Dear Sir or Madam,

I greatly enjoy the game “Guild Wars 2,” thank you for offering such a masterpiece for free! I have played it for almost a year now, and recently purchased the expansion “Heart of Thorns,” which I am pleased with as well! There is one matter that upsets me: the discrepancy that is common between the male and female armor sets.

For a game that seems “progressive” in many ways (e.g. including same-sex couples and having game characters treat male and female player characters equally), I find many of the armor sets “sexist,” for lack of a better word. Some armor sets where I noticed that the female’s set was particularly more revealing than the male’s set are as follows:

Heavy Vigil’s Honor armor
Light Whisper’s Secret armor
Tier 2 light Norn cultural amor
Tier 3 medium Norn cultural armor
Tier 3 heavy Norn cultural armor
Tier 3 light Human cultural armor
Tier 3 medium Human cultural armor
Tier 1 light Sylvari cultural armor
Tier 2 light Sylvari cultural armor
Tier 1 medium Sylvari cultural armor
Tier 1 heavy Sylvari cultural armor

Some of the differences are so large that I would hardly recognize them as the same set of armor!

I understand that Guild Wars 2 is a game, and, therefore, realism is not to be expected at all times, but why would a woman choose to expose her breasts, sides, and legs when that would give her a severe disadvantage in battle? Especially among the heavy armor sets, which are for professions whose role would be on the frontline of a battlefield, and yet many of the female’s armor sets are not aptly described as “heavy.”

I also understand that it would be a time-consuming task to resign any armor set and implement that new design into the game, and much more so for dozens of armor designs; as such, I want to stress that I am not asking you to redesign any existing armor (even though I would love to see some of my favorite armor sets made more modest). All I ask is that you consider this letter, and my plea, when or if you design more armor, and that you make the design for the female’s to match the male’s in style, modesty, and functionality.

Yours faithfully,
AikoKirschtein.6897

I don’t care at all, game isn’t sexist at all, and you should be ashamed for saying all of this. There is so many armors in the game, yet you pick some which are “problematic” for you. Grow up already and next time you are talking, show every armor there is, not just 11 sets, which aren’t bad at all.

ANet needs to give us male armor that shows a lot of skin. If they want, they can go to old armor already in game and release individual pieces that have parts cut out.

Not again a pc demand for censorship. Go play certain asian mmo-s and inform yourself about what is sexist physics/armor design. Btw its obvious this post is written in a way to trigger negative attention with a public forum post. Its full of entitlement.

No, I disagree with this. I am so tired of people asking for game changes because they don’t like them. Maybe there are people out there that like how these armors look for female characters. Maybe even more that do than don’t. I don’t like everything about this game, but I don’t ask for them to be changed, because maybe someone else likes it. Play the game or don’t, but stop trying to tailor make it for YOUR enjoyment.

We can mix and match armor for a reason, you can switch out the “sexy” part of the armor for something you like.

I suggest the future armor design try to keep similar looks for both male and female. Create more revealing male armor instead… this is what we are actually lacking.

We need more skimpy male outfits for balance. Show some chests, backs, shoulders and arms.

You know the two chest pieces that show the most male skin are HEAVY?
How weird is that?

Give us a light chest that is just a strap to hold your back weapon.
Give us a medium chest that’s just a belt or collar.

Now that would be awesome

There’s indeed a huge contrast of quality and creativity between some male armors vs. their female counterparts. Just check :

  • Embroidered light armor : female = nice piece ; male = pajamas
  • Inquest light armor : female = nice revealing vest ; male = another pajamas
  • Whispers light armor : female = revealing ; male = pajamas
  • Winged armor : female = bra ; male = pajamas with rope
  • etc.

There’re far too many light armors that are mere pajamas tops for men while females have more diversity, more style… On the creativity topic, I’ve got far more possibilities with my female toons than male toons because of the “meh, just another pajama with a different pattern on it” look of most tops.

And I’m just talking about light armors ! (even if that icy outfit is just the same… Another pajama under the armor, while the female counterpart shows more skin)

So please ANet, just like other said, there’s no shame in a guy’s skin.

In this thread
>MRAs getting triggered
>People turning it around to demand MOAR MAN V

I agree with you OP, but on a much larger scale.
The tragic thing about GW2 is that for so much work the devs put into being able to mix and match armor sets to get the look you want, so many armors follow the same formula.
>pajamas
>trench coat
>metal skirt, sometimes with tights
>trench coat with some markings on them
>awkward shirt + butt cape combo
>trench coat with some kitten hanging off the sides
>a few kitten good pieces but they’re char exclusive
>trench coat with cleavage

In general, they really need to stop worrying about how many pieces might clip with other sets and start experimenting with entirely different base set ups with their armor ideas, I mean, we don’t even have a true wizard robe yet!(hint: make a cloth trench coat)

Also, to those MRAs getting triggered, calm your sacks! OP clearly stated they didn’t want to redesign existing armor. We already have plenty of armors in game to make your baby girl look like she’s in a fantasy themed porno because for some reason you take joy in others taking one look at you and think, “Yup, that’s a lonely/desperate person.”
