Pink for October - Breast Cancer Awareness
Sounds simple enough. My attire usually had shades of red and pink in there anyway. Count me in.
I’ll wear some pink if you wear brown in March for Colorectal Cancer Awareness month!
I like the idea. I’m from Argentina…
I’m in!

I wear brown most of the time anyways.
Count me in, and I’ll get my guild in on it too!
Uh no. My Norn hats pink.
I wonder if GW2 will have the official Pink Day in L.A.
I don’t want to be known as the one straight guy who doesn’t like breasts, I will wear more pink than anyone.
3rd Flora Artillery Unit
My cousin is a breast cancer survivor so in support of her (and of course everyone else), I will dye my armor shades of pink for October.
Thank you for sharing this idea.
It’s great to do stuff about breast cancer, but it’s a very specific cancer. When is prostrate cancer month? Oh, that’s right…
It’ll be when people do something about it.
But yeah, effort and stuff. Might as well complaint about people who do things.

Didn’t mean to come across as negative, but what about cancer in general? When is lung cancer month?
All cancer is bad, not just that which can only effect certain people.
For the record, men can get breast cancer too. Feel free to post about other causes, I just chose to post about pink for breast cancer in October.
Every time this comes up, I find myself wondering exactly how many people are not aware of cancer at this point?
To raise awareness of something, wouldn’t an increase in the people knowing about the issue, be a requirement of awareness being raised?
If people really, really need to feel like they have helped with out having actually done anything I recommend prayer. It’s a bit old fashioned but I think you will be impressed.

Breast cancer awareness is to try help gather money for research on cancer. Not just being “aware”.
Absolutely!
Having a juggernaut of a Norn Guardian that uses a massive Hammer, I think I can support the ta-tas for the month and dye his armor pink, from its traditional Gold and Sapphire colors.
Especially considering I take the Armor VERY seriously. I spent the better part of 5 hours gettting the right shade of blue…
Im there!

How does a pink skin in a video game raise money?

By making people who don’t know be aware and other remember that they can donate for cancer research.
Here’s the website of people who started the Pink day in LA

I’ll get my CoF armor set all pinky starting this Friday xD
This is your calling, to The battle of your life.
Been Wearing Pink for a while now xD

Hey guys…
You know that the companies that help “raise awareness” actually spend more money on advertising and administration costs than actually researching cures and treatment…right…right?
Very nice, I’ll wear pink too ^^ I’m in!
To be honest if I saw someone wearing pink in GW2, breast cancer would be one of the last things I thought about.
I’d simply think “Oh that person wants to have bright coloured armor” and nothing more. Now if GW2 actually had a news update or implemented some NPC ingame handing out pink dyes explaining why. Then that would be a plausible reason for people to know about breast cancer.
If people don’t realise what you’re doing and you have to tell them, you are simply better off spamming about it in the major cities.
Actually as it is said by Groonz.7825 it will be great if there will be in game an NPC for that.
Or maybe we can spam that…
I’m totally in, when i go home this night i will change immediately the color of my armor.
My mother is a breast cancer survivor, my father died from lung cancer… yet I’m not sure wearing pink is gonna cure anyone, or even just incite anyone to make donations, even less in a video game.
I’ll keep supporting cancer cure research in my crimson armor – and donating to appropriate organizations ;-)
A PvX guild for mature players with a life.
Just got some hot pink dye.
Count me in!
For the last 6-7 year’s I’ve been using different pink avatars on forums to show my support.
I care about breasts, and I hope they find a cure for all cancers. But I never understood the encouragement to get everything turned pink for a month, especially the drive to get guys to wear pink. Seems like a form of mind control if you ask me, or a way of taming people, forcing them to conform to what was previously unacceptable. Maybe its just me.
acording to this Pink day in LA will be manly focused in GW2 this year http://gw-en.com/2012/09/pink-day-in-la

I don’t have time to find the source right now because my lunch break is about to end but I’ve seen research that suggestions “awareness” campains can actually make people LESS likely to donate money towards the cause they support.
People change their armor in game or spam Facebook or wear a badge to work or whatever and then they feel like they’ve done their bit, they’ve helped and now it’s someone else’s responsibility to actually do something constructive.
It’s a great way to give people an easy opportunity to feel better about themselves, but unless you’re raising awareness for self-esteem it pretty much stops there.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
While running around out in the world of Tyria and you see a Charr dressed in pink, you can say “Hey, that guy cares about breasts too.” And really, who doesn’t?
I care about people suffering from life threatening illness. People, not breasts.
As someone whose cousin is currently in the final stages of terminal cancer I don’t really see the use of people colouring their armour pink, and I doubt my cousin would find it helpful either.
It would have been better to petition Anet to add a special item to the gemstore and donate the money to a reputable cancer organisation, but it’s probably too short notice for them to do anything in time for October.
Breast cancer is a serious illness, and I don’t wish to detract from that, but the amount of awareness is pretty high comparatively.
For example, did you know that twice as many women die from lung cancer, and 5 times as many die from heart disease every year? And how many people were aware that heart disease is the number one killer of all people everywhere by a large margin?
Just sayin’

I vaguely remember the same thing – folks feel like wearing pink or changing their facebook page is doing something, so they don’t donate. Being aware that folks are looking for a cure for breast cancer isn’t the same thing as knowing what you could do to help.
I think the sponsored activities generate more help – marathons, hikes, bike rides, et. al. We had one of our executive management rappel down the side of a skyscraper to raise money for Make a Wish – we all chipped in to see that
He might start thinking he knows what’s right for you.

