Someone help me out with this…

You’re in a large zerg battling a champ. Banners are in place…100 blades are whirring…buffs are stacking to awesome levels…champ is wilting rapidly under the awesome machine hacking it down…

Then, someone uses a knockback or pull and kittens EVERYTHING up. Champ goes flying, grateful for the reprieve. Zerg has to regroup…out of range of banners…basically everything is screwed up.

Now my question. Are the people who do this so ignorant of game mechanics that they don’t understand what they are doing?

OR…is it a troll move from those who enjoy the feeling of power they get from messing up the program for everyone else?

Thanks for indulging my rant.

I use KB strategically. If there is a unit “solo” when a group of them is standing near by, I will kb that unit in to his buddies to group them up for AoE.

However since champs have defiant, your example is extremely limited and a very rare occurance. Rarely do I ever see a “zerg” even bother to take down defiant stacks. And having to regroup away from banners should never cause the zerg to “fail” in taking out the champ. If it somehow does, thats a bad zerg with crappy dps.

A lot of people seem to spam their skills as soon as they are off CD. Take ranger longbow. I can understand someone using the knock to get a mob further away so they can do more damage with auto-attack. However, I’ve seen rangers use the knock, then move into point blank range to drop a trap, then stay there.

So my guess, is it’s spam. Once in a while, a spammed knock coincides with Defiant being down from all the other people spamming their skills. If it’s not that, it’s someone who likes to see a big mob get knocked, or maybe someone who’s so tired of getting knocked himself he wants some payback.

Ugh, I hate this when I’m playing my warrior. And I definitely think it’s due to people just not thinking and spamming whatever skill is off cd. But yeah.. the amount of times I start 100 blades in a dungeon with guildies and one of them knocks back the mobs… they get a big sigh and whyyyy??? from me (playfully ofc as they’re my friends :P) on mumble. ^^

I am a Warrior. I bring rifle instead of a greatsword while I’m farming champions. Knockbacks can be frustrating at times because AoE Looting can’t reach the corpse.

It is probably just bad play. It is more likely to be careless rangers than any other class since they couldn’t care less where the mobs is. There are any number of other unlikely causes though. Thieves can steal a knockback skill and they can’t steal again until they discharge it. Some summoned mobs have knockback such as the golems from the CoE armor set.

There are few skills that are interrupts that aren’t knockbacks. Perhaps they’re trying to interrupt a champion attack (after all the stacks of defiant have died), and the only one they have available at that time is, or at all is….

…A knockback skill…

I’d like to see more interrupt skills that don’t require a KB solution.

Bad play I bet. People just using skills on cooldown instead of situationally. I used to play as my warrior with a friend as a ranger. I finally had to ask, please don’t use knock back unless you need to get it off you.

I love using my KB shot on my Ranger, but only when it’s actually useful.

I think the real issue here is that some KB hits are a bit better than auto attacks, and most of the time they DON’T send the Champion flying. So it’s easy to fall into the habit of trying to use them every time they’re ready, and then they get caught off guard when it actually works. Good intent, with rare cases of bad results.

Sarcasm, delivered with a
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

That actually makes a lot of sense, and matches what I have seen. On boss/champ fights most of the time a KB won’t do anything. As others have said, they are probably just spamming all their skills when suddenly the champ goes flying…and they think “hope no one knows that was me…..”…lol.

Thanks for the input all. I’ll go take my meds now.

Knockbacks are fun in PVP because toons can fall to their death. knockbacks are pointless in PVE because mobs can’t. If they turned into knockdowns on mobs, i would be a very happy engineer (big ol’ bomb!).

Welcome to the mmo with no subscription fee where kids run rampant. Literally though, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve run into terrible players, I asked their age, and they were below 13.

There are 3 answers to your question.

1. The button mashers. They hit every button without thinking about what it does.

2. The kids who just don’t care. I can’t tell you how many times I suggested not using knockback skills on a boss while they responded with, “i play houw i wana play, noobtuber”.

3. The multi-taskers. I’m guilty of this from time to time where I have a taco in one hand, my phone in the other, and I’m using my pinky to hit spells. This seems like it would be okay, but every once in awhile I hit a button that I didn’t mean to hit and it knocks the boss back, or I drop my taco and it just happens to hit the only key with the knockback skill on it.
