When they get it they want what they been doin back. HoT is a perfect example of this the game has completely changed. Its almost like a new game now (which if anyone pays attention) That is what Anet has said. In an interview they were asked if there will be a GW3. They said no they want GW2 to change over time it will be like a new game by adding and removing content as they progress.

HoT is the first layer of some of these changes. Will we have to wait for another expansion? Probably not another living story will do great with this idea. The dragons are the focus of expansions maybe we will get a new dragon later in the living story without another expansion.

Now the people want change but the thing is this. Several people complain there is not enough to do in GW2 I’m bored no endgame etc. Finally Anet changes that and gives us things to do and a new end game. New skills, new weapons, new sub professions etc.
But there is a catch, you have to earn them. Now instead of people enjoying the new content. They complain wow now I have to grind for it? There is a time gate on this wtf?

This causes them again to lose interest in the game, because they have to earn it. Several people like that all they can think of is how many Items can I get how much gold can I horde?

Yes HoT is different from the base game and the base game is different from other games (some similarities of course). The thing is why not just enjoy what you are doing? Why does it have to be a grind to you? Masteries are account bound why not take out an alt and do something different?

I am not that great of a player myself, but I really think HoT is makin me into a better player. I still have to figure out the pocket raptors, rolling devils and especially the mushrooms in a fight with my thief. That will come over time or they may nerf them a bit (cause man they hit hard).

All games are goin to have bugs that’s what the in game bug reports are for. It will not happen that second but if no one reports them they can’t get fixed, and it may take longer than expected to fix it.

Relax its not a race there is no I beat the game. This is not a game like that. It is a game to give people a place to do things they cannot do in real life through an avatar. It is a game of challenge a game of continuation and a game to escape for a while.

Guild wars is still going after over 10 years if that gives anyone any indication of the longevity of these games then GW2 will last just as long the game is not going anywhere soon. If you worry it will end up like City of Heroes it won’t. They had trouble with the other Super Hero franchises saying some characters resemble theirs too much. Even though it was how the player set them up and the developer had nothing to do with those creations. I see it in GW2 all the time but this is not a super hero game.

If you cannot get something done today or this minute you will get it done eventually do something else for a while. There is plenty of time the game will constantly change over time but that’s what should happen.

Those changes are not just additions to the game but actual changes in how we play the game.

The thing is different crowd want different things, harcore players complaimed there were not enough hardcore content and casuals are happy with the gamw so they arent complaining. So Anet added hardcore which result in compelet oppisite, nothing can please everyone and we just have to accept that.

Some must fight so that all may be free.

As awesome as a crossover with DC sounds they’d need to raise the level cap into the billions since Superman can bench press the Earth for five days without sunlight and take 10 supernovas’ worth of force to the face and there are villains who are able to hurt him without Kryptonite or red sun radiation like Darkseid, Doomsday, and Mongul.

I don’t think I could do all of that grinding.

First of, the weakest class right now is thief, so the mobs might or might not be nerfed but it’s unlikely that it’s because they’re overall really hard – they’re hard for thieves.
Second: Equip Shortbow and Daggerstorm. Use the first against all of them, the second against the raptors. Stay out of red cirles and try to get the rolling devils (that’s these stealth thingys, right?) out of their smoke field and then you’re good =)

On your post: I’m a wvw player – I can do PvE and am fine with that but my love is wvw. So I didn’t really need the expansion- I was happy with how things were. That’s probably why I’m not disappointed in the expansion, but I am a bit disapointed that there has been no balance since June and also wvw is on the brink – because of HoT. Wvw is a complex topic, so it will be hard to figure out what exactly is needed to make it “good” again. Most complaints I have seen are about balance lately. And since wvw is a mess I am in PvE mostly anyway, so I can’t really complain about Proofs of heroics anymore Problem solved, right?

Daggerstorm is useless because you get focused with it and even pocket raptors can live through a full casting of it. It would be a great skill to take out necro minions and mesmer illusions in PvP but…they’re too tanky for that and it’s inferior to the daredevil elite anyway.

Thief is all about proper timing, scorpion wire works to focus down a single raptor though shortbow 2 works to bleed, disengage, repeat. The frog people in the Verdant brink chokepoint were brutal at first but then with sword/dagger and focusing the leaper it gets easier. Haven’t tried staff there yet but I’m sure the weakness from staff 2 would come in handy as well as the staff 4 blind.

Good to know – now I wonder how I killed all that raptors so easily. And I do wonder why I never used it on mesmer clones – oh wait, I just have 8k hours on thief =)

The challenge is no problem for me at all. What is a problem is all the gating of everything. From character progression, content progression to loot (hello collections). Gw 2 was an effort for reward game, its now the traditional time investment mmo system. This may please the hardcore crowd (not the challenge kind, but the loot farm kind) with too much time on their hands, who love endless repetitiveness of everything for loot. But not the people who actually like unforced gameplay (like quality singleplayer games). This is why im slowly turning back towards singleplayer games and playing the vanilla game.

You can add new content without removing the old. Perhaps one day Arenanet will figure that out. We’ll be playing something else by then of course.

