Q:

Basically i am a returning player, but also could say, i am still deciding if i should play the game at all.
After waiting 5 years for the game, it felt dissapointing. In many points, but even still i would play the game, if i could select a class i like. But the problem is classes can not be costumized. Not even slightly.

By that i mean is :
A big part of the game is “the looks” . Yes costumes, weapon and armor skins.
But the game restricts you in that part a LOT.
Why cant i make an egnineer with a heacy looking plate armor, and a sniper rifle? Why does it shoot from the hip at any cost? What if i want to play smt that is more like an assasin? Why am i forced to play a thief to be atleast “like” it? Not even thief has a sniper rifle style of play. Its actually a warrior that has it….so i am forced to play a plate wearing class only to be able to use a rifle and fight like that?
Isnt that TOTALLY CORNERED?

Why am i also forced to play warrior if i want to play a dual sword character? I mean rangers are the class that defined dual wielding in the 90% of fantasy games, movies, books. Really a stupid example but i am sure atleast the most ppl know Drizzt Do’Urden?
Why cant i play a real tipical “caster” Necromancer? Why am i forced to play melee, and moderate range with it? Why does the terrible look (personal taste, but since it cant be changed its also forced) of Stakitten “auto attack” force me to play a different class?
Why does the “cant disable to show hobosack” on engineer force me to stop playing it?

Thse are so minor details, and still destroy my game. THe curent classes are so WALLED IN, that if i pick 1…ill be sure to run into stuff that i dont like. And that stuff is like the 20% of that class, so i cant even avoid it.

I am sure this is only my opinion, but still, who says its only my? Does it have to be degraded “who cares, then leave”.
With this attitude sooner or later there wont be any players left.
Dont even bother to say “its a free game noone gives a crap you leaving”. I bought 4 copy of the game, spent like 1000 euro on gems (triyng to improvem y gameplay, without sucsess)
I still stay here and try to believe in the game, wishing it to sucseed. Still the devs dont even bother to atleast look into stuff, even minor things that are popping up every week atleast once. Not even bother to say : we dont bother, we dont care, we dont want. Or simply : NO

So in short : I cant even pick a class to play for like 10000 resons. How am i supposed to play the game, i really want to.
(yes i do have lv 80 characters. Yes i did try all of them for like 30 match of pvp)

I would have preferred a more open-ended system too…but alias not…

If you want to play roll a guardian/mesmer, those 2 are currently the most balanced and good at everything…

Because there has to be a line drawn somewhere? Do you even realise how much work it would take to make absolutely any weapon combination viable for every single class with different skills from each weapon per class? You’d never have a game …

If you waited for 5 years the game is not the problem here. its you. I know the feel, when you wait for it for that long you get so hyped up through the years and you will get dissapointed.

Back on topic. As the guy over me stated guardians and mesmer are a good choice. They are both really wanted in dungeons along with warriors.

Myself, play a necro and have done so for 750 hours. I love it so much since the “Tankyness” and AOE abilities, but they are not really wanted in dungeon (Heck, on 750 hours i have been rejected like… 2-3 times and thats because the leader thought i ran the basic condition build, but im not) so its not a big deal…

Necro are also getting buffed in the next patch (1-2 hours from now, so excited) SO we’ll see.

But a guardian will never go wrong, since they have great survivability and are wanted for pretty much everything

At first I thought you were being sarcastic but then you dropped the last one. You cant be sarcastic half way through the sentence and then change back to normality! Therefore I assume you meant to say that seriously; here, let me fix it for you

Roll a guardian/mesmer/warrior, those 2 are currently the OP in PvE and good at everything. They pretty much outclass anybody else in dungeons and pretty much open PvE.

As for WvW and PvP thieves/mesmer/guardian/bunker ranger take the prize home, limiting the amount of classes you can play in a competitive enviroment since 80% of all team will be composed of mostly mesmers and bunker rangers.

