Me, who is a massive GW1 fan, it’s not like I hate the GW2. In fact, I like it, and have been logging in still pretty frequently. It’s just that I don’t like where the game is headed, particularly the temporary contents and especially with how the ascended items were introduced (and how it is acquired via time-gating and stuff) and the justifications they made (how it’s supposed to bridge the gap between exotic and legendary when in fact it makes it worse when they implemented ascended weapon crafting and how it uses resources that could’ve been used for Legendaries instead).

BRIDGE: a structure carrying a pathway or roadway over a depression or obstacle. (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/bridge)

BUT, I still have hope that they’d still be able to fix the game enough to still abide by the manifesto (how we’d find the things we love from GW1 in GW2 and how there isn’t a steep VP in terms of getting BiS) they had when they were promoting this game. So we criticize, and we say how we don’t like the game as it is now. They’d still be able to make the game as good as it was before, when it was fun and when it didn’t feel like a chore.

For one, I’d rather have ascended equipments tradeable, like exotics, so that we still have one universal currency to purchase any equipment tier we need, and play how we wanna play the game and not lose on any content: GOLD.

For the temporary content, I wish we could have a wallet of some sort of the skins we have unlocked via the meta achievements from LS like the one on the achievement panel. I find it annoying that when new backpieces are released, I have no way of getting the old one back once I transmute, and probably never will. As a sort of souvenir affirming that I was there when it was released or whatever.

I agree on temporary content.
While fun, it simply doesn’t work on a persistent game.

Disagree on ascended blamed on anet since it was the community to cry for a treadmill in september/october, little to do about it since players would complain without.

A lot of the newer content isn’t temporary, though. Tequatl is here. The new dungeon path coming is permanent too. And some of the stuff, like SAB is recurring like a festival.

Well they could’ve implemented it in a friendlier way. Right now, ascended items feel so disconnected to each other in how they are acquired. It’s so clunky that it really seems rushed or a mere afterthought.

Yea like I said I still have hope for this game… I just wish they prioritized the new skills/traits over these ascended items. I’d be upset (again) if they introduce ascended armors BEFORE some sort of horizontal progression.

so its temporary? Spring comes every year, doesnt mean its permanent
the new dungeon path took over an old one that was fun. The new one looks boring as hell and it only took the devs 30 min to finish meaning for pug groups it will take 5 min + 7 min of watching the unskippable npcs talking scenes.

Funny how they listened to those treadmill hamsters instead of the whole community of dungeoners who asked for bug fixes and new challenging content (inb4 someone says tequatl – are you joking?). Anet made an easy decision to lengthen the games life and then cited the people who wanted a treadmill as the reason.

I did all of it ill go back to watch it in case i missed anything but it seemed really boring. The worst thing was that puzzle part. I dont know about you but i like difficult bosses not difficult communication with members of my party especially those french guys who somehow keep finding their way into my parties.

We’ll whether it is interesting or not is subjective, but in the stream they didn’t finish the dungeon. In fact they stopped right before the 1st boss (of what I would guess is 3 bosses).

They spent 9 minutes failing the puzzle then trolled us by not showing at least one boss fight…

I find this odd too, especially since each path seem to have an interesting lore attached to it.. Maybe they’re just working on it and just TEMPORARILY replacing it with the new one?

I don’t think you can skip the trash based on the info in the top right corner (though I don’t consider this intrinsically bad as long as there is mob variety and not too much trash). However, their group was pretty bad. I assume, like you said, a good group could probably get that far in 5-10 minutes. Hopefully the bosses will be interesting and the rewards will be up to snuff.

Im not even going to do this path now…..trash mobs are not fun they are not interesting. The guy in the video said his and anet’s design philosophy was to create content that would teach you new things or reward you for what you have learned. trash mobs do neither. They dont give you rewards except for trash loot, and they dont teach you anything. TAFU taught alot of people that you cant just go into any dungeon and expect to do it without any prior knowledge/ use of reflects. I bet the only reason they took the path out was because the devs dont know how to use reflects either seeing as how with two guardians they were having a hard time with one of the vines in that “tricky” hallway.