Chyanne, I think you’ve failed to see the obvious:

1. People who were happy with GW2 before HoT didn’t come here to complain about it.

2. Those formely happy players are the people who are now posting here that they want the game changed back to the way they liked it.

3. There were a lot of people who were quite happy with the way GW2 was before HoT.

Guild wars 2 was marketed as a non traditional MMO with strong emphasis on not having to grind to progress, which created a laid back casual community.

So of course the majority of the community is going to be upset or not like certain aspects of an expansion that goes against everything Arena Net built on vanilla GW2.

I personally don’t mind too much as I played grinder games, but I see how mass majority of GW2 vanilla community would dislike how heart of thorns was set up. Gw2 now feels like every other generic MMO on the market, especially with it’s unique content (world vs world) pretty much being destroyed and empty now.

Hopefully Anet can fix some of these problems, Gw2 is still a very fun game and I love the action combat.

Again all you all are saying is this we want our kind of change if its not exactly what we want we will complain.

Instead of embracing the changes that people have asked for whether or not they are what everyone asked for or not you cry foul. At least Anet is trying new things some work some don’t.

About GW2 vanilla that was gone ages ago when the living story started. Most do not see that. Vanilla in a game is kinda silly its saying if you change anything we will cry about it.

WvW has changed from what I understand I do not play that, but why would it be so hard to do again its the players fault for not embracing the changes. In fact it made it harder to take places and easier to defend them. Isn’t that what people wanted instead of easily getting zerged out of it?

Most of the things they have done is to try to make it a bit harder because people complain this game is sooooo easy. Some even find HoT easy that’s fine I don’t and many others will agree with me.

When GW2 began it was hard to some people especially in Orr. Because of complainers they reduced the number of foes there, and made it easier to navigate. That made it too easy and boring. Wvw the same servers always seemed to win mainly cause they had the numbers.

Like When GW2 began you had to rethink how you do things. Now you have to do that again. I am working on my masteries yes it will take time, xp , and mastery points. Does that seem too hard for me? Not really just have to do it. I already have all nine professions with their full elites. I have full gliding now. the rest are hit and miss.

If anyone is goin to play GW2 they better expect changes or they will always be disappointed in it.

And remember folks, be sure to give feedback to Anet so they can know what you think works and doesn’t work as long as that feedback is completely positive and doesn’t include any complaints.

I found GW1 incredibly strong, and there is so much that GW2 was lacking from the start to let it keep up with it´s parent, but every game has it´s irks and flaws in the beginning.

WvW and the idea of changeable world made me quickly jump on the hype train when it was released.
I was a happy PvE player who really enjoyed the events of Vanilla GW2. Not because they were faceroll easy, but because they were exciting and fun. But after some months of gaming joy, I began to realize that it could not deliver all of it´s promises. That is perfectly normal with computer games, but look at how long the list is:
*Dynamic world events that could wrestle control over cities from the players were cancelled before the game even started. They had a brief and glorious return in ls1, but that was scrapped. The world stays so static that you can visit NPCs that vanished or died years ago, and Orr for example has not changed one bit. I don´t know if it is possible or sustainable to make such things in a running MMOs, but if you can´t do it, don´t promise it.
*WvW is dying. Don´t deny it, everyone who plays on the lower servers knows that it´s true. It is not dying because people hate it, it is dying because Anet did not deliver what players wanted, but gave us maps that are PvEcentric.
*GvG was never supported until recently with guild halls. I did not even GvG and find this to be wrong and a missed opportunity.
*The cap of dailies is plain stupid. A new player will never catch up to a 28K veteran that continues to play. Accept it. It will N E V E R happen, and everyone above the age of 11(the minimum age of GW2) knows that. That reason for the daily cap is plain wrong.
*Laugahably bad and neglected leaderboards. In DAOC, you could be proud of your guild, people knew and respected your band. In GW2, I don´t even know the names of prominent WvW, PvP or PvE guilds. I am at a point where I don´t even care anymore for that honestly, but I advocated for this for years. Give your guilds a face and recognition! But no, Anet just wants to highlight a group of PvP aces to a small audience because the sniff money in that.
If you are behind the best by more than 10%, you are counted as having 90% on the AP leaderboard. Huh? I am not a computer geek, but i have seen better and more detailed lists in the 15+ year old DAOC.
*Repeated content and events. If you don´t have time for events, do do events. Copying the Halloween event piece by piece because the guys at Anet were busy to make SuperMarioWars2 with HoT was a plain slap in the face, even though people were so hungry for content that they even swallowed that toad.

These are just some of the problems you encounter in Vanilla GW2, and with HoT, things turned in a complete opposite direction from a very promising start. I realize that the tides will probably turn in the favor of people like me again but up until now, I am stuck in Super Mario Wars 2 if I want to keep on playing.

And on a sidenote, I entered HoT with my Mesmer yesterday to get Chronomancer running, and only died when I did something stupid. The funny thing is that I play Mesmer only once in a blue moon so that I basically don´t have a clue about him, but situational awareness does the trick most of the time. So HoT will not necessarily turn you into a better player, it just causes you to pay attention.