Hmm sounds good. Though i dont think i can deal with the staff “auto attack” ….still not i mean. But the buff on Necro does sounds good.
I did like playing Guardian, and it did have Heavy armor, that does seem to be the best looking armor tipe in the game.(same for weapons, it has a big selection) but to many player seems to be palying it.
Mesmer does seem to be a good pick to, since its looks and feels a lot more like a real caster, but the illusions and phantoms mechanic is really not my style.
So i am stuck still, but thank you for the help anyway.

Ps : i guess i cant disagree with you on the 5 year wait time thing Homo, but must also admit, after 1 year of release i still felt like, i am waiting for the game, or content in it. (like guild halls) So what ever, it still sounds resonable.

These expectations are pretty ridiculous… Did you even try to fathom the work that goes in to modeling, texturing, rigging, animation, lighting, special effects, the math/code behind skill behavior, etc? You do realize they can’t sit down and custom tailor every little nit picking detail exactly to each individual player’s request? This is a video game meant for millions of people. If you can’t stand the way your characters look in this game, despite the multitude of combinations with races, classes, and transmutation stones, go find another game that is more to your liking.

Exactly. It seems like he wants the game to have 1 class with access to all skills and gear in the game in any combination as well as the option to chose which animations are used for everything. Like really? Do you want to be able to use Jump Shot with a staff that looks like a greatsword, yet the animation is a seamless combination of /dance + /threaten + /scared with the added particle effects of mesmer clone shatters? Oh and his character better look like a combo of Darth Vader, Solid Snake, and Master Chief using light, medium, and heavy armor pieces at the same time…

I have an idea. If you want to custom tailor all of these things, become a 3D artist and do it yourself.

Right? If the game was done this way there’d be no point in having any class at all, and actually would probably lead to much less diversity than we see even now as there would undoubtedly be one “perfect” class everyone would play. The whole point about having separate classes is to have a distinction.

But, just a tip for the OP … you CAN, I believe, on certain sets of dungeon armour etc, transmute the skins to a white account bound item and then back across to another set of armour of a different class, so that way you can have a Guardian wearing, say, a Ranger’s armour. However, they may have fixed this exploit.

I wont become an 3d artist because that does not exist. There are 3d modellers, and texturest at best…i know becaouse i work as an artwork designer -_- yes my english sux..so what? I use german and hungarian and japanise….

Any any case….i am not sure what you think, but detailing every single detail? You even realize how it works? Besides, you seen gw1? You could use like any kind of weapon on any class… You realize there is ONLY 1 way to shoot a gun? At best 3. From hip or from shoulder, at best you can count sideways shooting or some tricky thing like 1 handed combat shotgun shooting? What idiot would make another animation for another modell, that is basically differing in like 1-2 hardpoints at best?

And dont even try to convince me that making an : ON-OFF button in options for a modell ON-OFF toggle is so extremely big work…(hobo sack)

“detailed to every single player” You kidding me? Adding dual sword to ranger is not some “personal request” i think every proper fantasy game should have them(o should have an option for the most comming kitten) -_- I might be old fashioned.

I dont want to sound offensive, or flame, dont take me wrong…but i think you are picturing things into what i sead.

Honestly, from what I could read and understand, it seems like you’d enjoy Skyrim or Oblivion or something. In those games you can equip any armor type you like along with any weapon combination, and use spells!

I’m not going to argue some of the points you made, or tried to make. I do agree with some, and I hope for future updates, I would like to use different weapons on the current professions. Dual swords would be fun on a ranger, or adding rifles to a thief.
It would also be neat if we could use a different armor weight class than the one we’re stuck with. So, wearing medium/heavy armor on an elementalist, of course, it would be appearance only. Having armor as appearance only armor across the classes “shouldn’t” be too difficult, I imagine. But I also don’t know what it takes to make that happen.

Overall, I’m neutral to the original post. And honestly, it just sounds like you’re complaining about a game you haven’t played much of, or chosen to enjoy.