But back to what the OP was addressing i think its funny how someone has to title his thread with that buzz word: criticism otherwise people would say hes just whining. He made two good points. One that temporary content gives you too much stuff and theres no system to keep that stuff in a good useful location. He also brought up his concerns about ascended weapons which people have been bringing up for weeks now. They wont be addressed however. Anet has already opened pandora’s box and i doubt they will try to close it again. I wish that they would now listen to the posts of people against ascended weapons and realize that there are just as many if not more people who dont want ascended then those who want it and change. However, those who dont want it are also loyal while those who do are not. They are the short term people who need these artificial goals to get them through this game, a game that could have such a great future if anet makes good decisions now and makes a foundation that incorporates the community and makes a game that is enjoyable and involving with a strong relationship between devs and players.

Devils advocate time.

In Molten Facility a lot of the trash mobs abilities were adopted by the final 2 bosses in the end (shockwave, bouncing fire AoE, invuln AoE).

Plus I am 90% sure the 1st boss of this new path uses the ooze pheromone in some way (which was taught in the 1st puzzle).

Reward-wise really depends on what is in the aether-caches and how good the dungeon completion reward is (as it would be significantly lower if there weren’t trash mobs to make the dungeon longer).

I’m glad that they are replacing some of those terrible on-release dungeons (though TA F/U was probably the best of the 3, excluding the final boss). Though I would like the other 2 either replaced or completely revamped as well.

In Guild Wars 1, in five years, I could count the times I heard trash mob used on one hand. No one called trash mobs trash in Guild Wars 1, because they could drop black and white dyes, or lockpicks in Eye of the North or anywhere in hard mode.

The idea that some mobs are trash and can’t reward you is ludicrous. It comes from games where that is literally not true. But you can get a rare, exotic or even a precursor from a trash mob.

People who skip trash mobs and complain about not getting drops at all make me laugh.

I think a lot of the issues with temporary content can be alleviated by bringing them back on a rotating basis — say, every month. Just make up some silly lore excuse (time travel, whatever) for their presence.

That way, the content isn’t lost forever — which may satisfy those who missed the content, and we don’t have so much content that people become too spread out (seems Anet is — justifiably — worried about this).

As for Ascended gear — as someone said: Pandora’s box has been opened, and there’s no closing it now. It will be what eventually kills WvW and perhaps the whole game.

You can get a rare, exotic or even a precursor from every single mob in the game. That doesnt mean that you will get one. Isnt the chance to get a precursor from a chest higher than from a random mob. Also the time you waste on killing trash is not worth the measly chance you get of a precursor.

And this path was compared to arah by Dulfy / Devs (dufly is pretty much a pr person for gw2 ) and said that it was challenging and skipping was impossible. First off skipping is almost essential to completing arah in a fairly good time. You go and aggro every single risen in that room before lupi with a pug group and tell me how much fun it was and whether it was worth it. Do that 1000000 times and tell me how many precursors you got.

But I do get rares and exotics, particularly as your MF goes up. It’s not relevant to me that you personally like running dungeons as fast as humanly possible…but not everyone does and the use of trash mobs as a term, was coined to denote mobs that drop only trash, ie grays.

Calling every mob trash mob because you’re impatient doesn’t make them trash mobs.

Ok fine theyre not trash mobs because you got rares and exotics (citation please). However making them unskippable is forcing us to play the way devs want us to. The number 1 reason to skip trash mobs is to finish the path quickly. the number 2 reason is because pug groups suck and im not wasting my time dealing with people who cant pull mobs. So far they have seemed fine with skipping, even robert hrouda said it was fine and they understood it (although they canned him for his reasonable personality) however now they seem to be forcing their ways upon me. I want to skip to finish dungeons as fast as possible because even though i have gotten one or two rares off of trash mobs i dont care enough to try and kill every single one of them in dungeons for a chance at something worth what? 20s? Im sorry i like to finish content quickly go ahead and burn me at a stake.

also trash mob is not a trash mob because of its capacity to drop loot its also called trash for the time vs reward. If you go into arah and kill every trash mob you will waste so much time whereas you could have finished arah and done a couple other dungeons in that time. For example in a good group filled with people who want to finish quickly you can get arah done in 20-30 min tops and then you can go and finish every path of ac in the remaining 30 min and get nearly 10g. If you spend an hour doing arah by trying to kill every trash mob and probably wiping a couple of times and taking it slow because you like that you will only make 3g + maybe an exotic worth 1-2g.
i dont do dungeons for the gold or the loot but for the fun this is just experiences i have had and some explanation i gave evaluating the worth of trash mobs (and yes i have joined a run that said no skipping to see what it was like and left an hour into it because we had just reached lupi and it wasnt worth it).

