more time investigating our rewards system. As I mentioned a few weeks ago, we verified that all loot tables are indeed working correctly in the game. Since then, we continued receiving reports that there seemed to be an issue, so we extended our search to all systems that created opportunities for you to get items from loot tables. Here we found an issue that we were able to verify was consistent across everyone who reported problems:
The rules by which you qualify for credit for an event or for experience when killing a mob are different rules than those used to help determine if you qualify for loot. Some of these were set up to be unintentionally restrictive, and as such you could kill a creature with a lot of health (this was most noticeable on champions) and not qualify for loot, despite qualifying for all other credit.
Which means some people weren’t getting credited properly while others were getting too much. While some people’s earning potential go down, others go up. While Colin mentioned champions, I would argue it was much more noticeable on regular mobs. This is another welcome step towards actually balancing the professions.
It also shouldn’t come as a surprise that they did stuff to make grinding/farming more difficult. To be completely frank, I’m surprised they let it go on for so long. It’s not like it’s a secret that they really don’t want people doing this. Really, if you’re only in it for the grind…there are better games out there for that.
Now if they could just tweak zerker warriors rofl-farming of instances I’ll be even happier. I know, right… “in my dreams”.
Trying different party combination on your so called “rofl-farming of instances” and the choice is either to endure much longer, or hit much harder. Zerker type serve better on second option.
case solved.

Back to zerker onry speed farming CoF.
Im zerker warrior with dps trait (means no health/ armor) and i done many different type of dungeon.
@Leamas
The reason I don’t think the decrease in loot rewards has anything to do with the recent changes to loot tagging, and people not getting drops is because during the krait event at splintered coast, which received similar changes, there was only two people participating, me being one of them, and I still noticed a great decrease in material drops due to the regular krait mobs being supplemented/replaced with vets.
@ other posters.
I have no problems with the increased difficulty, in fact, I think they should add this system to many other events. (maw being one, the final boss in that event drops in like 20 sec) The only issue I have with it is the overall rewards being decreased due to a decrease in normal mobs. And when I rewards, I’m generally talking about mat drops, and coin drops, not equip drops. (since you get one of those every time you drop a champ)
And no, I don’t spend all my time at pent/shelt, I only went there when I needed some money/mats to craft a set of exotic for my character, since I don’t do dungeons. (Because of this I hardly ever sell ectos or mats unless I’m sure I wont need them)
I like farming, and I liked farming those events. There was a reason for it. It’s flipping impossible to get moldy bags with any decent speed anymore.
If they made it so champions dropped 0-5 bags or something, I wouldn’t be so annoyed. But this was my favorite farming spot. I’m sick of them nerfing my ability to farm over and over in such a grindy endgame.
The thing is, it only punishes people to do it in a big group, and its better to do it when it’s not scaled up so high with a lot of players.
They need to add more normal mobs, and make them spawn at new locations, that is how it should scale. Now, all I end up with is a few worthless items, because of the Champs and Veterans, also when the event is over, everything dies, why not let the existing mobs finish? Almost every time there is at least one Champ, that survives past the event end, and all the effort is wasted. Also, why not add an extra 2 minutes to the events?
this needs to be changed back the way it was asap! nuff said
I like the changes. I think it was definitely warranted but have you guys even seen the number of champions that are spawning? There was like 4 champs up at one point in shelter….
Nevertheless, they are still very farmabale. Too bad that the champs just disappear into thin air if they’re still alive once the event is over.

You know I have to laugh when I see a post like this, I’m not laughing at you it’s just the irony of the topic. I am getting 3x-4x more loot then I was prior to this patch. As an elementalist I was tapping every creature, receiving exp, but never getting loot. Now I am getting loot by barrels full.
I guess it’s all based on perspective.

I hate this shelt/pen nerf so bad. Time to find the next chain to farm (I have a few leads)
Good thing I grinded it for 5 months and I got most of the stuff I want in game already. It’s going to stink for everyone else who is behind, especially casuals.

only smart post in this thread…
temples are still useless…20min for 2 rares and only once a day…
champions in pen/shelter doesnt have any sense….from 5min event you spend half of that time killing a boss for no drop…there is already many people(farmers) on gandara not happy with this
There are two types of people responding to this post…farmers and not farmers.
Farmers are kitten because they can’t mindless run between two points and make bank. That’s how they want to play the game.
People who don’t get farmers don’t like what farming does to the rest of the game. I’m with those people. Farming isn’t something that’s your “right”. It’s not something you get to do. DR was added to stop people from messing up other people’s games. It has to do with inflation, it has to do with the marketplace price of certain items. It’s not just about your phat lootz.
Anet did what Anet has always done. Made it harder to farm, because farming is YOUR game, but it’s not THE game.
I hope this drives farmers away from the run. Of course, they’ll only turn up somewhere else, until that’s nerfed too.
Why can’t people just play the game?

The problem is you can’t farm stuff in this game anymore with the DR. I think pent/shelt is lame anyway but the reason why people went there is because this game has horrible drops and the debs have made it impossible to craft for profit unless you buy some or all the mats off the TP.
Why can’t people just play the game?
totally agreed with you; dont catter to the farmers. its really ruining the gameplay.
worst comes to worst, jampack them all in the same mindless facerollable farm spot than you can put on the other side of tyria (or in a dungeon like wow did).
open world “mob farming” need to be kept to a minimum, if not totally discouraged.
or make these “farmable events” real tough, like grenth.

why do you even play the game then??why dont you just go and play tetris or something…..obviously people that farm and spend lot of time ingame have some goals…if it was just playing the game it would be game as any else…..and at first place they gave us achivments like equip legendary weapon….now they are just makeing it impossible nerfing all they can….ofc like with every other mmorpg company its all about $$$
Yesterday, I did the krait attacking the lab event that takes place on the doorstep of the Teq spawn area. Champion after champion, with plenty of vets to fill the gaps. Not only did the drops suck (I mean, they were gawdawful pathetic), but there was no participation reward at the end of it either. Happened twice in a row before I moved on.
Now the fight was better than previously because there was an element of challenge to it. Been a long time since I’ve been downed in one of those types of events, but it happened twice during the same one yesterday. That a GOOD thing. It means I need to start paying attention again, something that hasn’t been necessary for months.
However, the time I spent there was absolutely NOT rewarded in kind. Over two events, I think I picked up a couple of blues, two scales and some other assorted salvage trash. For the time and effort I put it, it was a total waste of time. I could have walked a short ways away and farmed risen and skelk for two to three times that haul.
So, the bottom line (for me at least), is that the difficulty jump is great. That’s how events should feel. But unless the rewards are ramped up as well, they aren’t worth doing. Not when randomly farming mobs in the countryside provides far superior results. I killed maybe a dozen champs over those two events and didn’t even see a green at the end of it all. It’s starting to make me question if my damage was even registering. My Thief with shortbow AoE never had tagging problems before.
what you doing when you don’t farm?
I made few tries and found: I hate most of dungeons + they got nerfed too.
I can’t play WvW as I dc when many people are next to me (and if I’m alone I have nothing to do).
Exploration is done, even if it was slow, grind, not fun experience to me.
Make alts? Done few, very boring.
So what else to do if not farm?
