Hello All

Just a quick question, Are people still running Orr for gear now that there is a gear treadmill?

Even tho I am completely again’st what A net have done, and now there is gear checks to get into the new dungeon are people still doing Orr?

I am not even 80 yet because I didn’t see a rush to reach max level but with everyone doing the new dungeon and there is progression, am i wasting my time?

I bought this game for the reason there is no rush. I have taken my time and it was amazing. I am a WoW player and to play a MMO where there is no rush was superb for me. But A net screwed that up.

Anyone that replies to this and says there ain’t gear checks is talking bull. My server there turning down players that ain’t full exotic and there is barely any level 1 of FoTM.

Anyone that says thats what guilds are for, well I put it this way. I been to 4 different servers and i can barely find a guild that does Dungeons. There either SPvP or WvWvW

The dungeons I am seeing is in LA pugs and again there is next to none level 1 runs. Think what it is going to be like when I finally get to 80. Only 57 atm.

Sorry what started off a question has turned in a rant.

Thank you

I, for one, still do Arah runs for the gear. I need about 4 more runs before I get my leggings. Also I’ve got quite a few friends that run it every now and then, but even before FotM I had trouble getting a group that was successful. Now, it’s impossibru…

The answehr is NO,
Orr is a dead-map now. Ok it was undead before. But now you can try to do dynamic group events alone if you like.

I liked Orr, not for the gear or the loot or the farming but because I found it interesting and I loved the events and the urgency.
So I used to play there for fun.

To answer your question, it is dead now.
You need a lot of players in Orr to do the Temple events, or even just the out of the way ones.
I died horribly too many times to count in the last couple of days trying to get Arah with 10 players.
Lets not even talk about the Zhol Quaffa event I tried to 2 man

Orr is dead right now for alot of reasons. All of them the fault of ArenaNet, but not all of them bad.

It was the only place with pure level 80 enemies before Southsun, so soloing without any level scaling demanded you go there, now it doesn’t. The mob density is insane. Alot of CC. And same as always, people don’t feel rewarded enough for the group events.

And with Plinx (thankfully) nerfed, people just don’t see the need to farm there as opposed to doing another zone.

Orr still needs fixing though, or else people won’t go back.

i don’t really go for armor much, because i plan to do dailies as much as possible to get karma jugs for my secondary, instead. i still go for the loot and the easy money, but that’s about it.

awaiting the next new farm of the month.

next question would be. How do I get level 80 exotics if no one is doing the Orr Runs?

is it just crafting then?

Cheers for replying. Atm I thought it was pretty much Orr with no one doing the other dungeons since the new patch. At least that is the case on my server.

Nevermind I uninstalled the game. I can’t be arsed with another Gear grind game. Just gonna stick with WoW.

GW2 was my relaxing MMO with no worries of rushing etc. But A Net screwed that up.

Thank you all for taking the time to answer the post and IF A Net see this. Good job turning your back on what you were selling.

Even though this this gent opted to uninstall the game, as someone who is just about to hit level 80, I’d still like an answer to this question. I don’t know much about the 80 exotic grind. = ) Thanks in advance!

People never farmed Orr for gear, they farmed it for drops. Best Option for getting exotics for yourself is still running dungeons or simply buying them from the TP.

Or just do daily and monthly achievements for karma jugs, use them with karma boosters and you get enough karma to get at least 2 temple exotics a month. Hardest part will be to get to uncontested temples.

I got to 130k Karma before the weekend event… now Plinx is nerfed it kust makes it harder to get Karma armour :-(

And as for loot!!!! Orr loot is Garbage now compared to the new dungeon, so just farm that and salvage for materials :-)

Lyssia Iceblood of Gandara – I sometimes win… but not often :-(

fotm is so much more rewarding than anything else in the game that it’s not worth the time or effort to do anything but fotm.

this is as intended.

ANet pretty much decided that all previous PvE content (dungeons, DE’s, etc) wasn’t worth a kitten so they decided to add the gear treadmill instead and make all of it obsolete.

Don’t focus yourself blindly on the exotics nor the ascended gear and play for fun.

If you want the orr gear, gather up a party of at least 5 (a group by event standards) and try the events. While it might seem alot harder to do with less people, this is usually nonsense. Dwayna is possible with 5 people at the very least. Lyssa defenitely isnt, Grenth might be possible.