You really need a citation for something that well known. Any mob can drop pretty much anything. People have gotten precusors from the most ridiculous non-vet creatures. Being most of these “trash” mobs are veterans, are you seriously suggesting you need a citation to tell you you can get a yellow, exotic or precusor from a vet? Give me a break.

My guild blows through most of those mobs anyway. It’s the difference between the reward focused gamers (who probably don’t like this game that much) and people who actually enjoy content. I don’t personally mind killing trash mobs, I do get some nice drops from them, and it’s part of the game.

Why buy a game to skip most of it?

I meant show me the stats of how often rares exotics and precursors drop from random mobs.
I bought the game to skip the story and to play the dungeons. In the dungeons i like to skip the mobs that are easy and boring as kitten. The only mobs not easy to kill are the trash in arah however in p2 the trash is actually easier to kill then to run by. Anyways its just different styles of gameplay. The problem is when anet forces one over the other.

If you bought this game just to play dungeons, you’ve probably bought the wrong game. I’m not sure that it was ever implied that instances would be the main focus of Guild Wars 2. It was all about the open world and a living breathing world. That’s what they kept saying.

So yeah…sorry you bought a game to just run through dungeons over and over. One would think there were better options available for that play style.

A lot of the newer content isn’t temporary, though. Tequatl is here. The new dungeon path coming is permanent too. And some of the stuff, like SAB is recurring like a festival.

It seems the new dungeon path is replacing an old dungeon path. Most peculiar logic being employed there. Most peculiar, indeed.

The path being removed was the most unpopular, most hated, least played dungeon path in the game. It has been replaced by a path, made by the MF/AR team. I have good hopes that this path is going to be better than any F/U fix could have been. To sacrifice bad content to implement good content is, in my very humble opinion, a good thing.

If I can’t play Guild Wars 2 at work, I won’t work in Guild Wars 2 either.

People who actually enjoy the content?

If you’ve killed the same worthless uninteresting mobs 500000000 times then of course you’re more inclined to just skip them if you can.

Not that I’m huge on skipping.

A lot of the newer content isn’t temporary, though. Tequatl is here. The new dungeon path coming is permanent too. And some of the stuff, like SAB is recurring like a festival.

Oow heey Vayne

Anet has indeed been working on that a little. It’s still not like it should be because we still see some temporary rewards and achievements with Tequatl but it’s already better then before.

Now we can’t know if Anet will stay steering in this good direction. I lost the trust to just believe that without seeing it but he changes towards more permanent content where partly because many people (like me) on this forums complained about the temporary content..

Remember.. you where there to defend Anet telling how great temporary content was. Now you are here defending the fact that this new content is permanent. Thats not thanks to you.

And in the meanwhile you haven’t had time to play yourself.

I wonder how many festivel and themed patches there have been vs permanent stuff added to the game? By permanent, I mean I can log in any day at any time of the year and see it. Meaning…this excludes SAB. I wonder how many mini games(albeit some temporary) have been added to the game vs dungeon paths. Or Mini games vs new zones. Or mini games vs dungeon revamps. Look at the pattern!

so its temporary? Spring comes every year, doesnt mean its permanent
the new dungeon path took over an old one that was fun. The new one looks boring as hell and it only took the devs 30 min to finish meaning for pug groups it will take 5 min + 7 min of watching the unskippable npcs talking scenes.

Are you sure it takes them 30 min? I think they stopped half way. What I do not like about many dungeons in GW2 is that they are not that hard but that they are so very long.

The contrary is what I liked so much about MF and the other temporary dungeon (forgot the name). They where challenging but short, could still take you long if you where not good at them but the length itself was short..

Making a very long dungeon is not fun.. you do that once and then never again. A short but challenging and rewarding dungeon however you are more willing to do again. So I hope new dungeons will be shorter, not longer but also more challenging.

What pat will go away? I did see part of the twitch channel and I hearth them say that the path would count towards you total score for dungeon completion so you would be able to do this path in stead of Arah path 4. But if it replaces another path you would not be able to do so. So are you really sure another path will be removed?

Well they already said that during the first year they wanted to create a great amount of festivals and recurring events, like Wintersday/Dragon Bash etc. They did that, the game has one such event every other month, except for February (used to be Canthan new year, apparently they haven’t found something to fill the gap)

It stands to reason that those events will reappear every year, with slight adjustments, but the core will be the same, which means more time to make better the other releases.

