Why have Story Dungeons & Personal Stories have been abanddoned?

The best way to tell a story is through these 2 contents.
The Living World is the worst way to tell a story due to it’s temporarily nature.
I want more story and adventure at my own time with challenge and I feel that the Personal Story, Story Dungeons and even the GW1 Story Missions were the best formula to tell a story. So what’s happening?

I wish ArenaNet would just tell us about this situation. It’s been 2 years now.

The entire dungeon team was dispersed. There IS no dungeon team. Maybe they’ll put up some invisible walls or fix a waypoint after a couple of years, but don’t expect anything in dungeons.

Ever.

You’ll just get your hopes up for nothing.

All that was abandoned for Living Story.

GW2 is currently at a situation where while it is still mildly popular (just mildly),
it is no longer the flagship or most important valuable product to parent company NCSoft. Wildstar currently holds that title.

So, throughout the 2 years, after they have already milked most of their profits mainly from launch, they probably don’t think spending extra money for an expansion for a 2 year old game is profitable, thus halt any plans for it and thats why you don’t hear a peep even after 2 years, just speculations here and there even from the devs.

Living story is their alternative to provide content, while trying to milk as much money as possible before they kill off gw2 perhaps. Minimum effort for maximum gain. Don’t hold high hopes for any significant content to be added in the so-called Season 2. We’ll probably have another Scarlett 2.0 or something along that line.

All we can hope is that China GW2 does well enough to let NCSoft take notice again, and hopefully allocate abit more budget to produce more temporary content.

Obviously, i don’t work at Anet or NCSoft so what i’ve said above was pure speculation. But it sure does feel like it though.

Thanks for the feedback guys…
I guess my love for this game is dying if this keeps up…

When ArenaNet doesnt respond to posts like this, it makes me worried about the future of the game.

I guess FF11, FF14 and SWTOR are the only MMOs I know that continue taking Story telling seriously in an epic adventure through missions and exploring… Only problem with those games is Combat sucks… and no Jumping Puzzles and such content I liked from GW2.

I dont play games just for story, I play games with good story and gameplay together. GW2 could have been that game for me if it stayed with Personal Story, Story Dungeons, and Story Missions formula but they didn’t… =(

Nah, they seldom respond to posts like this.
Anyway gw2 isn’t such a bad game tbh. at least its not as stupid as SWTOR where you literally must pay to even wear epic gear i think.

It is however not a conventional mmo, think of it as a very casual mmo, where it encourages you to have alts and doll up your avatar in nice mix and match armors.
Oh, if you like wvw zerging, gw2 can be fun for you.

If you don’t hold too much hope for gw2, you will be happier.
Just treat it as an mmo, that you can come back to play anytime with no subs and obligations to pay for anything.

There is nothing to do after you finish personal story and done the things you enjoyed.

Im talking about content wise since all the content is pulled out due to Living World’s temp nature…

If they work on making more Story Missions, Personal Stories and Story dunegoens, jumping puzzles and such permanantly each month, the game would be expanding and thus having more to do. Specially for new and returning players.

It’s fine if it’s casual MMO, it’s not cool if content is taken away. Taking content away doesnt expand your game at all. It keeps it the same. You should be able to play any content you want at your own time and enjoy it at your own time. Not be forced to do it in a time frame.

Tbh, if ANet devs see the word “dungeon” in a title or post, that guarantees it will be ignored. Sorry man.

To be honest with you. Lineage is NCSoft’s baby. That’s basically their WoW.

Word has it that LS S2 is mostly permanent content. Even Anet admitted that LS S1 was a bit of a flop.

I found Wildstar to be extremely boring. Stupid linear quests that lead you by hand without much fun or freedom, lame combat system…

Hopefully more people will come back to gw2 just like they came after latest wow expansions.

Lol I recently came over from WoW, I have to say that game is being killed by it’s own Dev’s . I only hope GW2 dont go the same way..

I do have to say though that the Traits being locked and having to be higher lvl to get the traits you want at 30-50 is dumb…. Unless you want to spend a lot of G that you dont have yet …

That’s the crux of it.

Go away and take a break sure….. only to come back and have missed out on a bunch of content.

Some of its permanent but it gets messy when you try to explain it to people: “There’s a new dungeon path but its not actually a new dungeon, FotM had some boss fights included from the LS but the way its put together is different”.

If people have been away from GW2 for awhile, even after they read that they still wont get what your talking about. Its easier to just say “you missed most of it, its temporary”.

Hopefully season 2 will be better.

A warrior, a guardian, and an elementalist walk into an open field…
The Warrior turns to the guardian and says, “Did you hear something?”
Guardian replies, “No, but how’d the elementalist die?”

I find the “living story” totally mind-boggling and just about the worst way to spend developer money. A game needs permanent, quality content that everyone can enjoy in their own time and on their own schedule. Zones. Solo, group and guild challenges. Dungeons that are actually fun and engaging instead of skip-stack-skip-stack exploit-and-cheesefests interspersed with one-shot gimmicks.

Its even worse from a story perspective. First and foremost, it has completely written the player characters out of their own game. It’s all about the “iconics”, their story, their relationships, their world. We don’t exist anymore. That’s such a slap in the face that I’d be ticked off even if I gave a kitten about them. And I say that as someone who mostly liked Trahearne and doesn’t mind sharing the spotlight. Second, if you miss a story chapter and thus miss what paltry few seconds of character development there are (for the “iconics”, of course, not for you) it gets increasingly harder to care about them. They’re random yokels the game — when it can occasionally be bothered to remember that my character is still there, too — wants to pretend are kind-of my friends though they know nothing about me and don’t care about me. I’m just the mute grunt who has to do the dirty work before their story can move forward.

I get it. It’s so much cheaper to write and voice a story that revolves entirely around a handful of NPCs instead of paying ten different voice actors for the same role so that the players can actually participate in a story that was supposed to be ours. But it’s fundamentally dishonest, too, to keep pretending we have any place in it. Why does all the money go this instead of content the player actually HAS a place in?
