Perpetual bar brawl, what happened to it ?
No official statement, but has most likely been put on the back burner to meet the deadline, like Polymock, the shooting range and what ever the hell the Grove gets. I think the Bar brawl is going to be a Charr thing, though.
It is in Hoelbrok. Talk to a guy with flags over his head down beyond the statue of Jora.

Are you talking about the Keg Brawl? I played this in Beta and had some fun with it. You’ll find it on the frozen lake in Hoelbrak.
nope, not keg brawl. we are talking about bar brawl, like in: going into a bar, take a chair, and smack another dude in the face with the chair.

Latinkuro.9420 is talking about what was mentioned in this interview : http://www.gamereactor.eu/articles/4160/Guild+Wars+2+interview/
And if someone does not have the time to read it all, here’s the most interesting part :
Alright. Because I was thinking about, you brought up the bar brawl, for example Funcom had something like that planned for Age of Conan, and I’m not sure that made it in at launch. Is there any risk that something similar would happen to the activities? Or is it an integral part of the game experience in itself?
John: These are getting built into the game itself, they will be there at launch. They are not something that we will tack on later, they are part of the cities.
Eric Flannum: One of the things I can say is that we tend to, you know, we were pretty tight-lipped about the game for a long time and we tend not to talk about things unless they are actually in the game. So when we talk about activities, like when we talk about the bar brawl, or the shooting gallery, because they are actually in the game you can go in and experience them right now. And so there is actually very little chance that most things we talk about are not going to make it into the game just because we run out of time or anything like that. Because, as I said, we tend not to talk about things unless we’re very, very certain that we can do them. Certain as in they are in already.
It is sad that bar brawl with the other 28-29 activities suffered from bad luck.
A number of the activities/mini-games are things we decided to table for a while in favor of focusing on features and areas we felt were more important for the game. That being said, if you like activities, make sure to stop in and visit during the big Halloween festivities running from Oct 22nd-Nov1st!
In the short-term we’re currently focused on adding a massive wealth of additional content and features for players to do in the game using the players core skill-bar, which you’ll start seeing in the Shadow of the Mad King update in October as well as our massive November release.
Long term we’ll absolutely be adding more activities as well, but we want to make sure we’ve got loads of stuff to do at level 80 in PvP, WvW, and PvE using your characters core skill-bar first and foremost, and we’re dedicating our focus in that area. Down the road, we’ll continue to expand on the scope of activities available in the game as well.
I’m really excited to hear that, Colin!!

Thank you! Hopefully these will improve the economy as well…
I’m smelling a repeat of Guild Wars Factions with most the expansion max level! :P (Which was a good thing because life starts at level 20 in GW1…)
massive november update? kitten YOU COLIN, HYPING ME UP SO EARLY.
EDIT: the censored word is hardly censor-worthy, this makes my post sound much more insulting than it is lol.
Great news. I’m tired of only having the same few dynamic events in Orr to do over and over again at level 80. (It is still really fun leveling my toons up to 80 though, but pretty soon I’ll have five 80’s.) I’m looking forward to anything new for my level 80 characters.

What does he mean by specifying the player’s “core skill bar.” As opposed to what?
I believe he’s referring to your natural class/profession abilities rather than using special bundles or vehicle abilities.
oh god what i just read ?!?
I’m really excited to hear about this november update. Halloween already has me pretty giddy. Can’t wait to see what’s going down next month.
Colin what can we expect from this november update? new content? in wich form? anything we may know already?
Crystal Desert from november update please

What? core skill-bar what does that mean? Many fights including the grande finale involve morphing that skill-bar into other things. I find this comment very vague and I bit frustrating but massive November release sounds very promising
If you’re telling us that the focus is creating new content to do with the max level builds we worked hard to create instead of mini-games I can greatly appreciate that.

Correct, yes, that’s what we’re saying =)
This sounds amazing!
Oh yeah.. Arena Net know how to please!

It kind of saddens me that mini games will take a while to become available. I looked forward to participate in a little bar brawl after a day of killing Risen But oh well, I still have a lot of things to do that I enjoy, and it is good to know that there are some interesting and new things planned for Halloween and in November.
I can wait a long time for mini games, but more level 80 content? This is going to be awesome! Thank you, Colin (and the rest of Anet.)