It’s hard to play and in a sense just as hard as running explorable dungeons however.

That, or it’s either scale of 10 people scale of 15 people . After that it simply scales up.
Of course most people want more and more people for Balthazar or these events because they believe they can overshoot the top scaling mechanic (or they don’t understand scaling).

I would give it a shot with a guild group. If it’s too hard, try 10 or 15. After that there’s probably scaling up until like 50-75 people so getting more players doesn’t help you all that much.

The only thing bringing more people does is there is more room for error. (with 30 people 1 mistake is only 1/30th of the teams power where with 5 its 1/5th.)

The whole grind issue and needing ascended or exotic gear feels to me like wrong advertising. Don’t grind ascended gear now, do it when you have full exotic. Don’t grind exotic, play around with yor masterwork, and at some point you have enough and will want to get a “LFG Altar of Betrayal-chain” going.

The power difference is not worth your time. Have fun before having to grind.
The journey is more important than the goal. And you don’t want to get frustrated with the game.

Also farming works best when you do multiple areas. I hadn’t visited Ascalon Catacombs in ages and got golds and a exotic as a drop with my lvl 79 elementalist. (for example)

Chilling out, killing champions (chance to drop exotics more), playing together (very important), etc, is what makes this game still a blast to play. If you play alone, you’ll have a hard time in the areas. Also true if you want to rush to the end. I think of it as your generic side scrolling platformer where mario tries to avoid all mobs instead of killing them. Yeah, that is tough.

Why people play the least fun way they can come up with, (and complain about it..) I don’t even.. I .. sigh……. It is just making me sad. =( Don’t do it.

Better still they nerfed one of the better (quicker) farming chains in Orr. So long Plinx and thanks for all the fish.

It seems Anet wants you to grind your gear tread mill in Fractals and Fractals only.

Enjoy.

took arah a couple hours back (12pm) with around 30ish people
then successfully did grenth at 1am with a dozen

tbh i dont really see the issue here… the map is populated, you wont find 80man zergs that lag like 3 jormags , where you can only get tags by AOEing the spawns, but i wont miss those

Where is all this gear treadmill talk coming from?

They added a new tier, yes, but so far they’ve only added a ring and back pieces, you’re all acting like there is a whole new set of gear out there right now from helm to feet, and this is not the case.. yet.

Except you just showed that you know there will be, so you just answered your own question. And infusions are also being set up as their own seperate treadmill of steadily increasing power.

IMO thats more to do with people being sick to death(ha) of Orr and the Fractles being new content.

You do Orr because it’s there, and to make money. It’s not about getting gear, but building wealth.

The OP is lvl 57. If you are reasonably good with money, you’ll be able to afford half or more of an ascended set from the TP. You could, along the way, get plenty of tokens to buy dungeon gear. You will have enough karma to buy a couple pieces of temple gear.

Go farm if you want more/better than the basics.

The Orr zones are good farming, but they are gloomy and unpleasant. They very much embody the idea that if travel is slow and difficult, it makes the game seem bigger and more heroic. Get to 70ish and go see for yourself.

Good thing you don’t need groups to do map completion.

(Not to mention you likely haven’t got all the WvW zones yet)>

Dwayna is possible with 5 people at the very least. Lyssa defenitely isnt, Grenth might be possible.

Dwayna and Grenth can be duo’d. Balthazar can be done with around 5. Lyssa requires all the events to be held, which can be defended by 1 person each, so 5 minimum. Melandru needs around 5, just because of the transformation it forces on you.

I’d say they’re all easier with less people, as long as the people you’re with are competent. When there’s less people, the damage/levels/number of enemies are reduced. For example, on Grenth, only 1-3 shades spawn when there’s less than 5 people people, compared to the 10 that usually spawn when there’s a zerg.

I do. Guess what? Anet didnt mess anything up. Stop being a baby about it.

I will still get rares and exotics. I will still push for a legendary. People are still in orr and in all the exp and story modes of other dungeons. Plenty of people are running level 1 fractals. No one on my server is doing gearchecks. I did the first 2 levels of fractal below level 80 in level 60 greens.

Stop whining and play the kitten game.
