Pine is a soft wood!
Firstly, I would like to say that your game is awesome. I am really enjoying it.
I do have one issue though. In your land of Dragons, Undead creatures, magic and portals to distant lands there is a problem.
I am willing to allow magic to exisit and monsters to rise from the ground at any moment. Dragons to take over the world and even a giant cat-like creature throwing fireballs at a viking.
But this is just too far. I have been out in your wonderful world, exploring the depths of Orr, the beautiful caledon forest and even delving into the Ascalonian catacombs. But this is totally ruined by the fact when I chop down a Pine spaling I get a Hard wood log. I mean seriously?! am I supposed to believe this. Pine is a soft wood! This has really ruined my enjoyment of the game and I hope you address this issue post-haste.Thankfully

p.s. This isn’t serious it’s just a little joke about the moaning in the forums. but if you could change pine to drop soft wood that would be great. Cheers guys and gals
That’s one of the more useful posts I’ve seen on the forums for a while. And that is no joke.
What I find more outrageous is how a mob like a crab can suddenly drop a giant greatsword.
It’s magic!
Magic Magic Magic
I just assumed my Chop-It-All logging axe was causing a transformation at the subatomic level with it’s lightning effect
Perhaps, in the land of Tyria, Pine is actually hard wood?

Brilliant Post, OP. I really did laugh out loud.

What about the Skritt Burglar? How does he not suffocate in the chest? or even starve? unless he has the power to eat items for sustenance…
Please give us a keyring…
Well, we all have to admit that our toons are incredibly strong….after a run on Cursed I am carrying about 2 tons worth of stuff with my little Asura. That’s like ant strength.
Don’t forget lighting people on fire when they are in water.
I’ve always wondered about that too….. but this is Tyria so maybe their pine trees have a denser wood than our own pine trees here.
That said, their “pine” trees don’t have needles like normal pine trees either, so maybe they’re really more like ash or mahogany trees and less piney.
…Pine is a soft wood!…
ROFL, having grown up where lumber (specifically pine) was the primary economic entity, that was EXACTLY my first thought the first time I salvaged one of those!
I could excuse other inconsistencies (Golems can bleed due to hydraulic tubing), but there are other funny ones – how do ghosts POSSIBLY bleed or get poisoned?

Yet with all that strength, invisible walls preclude jumping over certain rocky areas no higher than the ones you jumped over getting there…
Hyenas don’t howl either… that REALLY grinds my gears. It is completely anatomically impossible for a Hyena to vocalise with its head high.

Whoa! I never noticed that before now…
100% agree. As a Treebro (Sylvari) I don’t like seeing my poor pine buddies being represented incorrectly.
You don’t gather Black Peppercorns. You harvest pepper “fruits” and make black peppercorns out of them afterwords.
And why are there no coffee trees in this game?!?!
What I find more outrageous is how a mob like a crab can suddenly drop a giant greatsword.
Them shells they wear are great for hammer space storage.
And why are there no coffee trees in this game?!?!
Because we already have the Inquest. I’d hate to seem them on coffee.

Slimer from ghost busters. he “bled” slime everywhere. But that was his thing.
Ascalonian ghosts? Not so much their thing, but they still are made of ecto!

Then they should drop Ectos… amirite?!?!?
Or how about the oxymoron that are “ancient” saplings, eh eh?

Yeah they sound like wolves! What the hell…in guild wars 1 they sqeualed like REAL hyenas!

Not to mention that “ancient” (and therefore dead, brittle) wood would be a TERRIBLE crafting material to make items from.
OP is my new personal hero.
How about those veteran novices in the cliffside fractal. I always wondered how they could be veterans and novices at the same time.
I’ll go for the obvious one here. We eat all of those consumables and put away enough booze to make any Norn proud. Where do we go to ‘evacuate’ it all?
“[human] Hey, which way to the out-house?
[asura] We don’t have out-houses. We have water closets.
[human] Like… latrines?
[asura] Nope, they all flow into the same sewer system, and that all goes out to sea.
[human] That’s more than I really needed to know.
[asura] Hey you asked! Just don’t ask me if anything lives down there.
[human] You got a deal.”
I’m yet to see any of these facilities, even with 100% world completion, however I dread to think of what we’re swimming in with our underwater combat. >_<

Maybe the pine tree was just happy to see you?
Gold bricks are worth 1/33 a gold coin. Your wood based logic has no place here.

chuckle
You mean like…
Cherry, as a fruit tree, is actually a hardwood, but in the game it is softwood (and occasionally drops walnuts…wtf)
How about the lone wolf who howls and brings another one?

The bars are really small think how many are needed for just 1 ring! and the coins are super very thin, thats how you can carry hundreds, and make loads of coins from such a small bar!
How about the lone wolf who howls and brings another one?
They are just in stealth waiting the signal to strike as a pack, you just too blind to see them before their tactical brilliance is revealed. Its all evolution you know.

Speaking of stealth, how about the “spies” that look like predator so that we can see them but somehow the separists (sp?) do not. What would be funny is if we are running along and we actually trip over the spies in order to find them. Make ’em really invisible.
Ever get hit with a Pine bat?
It felt pretty hard to me.
Also, maybe the Pine trees in Tyria are different than Pine on earth?
Ninja stealth-wolves? Why not.
Cheap gold ore? Sure, processing costs money.
Crabs dropping Greatswords – Google ‘Lobster Knife Fight’ and you’ll never question those drops again
You ever work at a place where there’s the guy who has been doing the same job for years with no desire to be promoted. He’s just making due? – Veteran Novice
Ancient Wood terrible for crafting? – Stop the ageism. Just. Stop.
Nope. It can all be explained.
I’m sure they wood make that change, but I think it may be too hard to do at this point in the game.
And why are there no coffee trees in this game?!?!
I almost made a post when I heared in CoE “the cafeteria is now closed”, I was thinking where is the coffee? But after a quick googleing found that cafeteria =/= cofee house (english is not my first language).
A Skritt is dumb. A group of Skritt are smart.
A Human is smart. A group of Humans are idiots.
They used to grow in the Citadel of Flame but adventurers speed running trampled them to oblivion.
CoFfee trees, that is.
Just as in Twin Earth water is XYZ, in Tyrya, Pine is a type of hardwood. Therefore, this game is just a wonderful argument for semantic externalism.

Thanks for the post. It has secretly always bugged me too that pine is a soft wood, yet yields ‘hard wood’ in this game. I’m glad it isn’t just me.
Veteran karka hatchlings are another weird thing. Also, I don’t know why Flame region can steps on their fire field just fine, but severely damaged from our fire field skill. What is the different in the fire?

Don’t forget the Champion Risen Spider Hatchlings in Orr.
I’ve seen random NPCs (especially Asurans) target ambient raccoons, rabbits, rats, owls, birds and kill them for no reason, with their victorious battle cry “NEVER CAPITULATE”
Also, every Asura’s krewe is on the verge of a breakthrough. Just an fyi