During the second year we’ve seen the return of SAB (recurring event), Tequatl revamp and now we will get a Dungeon revamp. Let’s see if they will continue with this new 2nd year pattern that has nothing temporary so far other than some silly achievements (Boss week? Really?).

I don’t mind ascended not being tradeable, however I would prefer if they gave people more ways of obtaining it. Honestly, I feel ascended should be obtained in at least as many possible ways as exotic is (just massively more expensive), and maybe with time we’ll get that option. Right now they are feeding it to us a little bit at a time. Once upon a time you could only get the trinkets from playing fractals, now you can get them with laurels. Likely we’ll also get the ability craft some of them (jewelcrafting) when the other professions get leveled. Might need to just give them time, here’s to hoping.

As for the LS backpiece skins, Colin did say at PAX that they wanted to create some sort of skin closet like you’re talking about. It’s on their list of things to do, but I’m sure that list is 9 miles long by now and development can only be done so fast. This also likely takes a back seat to the ‘core game improvements’ that they’ve said was their main focus of this year, and all of the other things we’ve been told they are working on (world boss overhauls, dungeon updates, etc). So, again, I simply recommend patience. Neither Rome, nor our beloved GW1, was built in a day…(or even a year)

@champ, per the live stream yesterday, the new TA path does not allow skipping of the trash mobs. It is designed to play linearly, straight thru. It was one of the questions the dev fielded during the game play. Think he was trying to keep an ooze alive at the time. I’ll see if I can find the time stamp for you.

15:45 – 16:20 “Definitely along the lines of an Arah style Explorable path.” “Definitely designed to be played thru in sequence. Wanted to design it in such a way the skipping is essentially impossible” So…might be some skipability, but prob not a lot.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

I also did hear the dev say that it was like Arah and I was really surprised about that. Like I said before, the problem with many dungeon in GW2 is that they are very long. Challenging is fine and if it takes long because they are challenging it’s also fine but if a dungeon is very long because it’s literally very longs thats not fun. There is a reason why Arah path 4 is the most hated dungeon path in this game, so when the dev said Arah I was really stunned. I will see how the path is when I have played it (not complaining yet) and some things are for sure a step forward, like special armor drops.. thats something that really missed in other dungeons, maybe a rare mini and special recipe would also be nice but the whole mini marked has sadly been destroyed in GW2 because of previous decisions made.

But if it really is a long dungeon like Arah you can already know people won’t like it and I really wonder why somebody in Anet would have come up with that.

A question.. The path thats go’s away F/U is that the path with all the spiders on the end?

It seems the new dungeon path is replacing an old dungeon path. Most peculiar logic being employed there. Most peculiar, indeed.

The path being removed was the most unpopular, most hated, least played dungeon path in the game. It has been replaced by a path, made by the MF/AR team. I have good hopes that this path is going to be better than any F/U fix could have been. To sacrifice bad content to implement good content is, in my very humble opinion, a good thing.

MF and AR was good because it was short but still challenging. People hate Arah because it’s so long. The devs compared this dungeon to Arah and said it was long. Maybe they did not understand them-self why people liked MF and AR but making it long does not make it better, it makes it worse so it’s not strange that people are not happy about what they now know about the new dungeon. But like I said they also added good thinks. I think the puzzle is nice, rewards are nice, no cut-scenes are nice however if the dungeon is to long it people will still dislike it.

They also said reward would be higher because it was longer but reward should be better because it’s challenger. Remember MF that you could do over and over again for one gold (not just one time) and then with AR there was the possibility to kill the boss in a x time for an achievements but don’t make that an achievement make sure that buy killing his faster your drop change for a rare mini, skin, more gold, recipe or in the future mount will go up. That you reward for skills. Not for the time willing to spend inside an very long dungeon.

Voicing your opinion is fine, but since this is a (mostly) public forum, other users have the right to voice their opinion on you opinion. The more exagurated thr point in a post is, the easier it is to critisize. Also, when there’s too much of anything, there’s usually a backlash. For instance, this recent spike in “white knighting” we’ve seen lately is a direct backlash to the negativity this forum has become saturated with.
As for your suggestions; for Ascended I say no. Ascendeds are supposed to do what Exotics were supposed to do, “Take time to get”. Exotics became trivially easy to get because they were sellable on the TP. Making Ascendeds tradable threatens to trivialize acquiring them, and if that happens, the devs will have a reason to make a tier after ascended.

