Personal Story Rewards
I doubt it. I brought it up a few months ago and people bashed me for complaining about an event the “great and all powerful Anet” created. There are way, way, way too many white knights in this game for my taste.
Seriously though, the rewards are just complete garbage. The personal story should be more rewarding than any other quests you do.
I’m pretty sure the personal story rewards are supposed to be rewarding in the sense that it’s something you can use, not something you can sell for a lot of money.
And they’re also matched to the level of the instance, not whatever level you happen to be when you do it. The idea being that you do the story instances when you reach the right level.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
The complete reward system is crap because it rewards people completely arbitrarily and not relative to effort or meaning of activities.
They wanted people to feel like heroes. So you save the day in a story quest and get a blue. I mean I buy greens as soon as I hit level 14 and never look back. Who feels rewarded when they get blues at level 15, let alone 55. It’s embarassing and you feel cheated instead of heroic. If the story is supposed to mean something, the rewards tell a different story.
I think it’s one of the biggest problems this game has.
I think one of the biggest problems the game has is all of the people kittening about the rewards.

Don’t you think that if 90% of the playerbase is complaining about the rewards, there might actually be a problem with the rewards?

From what I have seen, nope.
This is a tough one.
The rewards scale to level, but in most ordinary gameplay, it’s very hard to keep up with this, and you will most likely come when you are overleveled and don’t need their crap. The other problem is buffing rewards now is not fair to people that already finished it, unless we give back rewards or allow people to replay it. (poor souls)
Thus, I recommend increasing the achievement point rewards for the story, possibly.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
After completing the story 8 times so far and half way through my ninth, i’ve come to expect little in a way of reward form PS, but i must admit, i was a bit surprised to receive only gathering tools on no less than 3-4 occasions so far. I’m at lvl 48-50 PS atm.
I would have thought with lots of ppl having bought permanent gathering tools…in my case, all 9 of my chars have the full sets….that Anet may have offered an alternate reward for those who do have the perma gathering tools. Or at least make the gathering tools able to sell to vendors at least or something. In my case however, it was a matter of destroying them and not getting a thing for completing these story segments.
For me it seems like they are way under values, i mean really at level 50+ you would use a blue? So many frustrating things at that story level to begin with, Tre-boring telling you over and over “this won’t end well” the total lack of his participation all the while taking credit sheesh! Lessen the pain for altaholics and fix these please, thanks.
the thing is for story rewards its not about the rarity of the item they are skins

I also tend to do Personal Story at the intended level and I have found the stuff useful at that level.
If you wait until you are 80 then I can see how it would seem inadequate.
Mind you this is not just a GW2 issue. Most MMOs I’ve played reward story line missions in poor way. In SWTOR for example this is also the case. Of course the story telling is much better there and you do get many other ways to get gear with tokens along the way, but still the quest rewards are meh.
Part of the issue for me is that it is easy enough to get better leveling gear than the rewards provide. In GW2 you can get green gear as of level 14 and you upgrade it every 6 levels. It’s not that expensive at all on the TP. I just keep my trinkets on blues as I level along. Don’t need better quality till level 80 really. And when I get to level 50 or so I get yellow gear instead of greens and upgrade that about every 10 levels.
So if you work out that that will keep you geared just fine till level 80, you can level relatively easily for not too much gold along the way. Then at 80 you should have enough karma and gold to get exotic gear instantly.
So, with that ease of gearing. I am just not sure why the story lines do not reward better things. It’s sub par. I would say gear skins would even be better. That way you can collect a special gear set together. You know all armour items and all possible weapons. Perhaps you could even give it a small set bonus or effect that makes it even cooler. It doesn’t have to be much, but it would make people feel like they achieved something cool, especially since the end of the story is so anti-climactic.
You know how much it would make a difference if my mesmer could collect this together by completing the story line?
