Planningto return - what to do in PvE / WvW?

Hi everyone,

I am thinking of returning to GW2 and my goal is to play a few hours each weekend (not more than 7 hours total per week).

I quit playing PvE almost a year ago after the release of HoT (I do own HoT and have completed only the first map). I mostly played fractals and events in PvE (have 2 map completions) and I already maxed out my PvP title.

What would you recommend I be doing in PvE to make up for my absence such that I can start doing some fun/challenging activities like raids or something else? Also interested in WvW if anything new/improvements were made there.

Thanks

Been there, done that. What’s next?

A good start, if you don’t mind spending some gems, would be the new LS story. Part 3 is live right now, and I’m pretty sure 1 and 2 are for sale at 200 gems a piece. The HoT maps have had their difficulty nerfed (or I’m getting better, which I doubt, lol), so venturing further, and working on mysteries would be another good route.

I have no input on WvW, unfortunately. I haven’t found any of the experiences I have had to be at all enjoyable, but I have not invested time into learning what to do, or even participating. As far as HoT content goes, I avoid Dragon Stand most of the time (get in a group if you want to be there), and I haven’t finished the final part of the story because it bugged on me twice, and I don’t mind not finishing it.

Really, just running around the maps, gathering mastery points has been most of my activity for the past month (since I’ve come back). Hopefully someone else can help you, and possibly me, on the WvW side of things.

Get as many hero points challenges (formerly skill points on your character) as you can. It will make unlocking the elite specializations much faster. 250 hero points are needed to unlock the elite specailization, and this is per character.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Hero_point

Central Tyria — 200 points
Heart of Maguuma — 400 points
Krait Obelisk Shard — 1 point
World versus World — 13 points

Heart of Maguuma is the expansion maps. Each hero challenge in Heart of Maguuma is worth 10 hero points instead of 1.

If you get all Central Tyria (pre-expansion) hero points, you will only need to do 5 hero challenges in HoT maps to completely unlock the elite specailization. If you get the ones in WvW, it’d bring the number down to 4. You can get 5 HoT hero challenges fairly easy in the first zone of HoT.

The other thing I would suggest is getting achievements that award Central Tyria mastery points, so you may have enough to unlock Pact Mastery.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Central_Tyria_mastery_tracks#Pact_Commander
Requires 19 Central Tyria points.

You will receive your mastery points for the achievements you do once you buy HoT.

Unlocking the elites will also prepare your characters for WvW as well. There is one thing of note though— and that is an ability line that lets you autoloot and also buy various pieces of equipment

For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards,
for there you have been and there you will long to return.

If you think you will be bored of the old core tyria maps (or if you already 100% them) you might wanna start with unlocking your main characters elite specialization. Might give you a new way to play and keep things interesting.

Followed by doing achievements for your elite specializations weapon.

Explore hot zones, finish the hot storyline. Start maybe lving world season 3?
