Personal Merchant Express: only usable by me - why?
PERSONAL merchant express. I REALLY hope this is a troll thread.
Unstable Shield, Unstable Light
I spent 200G on this because I thought it would be great to pop a merchant whenever I wanted, but then I found out that nobody else can use it. It’s the same thing with the Personal Trader Express. So now I never even want to use either of them because I don’t want to troll everybody into thinking they also can use it. If they aren’t going to let anybody else use the merchant/agent, can they at least make it invisible to them or remove the icon for them?
PERSONAL means just that, it is yours and yours only, very evident.

It is NOT VERY EVIDENT to everybody else when I pop it out, that’s the point. Every time I pull it out in WvW I get like 10 people that try to use it and can’t.
Seems like they should have made the personal version of the merchant express be visible to the summoning player only.
Funny, because I know if I didn’t summon it, I can’t use it. I think the problem lies with the people trying to use it or within yourself by thinking you are trolling when you summon it.

I wish everyone could use them :P
So… You know they have a summoned merchant everyone can use, right?
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but you abuse the privilege.

Upon buying said items it is VERY EVIDENT that it is your own personal item not usable by others and it is this last part you are complaining about which you very clearly state that “I thought it would be great to pop a merchant whenever I wanted, but then I found out that nobody else can use it. It’s the same thing with the Personal Trader Express. So now I never even want to use either of them”, so, you shouldn’t have bought them in the first place if you now have this attitude about something that clearly states as being a PERSONAL USE ITEM. I know you’re upset/angry, but, it was an error on your part that could have been avoided from jump.

And this^^^^

If I come upon a summoned merchant or other NPC, and try to use it, and it doesn’t allow me to, I don’t think to myself: Geez, what a Troll whoever summoned this is. I just move on. Probably, most people feel the same way. I wouldn’t worry about what other people think, in the game…or elsewhere. =)
Would be funny if the merchant did a ‘Talk to the hand’ emote to everyone else who tries to use it

I just use mine whenever I need it. It’s not going to kill someone to lose two seconds checking it when I summon it.

I think most people are used to people summoning a merchant express, which everyone CAN use. I don’t think it’s unlikely that a lot of people would try to use someone’s personal merchant as the OP describes.
I tend to agree with the OP. The merchant shouldn’t be visible to other people if they can’t use it, and it’s silly that they can’t use it in the first place. I further can see how the OP would interpret “Personal” to mean “my own merchant that I can use over and over again.” Maybe the item description should be more clear, as well.
PERSONAL means just that, it is yours and yours only, very evident.
Let me blow your mind for a second here: Did you know that the PERSONAL modifier can be applied to some, all or none of the aspects of the item and is entirely the prerogative of the game designers? For example, PERSONAL could just as easily refer to the fact that only the owner of the item can summon his PERSONAL merchant. It’s completely reasonable to assume that in some alternate universe the PERSONAL adjective in the item name means that only you can summon your PERSONAL merchant, but that others may use it. The PERSONAL flag is not inappropriate in this situation, even when others can use your PERSONAL merchant.
So no, when there are multiple reasonable options, it is not evident in the description and it is not reasonable to assume that one is true.
Semantics bickering aside, the merchant being invisible is lame. He should have a witty one-liner for everyone that tries to do business with him but isnt the actual owner. If people complain about spending the gold in vain maybe adjust the tooltip to make that clearer.
The real issue is that you can’t use both merchant and trader at the same time.
maybe it could say"no soup for you!"
or “no lemon grass soup for you”
troll item huh….. mmmm…. might be worth buying

- Why is somebody’s PERSONAL stuff being shown to me? Huge icon on the map that looks exactly like merchant. Nope, PERSONAL merchant.

It is in GW2.

Ho boy, okay since you’ve clearly processed absolutely nothing of what I said let me dumb this down for you a bit.
The adjective ‘personal’ can refer to more than one thing about the merchant express item. Because of this fact, you cannot reasonably assume that it should apply to whether or not the merchant, once placed, will be usable by others. As I’ve demonstrated, personal can mean a lot of different things, not necessarily having anything to do with who can actually use the merchant once placed.
To further add to the confusion, the placed merchant is completely indistinguishable from any other merchant visually in-game, on the minimap or otherwise.
Hopefully this clears this clears things up for you. The issue is that whether or not it’s like this in GW2, it is not made known BEFORE you buy the item and find out for yourself.
I love this forum.
