Crafting is all well and good. I don’t mind people crafting things in MMOs or any other games. However I feel that it detracts from the game itself when I have to craft a weapon, and that’s the only way to get it. Legendaries make sense that you have to craft things, as they’re just giant money pits. But Ascended weapons need something different.

I would like to have a way to “earn” ascended gear. Much like I can earn exotic or ascended trinkets/rings.

Weaponsmithing for me is a long haul, it’s not just getting the materials to craft the weapon, but the materials to go from 1-400 as well. It’s expensive and tedious for me.

I don’t care if it’s something like 100 laurels for a single piece. As long as I can earn it in some respect in the future.

I am aware they have a chance to drop, but I have farmed fractals for a single vial of essence for a back piece for a month and I have yet to have an ascended piece. It’s infuriating to have to sit on RNG on a game with so many currencies in it. Especially now that dungeon armor is obsolete.

I think crafting is getting the special treatment first, because lets be honest, crafting was previously only good sucking money out of the economy to sell people materials.

I’m almost certain they’re going to put in different methods of acquiring ascended gear. They give different methods of acquiring everything else already. I think it’s a safe bet to say that WvW tokens might play a part in getting ascended armor when it comes out. Go ahead and farm those if you want.

Because glob knows if the WvW crowd is left out of any more content consideration there’ll be a riot.

I am going to take a stab in the dark and say probably not any time soon, based on this:

Seems to me they were not happy with how “easy” exotics were to get. Doesn’t bode well for adding multiple avenues for getting these new ascended items, or if they do I am sure they will still be time gated in some way because he pretty clearly states he likes the time frames they are now using. Makes sense given what he said that they nerfed karma gain across the board back to slightly better than it was before they added karma from dailies. So I think they are still just basically trying to poke around and see the format they want to use, and it’s probably not static and will most likely change in response to player fluctuation numbers.

No, you don’t need to, any more than you need the thing in the first place. Need is irrelevant.

What is relevant is that for item drops you are subject to multiple levels of RNG. First, you have to get onto the rare table. Then you have to get past LS items (e.g., gauntlet tickets), rares, rare mats, and exotics. So now you get an Ascended chest, but there’s more RNG to see if it is the stats you prefer. Needing a perfect storm does not constitute a reliable means to get something.

Sure, some people will get lucky. But ask yourself, how many preferred stat exotics have dropped for you?

Yeah, I had a feeling.

I would really like there to be a way to earn an ascended weapon though. Like I said, 100 laurels for a single weapon would be fine with me. As long as I can earn my weapon just by playing the game, instead of leveling up various crafting professions.

I dunno. I play Guild Wars 2 to kill things. I love how dungeon tokens, laurels, etc. work. I don’t mind adding more of that stuff in the game. Instead of having to sink a ton of gold into crafting materials just to get to the level of crafting I need to make a weapon so that I can kill things 10% faster.

I agree with you 100%, I rarely craft in any mmorpg. It just isn’t something I ever enjoyed much, if it were tied to having a cosmetic item I certainly wouldn’t care, but the direction of gating BiS gear just for the people who complained and can’t see how they can add meaningful character progression without simply inflating stats pretty well ticks me off. Now that they are in the game though, I don’t want to be at a disadvantage stat wise no matter how small the difference is. People often say you don’t need them to complete content, then one must ask…why are they even in the game as opposed to keeping with the horizontal progression scheme they initially touted.

Agreed with OP. I wasn’t too happy when they announced ascended crafting, but I decided to go through with it anyway, cause, you know, BiS. But then I saw how much it costs just to level a craft to 500. Needless to say, I’m not crafting one anymore.

Can we get some more ways to get those, you know, like all the other ascended items in the game?

Agreed with the OP. I currently plan on crafting ascended armor and hopefully the rest of my trinkets someday, but I have no desire to level 3 additional crafts just to make 4 new weapons for my main.

Would really appreciate multiple avenues to acquire gear. You know, play the way you want to play and all that. I thought ANet learned this lesson back with the FotM release

I did not buy a crafting simulation game, i’ve had enough of that in Dead Space 3… Crafting is ‘acceptable’ but only when the mats needed are farmable and farming in an over nerfed game isn’t the answer. Plus, that only applies to meh looking exotics. I do not want to craft ascended gear or other flashy skins, but attain them by playing hard content. Why can’t they give us a hard mission/dungeon where you collect relics (which aren’t available on TP/sellable), combine them for that brand new cool looking skin as an example? Why the f is everything TP related? Its so kitten annoying…

Some people enjoy crafting. I would rather have ArenaNet add more options, and not take away options other people enjoy. I personally don’t enjoy crafting, but if I had another way of getting the items, I wouldn’t mind.

Dungeon armor is not TP related. That will give you exotics. Vision Crystals required to craft ascended is also account bound not tradable. You have to craft it.

I agree with one of the posters above. I think they are playing around with other acquisition methods perhaps karma is somehow in the mix. Crafting was done as the game needed some more sinks. That is what this most recent patch is for. Increase rewards but also increase sinks.

im talking about weapons, not armor. I know dungeon armor isn’t on TP and that’s good and it was fun having a goal in those dungeons. Now there’s none because everyone has what they wanted. In one year, what weapon/armor skin anet added that worked just like dungeon armors? One skin, Fractal weps. In one year we received one, while getting bombarded with multiple easy to acquire skins each update which you do nothing else but buy on tp or craft. This is not how an rpg should roll, even less so when talking about an mmo.

this plus when you look at other ascended items such as rings and how easy it is to obtain them, it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever adding a weapon that cost———-i don’t even know how much it would cost you, all i know its A LOT and waaaaaaaaay more than it should be.

At least they did the right thing and made ascended bound to the player this time around; buying a legendary off the market is like just buying a trophy and acting like you actually did something.

Hopefully, they made enough of the ascended crafting materials needed bound to the player this time round to make them actually somewhat of an achievement; if not yay for the TP kittens.

Thats kittened up, essentially forcing us into crafting to get the stats we want. What happened to the BLTC being a simulation of a real world economy such that they needed to emply an actual economist.

Farming fractals for days, I haven’t recieved a single vial of condensed essence. meanwhile guildies pick up 2-3 globs per run. It sucks.

Dungeons have become a forgotten part of the GW2 development. Aside from a revamp of AC and a few changes to dungeon gold, it hasn’t received attention at all, whether it be additional content, additional difficulty tiers, additional things to purchase with tokens, or whatever. Strange considering this is essentially GW2’s PVE endgame along with fractals. You’d think that it would be more of a focus.

Quite simply…. Players are not acting to their benefit in the economy. Like allowing crafting items to be sold for way too low of a price then what they expected. A lot more people craft then they expected. A lot more. Like most of the player base. They expected the other way around.