Awareness and fun, that what this is about. I can’t go about and donate my kids college fund away but I can make a thread and hopefully inspire a few people to show their support. I’m no one of those that spams for FB to turn pink and I’m not asking AN to do anything either. I just thought that if multiple people across Tyria were running around in pink, that it may draw some attention. That attention, in turn may possibly result in a written article or possibly even donations.
I’ve personally had two of my aunts pass away from breast cancer and its treatments. As a woman, that is a bit worrisome of my future. Breast cancer is by far the most “popular” of cancers as far as awareness is concerned. It may not need the huge amount of advertisement it gets, but progress in finding a cure for breast cancer would be progress for other types as well.
Lastly, I do know that heart disease and lung cancer are major killers. I’m not sure how to go about inspiring people to exercise, eat healthy, and quit smoking in a video game. Also, yes, I know you can be at risk even though you do those things.
I’m surprised at the number of negative responses in this thread.
1) Yes, everybody is aware that there are multiple kinds of cancer, be it lung, breast, testicular, prostrate, or any and all others. Cancer research is cancer research, and if “breasts” are a fashionable way to raise awareness, then so be it. I do not think it detracts from the other forms in any way, shape or form.
2) It’s entirely optional and just a suggestion! If you don’t want to, don’t do it! Your world is not being changed by others doing it. Your world is not going to collapse, nothing changes.
3) If just one person asks “Hey, why is everyone in pink?”, and then they learn about the dangers of breast cancer, then it’s been worth it really, hasn’t it?
I think i’ll pass.
At least until breast cancer awerness includes male breast cancer to, im all for stopping it but I find the lack of help for men extremely lacking.
It boarders on sexist.
Yep. I’ll see what pink dyes I have and I’m in.
And this gives me an idea for the suggestion forum…
I’m all for healthy breasts, so count me in.
Breasts? I’m a fan. I’ll be dyeing the armors pink for all my characters, for the entirety of the month. Anyone know if there are going to be any “Pink Day in L.A. (Lion’s Arch)” events?

I hope not, something like that should not happen. The only things that should be done is global events like Chinese new year, Halloween, Christmas not some silly breast cancer thing.
You might as well post a pink lolcat to your Facebook page, you trendy activists.
This kind of nonsense helps no one. It doesn’t help people with cancer. It doesn’t help people who might get cancer. It doesn’t help people pay for cancer treatment. It doesn’t help people get screened for cancer.
The idea behind breast cancer awareness campaigns is to get people who are at risk for it to screenings, so that they get better outcomes. It’s to fund efforts to treat cancer. It’s not to make a bunch of 20-something college white boys feel like hipster social activists for wearing a certain color.
If you want to do something meaningful about breast cancer, go talk to your mother about breast cancer. Your mother (women age 55+) is the demographic most at risk for breast cancer – it’s also a demographic with very little representation in MMOs. Make sure she’s going to the doctor regularly and getting screened once she’s past 55. For that matter, go to the doctor yourself yearly.
Instead of spending $10 on gems this month, donate that $10 to cancer research or to organizations that help breast cancer survivors. You don’t need to drain your savings account to make a difference – small donations add up. You do need to do something more than buy a pink dye in a video game, though.
Sorry, but I don’t see how dressing into pink will help anybody at all.
I also don’t approve of this being specifically a “breast” cancer thing. I feel as if every other person with a different kind of cancer is being discriminated, especially males at this point.
Count me out.
Might have to buy some pink from the TP (I guess I’ve been lucky/unlucky in grabbing that color), but it’s for a good cause…
But don’t you folks go jacking up the prices now.
already bought my hot pink rare dye from the marketplace.

If you want to stop cancer try fighting back against Monsanto with their GMO crops and antibiotic meat.
I dont mean to be a jerk but what good does it do to wear pink colored armor in a video game when you wont take 10 minutes to research the real issues.
No. It doesn’t help anyone and only serves the purpose of looking silly.
We are not friends.

Some of you holier-than-thou activists should stop for a moment and consider that because some folks, want to participate in something like this, doesn’t mean they don’t make meaningful contributions in other ways. The pink thing is mostly just for fun. But I guess the term “fun” doesn’t really register with you, seeing how you’re carrying around the weight of the world on your shoulders. I’m surprised you’re even able to take time away from your full time job as selfless agony merchant, to play a game. How frivolous can you get?
And to the to-cool-for-school kitten who commented, Pink Day in L.A. was a fan sponsored event from GW1 and wasn’t run by ArenaNet. Their only contribution was the adding of a vendor who sold, of all things, pink dye. In GW2, they don’t even need to add that. Your precious development resources aren’t being squandered.
Seriously, what a bunch kitten retentive kittens.
Ill go full pink when I log in today. So I don’t forget.
