and common sense.

Sadly exactly today I was playing with creating a warrior and therefore searched for good skin combinations. There are only fery few, if not one, good neutral heavy chestpieces in the game, the one from the phalanx armor apparently, which was removed yesterday from the game.
It really sucks that I can’t customize my character accordingly because of this. Why did you remove it? Just to force us to buy it like a cheap sell-tv-channel does?
This game already has way too less armor sets and removing the existing ones does make the situation pathetic.
Please revert the removes or atleast rerelease them in a forseeable future.
Please realise that mixing armor requires a constant access to all armory in the game, you can’t plan for it.
Thanks.

If you’re new, it’s excusable, but the old armor skins like Phalanx have been sitting there for years.
It will be back at some point in the future.

No. That is no excuse at all:

No one knows what skin combination one will like in the future. You buy it when you need it.
The exception would be seasional/special skins, where it’s obvious that they get removed. The Phalanx one clearly isn’t.
I’ll take it from the response that you’re a veteran player who had plenty of time to snag them, then.
/shrug
Granted, I’m vaguely inclined to agree, as ANet isn’t selling a physical product, so there’s no reason to pull them off the digital shelves (except for a hideous UI that can’t search worth a crap).
But, as the case proves/supports, if they don’t threaten to remove them, people won’t buy them in a timely manner, or at all. And there was a good week’s worth of notice. Dunno what else to say about that.

That is just a fanboy joke, right?
You buy your products when you need them. If someone finds a nice mix and one of the skins is a gemstore one, he will buy it, if not, not.
I would be fine if they make it so a complete set of armory costs less than buying every single piece of it alone and if this specific offer would be timelimited, but the pieces alone must be available permanently, there is already only so less armor in the game and there won’t come a lot with hot (like 3 sets), you need every single one to properly customize.

Fanboys have nothing to do with it. Creating an illusion of scarcity works as a business model. Anet isn’t the only business to do it; it’s a common tactic. When people see that an item is going off of the gemstore/going away, they’re more likely to panic buy.

The fanbourism is supporting these 3rd world tactics.
These are not even seasonal items or something special. The phalanx armor ist just a neutral looking heavy armor, not afflicted with any special event or season. No high standard company would do this.

Yup. It’s an artificial economy. Half the things people value in the game are solely because of perceived scarcity.
At least they gave a week’s notice before stuff vanished.

I wouldn’t waste wisdom and logic on someone who tosses around ‘fanboy’ as a counter-argument. :P
But yes, Rose has it spot on. Didn’t buy them when they “might have been cool,” got told they’re going, and now it’s time to pitch a fit. What’s more, there’s no answer your belligerent request is going to have as satisfactory, so the entire thread is a waste.
Armor skins go in and out of style, but “please” and “thank you” never do.
They gave 1 full weeks notice

There was another blog post about certain things coming back this fall, I can’t find it atm.

OP, it seems like you are just looking to argue with your fellow forum users who took time out to respond to your QQ, even though they have no power to give you what you want.
Anet gave an adequate warning, and from what I understand items will return in the future.
Sorry that you were too late but the fact of the matter remains that when you snooze you lose.
Low amount of armor sets? I don’t know which game you’ve been playing that has more armor sets than Gw2 which also gives the option to give every single part your own colors. Nice armor sets? maybe, but that’s purely subjective.
I bought a bunch of the skins that were disappearing from the gem-store, including Phalanx.
I’m a sucker for “different-looking” skins. I’m also a bit of a completionist, so the more skins I own the better. For some of the skins I bought, I don’t really have anything to use them on currently, but I’m an altoholic and I like to mix and match, so they’ll definitely get their use. I have plenty of in-game gold to spare on frivolities… and I’d rather throw gold at gems than miss out on a skin I liked and regret it later. (i.e. I didn’t want to be in your current position)
Call it “fanboyism” if you want… but I don’t see how that has anything to do with it. I didn’t spend real-life money on it.
There are two importances of removing gem-store items.
-Artificial scarcity, which has already been discussed. It shifts those who have been thinking about buying it to actually buying.
-There have been studies done on shoppers- too much choice actually puts people off. There needs to be variety in the gem-store, absolutely, but too much information to digest and compare and a “customer” shuts off and will be less likely to buy.
So the decision was there for a reason. Sucks that you found out you liked it so soon after removal. Wait about 6 months and they’ll probably be back. For the mean-time you’ll just have to settle for something similar.

You did not pay attention to the recent news posts, did you?
Last weekend – literally just a few days ago – they put a bunch of items (armor and finishers mainly) from the gemstore on a “going away” notice and in the news – which is visible both on guildwars2.com as well as the game launcher – it was stated that the summer items will be going away until next year and will be replaced by the winter items (which are now up – items such as Primeval armor, etc.).
They will return. ArenaNet explicitly stated that they would, and even warned you that they were going away for the year.
This isn’t even the first time they’ve done this. They did the same thing last year too, removing some skins to bring them back 6 months later.
It will be back next summer. Personally it looks cool, but not 800 gems cool. I’m just glad I didn’t buy the finishers when they where in the gem store. Seeing as you can hwt most from The TP, at reasonable prices.

Interesting that, here you are, wasting time (if not wisdom or logic) on arguing about whether a follow-up argument was worth arguing over.
If your goal is to encourage ANet to change things, then I recommend these simple (although difficult to master) steps:
Getting angry and calling people names might make you feel better; it’s not likely to catalyze action from ANet.
- Try to understand the theories as to why this might be so, even if you choose not to agree. In this case, there are three main ones: artificial scarcity (also used by Apple, BMW, etc.), clutter reduction (since the UI doesn’t leave room for lots of stuff), and reward revaluation (players devalue that which is always available).
The thing is, everyone knows that this applies (I even mentioned it in the beginning post); the fact that it applies, is the reason I criticize, not anything else. – The fact that you have to use these cheap tactics, which are definitely not as relevant at Apple and Co. as they are in this gemstore. And the UI can be fixed by taking effort in fixing the UI, not just taking the items out, if you make an according stance on the issue.
- Offer ANet an alternative that meets their needs and benefits the entire community.
People these days… Read before posting, thanks:

Because I “accused” somebody of fanboyrism in my argumentation since there is pretty clear evidence? Lel. Fanboyrism is how you think about stuff, not an insult. I even call myself a fanboy on specific stuff, although definitely not on this game, obviously.