LMAO. No srsly, did you PLAY gw1? The drops from normal foes were terrible. Rarely did you get anything that was not merch food. Most chests dropped grapes until they tweaked them to drop more golds, and even then (prior to Nightfall and inscribe-ability) you were hard pressed to get anything with decent stat combos.

Personally, I get more drops in this game from my kills. It’s still all merch food, but it’s not any worse than its predecessor.

Yeah, I played GW1 for 7 years bro and still do. At least you can salvage mods off of ‘grapes’ or rares, get a title for IDing, and even use the weapon regardless of your class.

Learn to play hard mode if your drops suck, never once had a bad loot experience in GW1. I always got something out of a mission with or without other players.

You can’t tell me you ever left DoA/FoW/UW/SE without something worth while. Yeah GW2 drops more loot, but that loot is pure garbage.

Even in pvp a few matches yielded you a zkey which you can try your luck on the zaishen chest or simply sell it for 5 plat. Tell me an equal easy way to obtain wealth in GW2 without having to grind events 24/7. GW1 was the least amount of grind for the best amount of wealth vs effort in any game I’ve ever played.

Ectos dropped off regular elites btw so it was especially worth it to kill ‘trash’ in dungeons.

Yep. And how many people, by percentage, are dungeon runners. Do you know? Anet puts their effort into where most people are playing. If everyone played dungeons, Anet would focus on dungeons.

There was nothing I read during the lead up to this game that led me to believe dungeons would be the focus of this game. Anet said straight out the focus was dynamic events and a living, breathing world.

If you’re playing just for dungeons…that’s fine. But don’t expect the devs to stop programming stuff more people do for stuff less people do.

Are you kidding me? The drops in Guild Wars 1 sucked badly. It got to the point where most drops had zero interest for me. If it wasn’t a black dye or a white dye or a lockpick, or a ruby or sapphire or ecto, it was like okay. Very nice. I’ll add that gold to my stack of other unused gold. The only real question was to sell it unidentified or go for the wisdom title….take about grind in Guild Wars 1.

Drops in Guild Wars 1 sucked badly, unless you were solo farming the underworld with a rit, or solo farming vatteirs, or solo farming undead outside Bergen Hot Springs.

Just playing the game…the drops sucked…it’s good that I wasn’t playing for loot.

I don’t play GW1 much anymore, just hang out in JQ really.

Still, I did play HM. Completed all of my Vanquisher titles in fact. Did some of the HM farming once upon a time. Drops still sucked. Sure, Ii got more purples and golds than other people I played with, but I had no luck with stats. Yes, you get Source of Wisdom if you maxed your rare IDing (think I’m at Oracle, wasn’t going to bother buying rares just to finish it), and sure you could salvage mods. Although mods on grapes were rarely perfect, and selling most of them was a lesson in boredom. So, merch food, since I have/had no desire to loiter in Kamadan trying to sell mods.

I did specifiy ‘normal’ foes. DoA, UW, and FoW are elite areas, they are not ‘normal’ foes. Although I really had no luck for gems in DoA. Only ever got them from the section chests. Yes, anytime I did UW I walked away with at least one ecto, and 3-4 shards every FoW run, but these went towards like 6 different sets of FoW armor… I didn’t sell them to people.

I’ve used over 1000 Zkeys (what else was I going to use balth faction for? Amber and jade don’t sell that well, I had my armors, and those titles were done shrug). I got 1 Voltaic spear, q13, which I sold pretty quick – caster modded of course. Beyond that it was mainly tomes, sweets, etc. Most of which I used for my own purposes. Yes, I got a lot of weapons, but again mods aren’t a great market and without a low req or a great skin = merch food.

That said, I don’t have any more of an issue making gold in Gw2 than I did in Gw1, and I’m not a grinder nor am I any type of expert trader either. The only thing that I would say I got easily more of in GW1 was materials. My materials tab was always packed….cloth, leather, dust, planks. Even the stuff I needed to ‘trade up’ for: damask, ink, deld steel, etc. Never had any shortage of materials, which made it very simple to get all my elite armors.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

I salvage oodles of stuff, so I only stop to merch 2-3 time when clearing a map. I don’t spend more time merching in GW2 than I did in GW1 really. Salavaging is my go to method of clearing inventory, unless its non-salvagable junk, which I can sell at a merchant in a single click. shrug
