PVE Placement restrictions needed near merchants/banks:

Box of fun
Bobblehead Laboratory
Banker Golem (2 weeks)
Costume Brawl cauldron
probably few others I didn’t listed

Players putting down these items preventing/interfering with other players from using merchants/banks and even some Vista’s I’ve came across. It’s getting worse ad worse in 3 very popular maps which I won’t name so it won’t get worse.

Also restrictions from placing a feast on top of another feast that someone put down to help with an event.

Simple solution would be the one that Chad suggested, make all spawnable item unable to be placed one on top of other and setting some minimal distance between them.

And unfortunately, unlike in WOW when jerks park huge mounts on top of things like mailboxes, in GW2 you can’t switch to first-person view to see ‘inside’ the annoyance to target the NPC/whatever you’re trying to get to.

GW2 does have a first person view option now, it was added several months ago.

I know it does, but GW2’s FPV doesn’t allow what I pointed out WOW’s FPV does, I tried, I still can’t target the NPC the jerk’s Box o’ Fun is sat on top of!

So the change we need is:

Placables (food, banners, boxes of fun, merchants, etc) can no longer be placed within 300 range of

  • other placables
  • vendors, event npcs, etc
  • resource nodes
  • event interactables (such as turrets, kegs, etc)
  • chests
  • world bosses (because we want to be able to pick up conjured weapons instead of trollfood)

Did I miss something?

Don’t restrict it to just certain items. Make it so that players cannot place/drop anything within the “interaction zone” of anything else. It’s not a big deal to place that banner/boost/whatever a couple of more paces away.

Although I did find the guy who kept dropping the aviator memory box on Silverwaste chests quite funny. Even though you could not see other players doing the plane thing you could still enjoy the chat meltdown. Special mention to the chap who was attempting to duplicate the plane sounds in chat: “Brrrrrrrr”, “Neeee-ooooowwwww”.

But it does highlight that you also need to prevent placement where a chest might be about to spawn, which might be a bit trickier to code.

All the chests are basically always there. The same goes for resource nodes and some other stuff. They’re just deactivated and thus not visible. So implementation should be fairly easy.

Alright. Brace yourselves.

I remember dropping 20-ish Boxes of Fun in the main hub area of DR and then a tonne of them in The Grove when the Aviator April Fool’s Day event were released for the first time. Oh the horrors. People couldn’t access the bank, apparently.

I remember unwaveringly spamming over 5 stacks of Packaged Snowballs whilst on a SW chest train trip and whoever wanted to open the chest picked up a snowball instead.

I remember mass spamming Endless Belcher’s Bluff tables all over main cities & in absurd places in WvW. You can make fun words out of those…

I remember dropping 5 Trading Posts and 5 Merchants in the lava at the Mega Destroyer World Boss event. Many didn’t make it out alive that day, sadly.

I remember relentlessly dropping cheap, nasty ghetto food everywhere all over the place and even on top of other legit proper food in the Zerg I were running with in WvW. Apparently people don’t like Strawberry Pies.

I still have around 50 Boxes of Fun left in the bank I think, although I’m a good child now and I’ve geared away from my salty shenanigans.

I know the troubles of trying to interact with NPCs or simply wishing to interact with the banker, so I too, agree there should be a “no drop zone” on/around x radius of things such as:

- Any NPC/merchant/TP etc
- Chests/minigames/interact able objects
- harvesting nodes
- literally anything that requires “F” or interact key

TLDR: agreed with other player’s stating there should be a certain radius where you cannot place things on top of/directly next to etc.
