Reading up on the wiki(I joined rather recently), I found out there were different personality archetypes influenced by the method of diplomacy you chose at character creation and in doing so, you could further influence NPCs via dialogue. What happened to this mechanic and why was it removed? This seemed like such an interesting RP mechanic.

They never did much with it.

I remember, when this game was still in production, reading what they would like to do with the personality system. They suggested, for example, that it would effect interactions with vendors. A charming person might get the occasional discount and a brute might get an option to punch the NPC.

I suspect that the things ANet wanted to do was hard hit by time and budget constraints. Since this system never really was put in besides some dialog options, it was abandoned in favor of other things they want.

I do find it strange that they took it out entirely, though. It’s one thing to not do anything with it, it’s quite another to remove any trace of it. Seems like the effort to remove it could have better been used elsewhere.
