Placing markers as a basic squad option.
Is it really needed? I’d really say they only come with the commander tag as you only need them in larger squads which only comms can create.
I mean dungeons etc there’s only going to be 4 other people with you, so are markers really needed? Could always just ping a location on the map, and even with strangers it’s not that hard to coordinate with a group of 5, even in fractals.
Open world I can’t see the need for it, as any world boss / event where they are useful, like TT, DS etc, are ones that need a lot of people, so having markers for, or even having a 10 person squad is a bit redundant there. Events that need/are useful with markers will generally have comms tagged up trying to organise things anyway, in which case should really be in their squads.
Sure in raids they could be useful, but generally most people who are into raids most likely already have a comm tag, or at the very least will be players where 300g isn’t exactly going to break the bank.
It’s just seems like a very basic and useful thing to have. Why put it behind such a prohibitive price tag?
If, for whatever reason, the guy with the commander tag can’t show up to the raid then we would still be able to use objective markers.
Other MMOs let players use markers for free. If Anet has enough time to spite leather farmers surely they can implement markers as a basic squad feature.
I can see the idea, and I disagree with it,
BUT
1st) you also have the option to place 1 marker yourself at ANY time. regardless of squad or party… your personal waypoint!
2nd) combine it with the basic draw and ping options. this functionality is more direct and fluent
3rd) I prefer the other markers to stay behind the options of the commander compendium.
The markers should be usable by commanders and lieutenants, not by everyone.
It would complicate things and alow for massive trolling. I remember all stuff drawn on the minimap in the past and I prefer -not- to see smilies drawn with commander markers…
Also the drawing and pinging will allow for dynamic adjustments, when compared to the commanders tags which are often only used as static markers.
Most things needed to be resloved in dungeons and fractals are movement patterns anyways. which are not easily covered by commander’s markers anyways
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.

This sounds like a good idea to me. I agree that it shouldn’t be restricted to squads. As someone who has raided and ran a lot of dungeons in wow I can confirm that it’s very useful especially when explaining mechanics and encounters to newer players, regardless of voice comms.
If you don’t see a use for it then that’s fine but others can see a use for it. As for trolling, well if you’re not in the squad/party you won’t see anything, will you?
I can see the idea, and I disagree with it
You’d rather reject a feature because you fear players might misuse it, instead of hoping arenanet implements it in a way so that it can’t be abused? Anet could simply limit markers to the squad leader.
Please, do explain, what would a personal waypoint communicate to your raid team?
How come players rarely (if ever) abuse the much more advanced marker system in FFXIV? Be real, there’s no reason not to have markers as a basic feature.