More stuff to do at 80 sounds great! I do want the activities to make it in game soon too, I am a lover of fluff! I also want player housing badly.
Maybe we’ll see a lv 85 area… we all know that certain monsters and npcs in wvw are above lv 80. Will we see pure lv 80+ maps?
It is hard to contain my excitement for the Halloween event, let alone some huge content release in November.
can’t say i’d mind if one of the live teams worked on the minigames meanwhile :P
“loads of stuff to do at level 80 in PvP, WvW, and PvE using your characters core skill-bar first and foremost, "
I must say I’m still a bit confused about this… Does this mean more content that would use the existing skill-bar OR a way to further advance your existing skills? IMO the biggest problem with motivation and longevity of GW2 at the moment is the way skill advancement slows down and pretty much stops after a while…
I’d love to see a return of some kind of GW1 skill-hunting or alternatively “weapon leveling” such as they had in Borderlands 1. Also, alternative WvW xp (such as they had in DAoC and WAR) would be most welcome, if for cosmetics only.
agreed. this is ideal. because of how awesome keg brawl is, i’ve been saving it for that day when i ‘run out fo things to do at 80’. after 600 hours i don’t see that day coming any time soon.
Minigames are cool though im much more exited about halloween/november update :O
I hope the halloween events are gonna be great, but probably will have problems since everyone wants to do it at the same time, I hope anet can cope with these.
Sad that they put it the week just before my exams. They should’ve extended it to 1 week before hwe’en to 1 week after.

A developers underlying game design philosophy is only credible if they walk the walk. Saying that “we only talk about features that are actually in game” and then saying “we decided to focus on something else instead” essentially renders their original philosophy invalid. For the record I agree with this new direction, but their credibility takes a hit, IMO.
Thanks Colin. I am real excited about what you guys have planned for Halloween. Could we get some more hints today? Please, please. I can’t wait till tomorrow.
Ok fine. I will wait. But when will the details about November be out?

well to be fair, they never really talked about it as much as they said “there will be plenty of side activities”. granted, they have yet to deliver on it, but bar brawl was more of an example of something that could be there than a promise of a feature.

It was more than a promise.
John: These are getting built into the game itself, they will be there at launch. They are not something that we will tack on later, they are part of the cities.
But ColinJohanson already said it is something they have finally decided to wait on. Maybe they ran into different kind of bugs that would have taken too long to fix and they did not want to include them when the game launched. Or maybe there is another reason.
All I hope is that mini games will not be a feature that will only be include in the game in 3 years.
wish it was November. Got a heap of friends who have stopped playing since hitting 80, geared up and map complete. Just not enough to do at 80.
Hopefully this draws us back in.

If you add a realm rank system similar to DAoC, you will hands down have the best game to date.

Saw that the achievements for bar brawl were added and after a quick search it seems it dates back to December.
But unfortunately, there’s no way of participating in this right now….any news that I might have missed ?

Lol, even still it’s interesting to look back and see what direction the devs wanted to take with their content a few months ago.

So there was a chance I could of been able to beat people over the head with a chair? Now I’m sad. Maybe they’ll add a costume that can wield chairs one day.
Reminds me a bit of AoC and their promises of bar fights.
I hope they at least put in Polymock or something like that eventually.
They seem to holding off all the good stuff until an expansion or something. Meanwhile we get Living FedEx Story.

Considering that all that stuff (buildings, NPCs, etc.) has been there since launch, that’s an almost pathetically stupid decision to hold it off that long.

I was interested in the fights with your mini’s in an arena in LA but was also wondering when the bar fights would be implemented. Strange that it is still not implemented.
ColinJohanson says “we decided to table for a while in favor of focusing on features and areas we felt were more important for the game.” but that was 5 months ago and those features that are more important, see for example this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Guild-System-Improvements/page/4 have not all (most not) yet been implemented.
But we did get a new island. Personally I would think a new island is less important then even the mini-games but it is a lot more work.
Not that I did not want the new island but I don’t really understand the priority’s.
What is there to do in Southsun Cove though? It’s wasted space. There are no dungeons, no major world events, just repeatable events and some crafting nodes. It’s unfinished, and I’d have preferred that waited until after the main cities were complete. Divinity’s Reach is beautiful, but I need more reason to go into it.
The cities need more culture, more than people standing around looking for groups. These minigames would give culture to each region and give players a nice escape outside of dungeons and world events.

Hehehe, well I’m always interested in what happened to features that I saw in a trailer or mentioned in an article, that I aways wanted to try out or own.
But since I saw that they bothered to add the achievements without adding a way to obtain them, I find this rather curious.
This reminds me of Clay Bricks in GW1…
As for Southsun…it’s desperately empty and dull. Maybe I don’t hang out there enough to see it’s real potential. It did introduce something new (passion fruit/flower, minipets, 2 JP) but those things didn’t need a whole island.
The events are similar to those you can find elsewhere and the rewards are the same.
(edited by RedStar.4218)
Southsun Cove is indeed empty but what I meant to say is that I do not dislike getting new content like an island but the priority / order seems a bit strange.
I agree that the other city’s should get some more to pull people. All the city’s are big but you only get there when creating a new char. After that LA will be your home city. And of all he city’s Divinity’s Reach still has the most people, the other city’s are empty.
New mini-pets on the island?? You can get them in another way then the gem-store?
This is one of the fine examples of Anet having a great creative team that comes up with some awesome ideas, but they lack either the programming talent or manpower to see it through.
I don’t know how big the programming team is, but they really need to take some of that gem store money and hire more programmers. The content is coming it slower then a snail since the holiday events ended.
