People who go AFK during events
if they dident use any skills or move they would have been kicked.
Well maybe can stand totaly still if your ranger pet fights unsure about that.
There are systems in place to prevent people from being rewarded for events they didn’t participate in, such as requiring people to tag enemies, timing out participation, etc. It doesn’t force everyone to pull equal weight, but, generally, you can’t just show up, go AFK while others take care of you, and then get a reward for it.
It’s not a perfect system, but it’s something that has to be tweaked carefully. As an example, a while back they made the system more aggressive about disqualifying you for event participation, and I remember having trouble if I got knocked off a ledge in Verdant Brink or had to respawn, and was suddenly out of range for the event. If it’s too lax, some people will get rewarded without much effort, but you want to be generous to the people who are trying to participate as well.
There should be a way that Anet can kick them from the instatance if they fail to move during a fight.
You’re saying they afk, yet are the first to run to the chest…so in that case, I assume they aren’t afk…just standing and waiting? if anet implemented something like this wouldn’t those people just strafe 6 inches during the fight and not be kicked? >.>
Don’t agree with this idea. It would make people stop AFK’ing. But it would be a huge inconvenience for everyone.
E.g. dragon stand events take 1.5 hours to complete, if you need to make a coffee… and then suddenly get kicked, can’t get back into that instance.
You are still moving about. When they fail to move at all. Ranged characters are still moving. I mean people who do not react when enemies come near them.
Until contribution actually matters, there will always be a way to abuse the system. You can’t stop AFKers with simple tricks because those intentionally abusing it will simply find a way, like using a macro or running into a wall. The problem with making contribution matter however is that damage is king. Those running high personal defense or playing poorly would find that they have little contribution. It would also promote selfish play when other key roles are required. The other problem is that collecting this data, especially for a large number of players, can be expensive. WildStar for example shows a scoreboard of damage done, taken and healing after events.
Those AFKing right in your face at events are simply griefers, not because they’re AFK, but because they’re scaling up the event, meaning everyone else has to do more. AFK outside of the event, then tag at the last minute for full credit and no one will even notice.
If you stand AFK during the final phase, and do not participate, you do not get to loot the boss chest. Anyone can loot bandit chests if you have keys for them. The game already has that solved for you. They are not “leeching” since they get nothing.
Maybe they are just trying to get map completion or and have things IRL that are more important (like feeding their children or reading them a book). They may have participated in every attack up to that point, and now have to change a diaper (or go to the bathroom themselves) during the final boss phase.
Hard to say someone is just leeching off the “entire” event unless you stood next to the m the entire time just to “prove” to yourself that they are dead weight.
I don’t disagree that some people will do as little as possible (or nothing) to try and be lazy for free stuff, but there isn’t any way for Anet to solve that, which is why doing nothing means you can’t get the boss chest.

Your statement aint true anymore mate, damage aint the only thing to get contribution anymore.

General
Supporting your allies will now contribute toward earning rewards for killing enemies and damaging event bosses. The actions listed below now cause a percentage of the target ally’s damage dealt for the next several seconds to also count toward your participation. In addition to that, damaging an enemy’s defiance bar will also grant you some participation toward receiving rewards from that enemy. In order to discourage AFKing with boon-applying auras, you must still be actively attacking targets to receive rewards from them.
Applying boons to an ally (small percentage).
Removing conditions from an ally (small percentage).
Reviving an ally (large percentage).
Healing an ally (percentage scales based on how much healing is given).
Basically every MMO suffers from this and no MMO has a solution which doesn’t treat legit players having a short, necessary break, as collateral damage.
Anti-cheats only go so far, clearly the’AFKers’ the OP’s taking about weren’t AFK at all, they were simply watching YouTube while waiting for the boss to die.
Accept it, it’s a fact of life, there are always leechers and no MMO designer has found a solution which entirely eliminates them.
Basically, I worry about myself. Other people I let worry about themselves and don’t bother with negative emotion over something that’s just not worth it. I really don’t care that much if people are getting or not getting a pixel in a video game.
