I’d like to begin this by stating that I am aware that I probably am not aware of everything in terms of what Anet has planned for the game, why they do something one way and not the other. The following is merely my thoughts on a two items that came to my mind.

The first is the Kodan race. This race doesn’t appear to have a ton of lore so to speak, however I find the race itself extremely expressive and interesting. While we’re largely limited to human appearing races, such as the Human race itself, Sylvari whom are largely based on human design, and the Norn which are largely considered to simply be really big human (which is not the case), we have two races that are… what I’m going to call unique races. The Charr which seem to derive their many attributes and appearances from felines. The Asura is a race that I am not quite sure what you might base it’s appearance on, but unique in itself so that it does not appear human originated.

I actually think it’d be really neat to be able to play as a Kodan. I don’t think it’d be overly difficult to integrate since they have many norn placeholder animations already (which work fairly well, even if they were not to be changed). They in my opinion are much neater than the norn alternative that we are provided to play throughout the game. In truth I do not have a long elaborate argument for this point as it’s largely based on my own desire, seeing as how we can use the Kodan Tonic to be a Kodan for however long, would it truly be difficult to make Kodan a playable race in some form or another?

The second point is probably something more interesting than my own desire to see a race become playable. I’ve noticed that Anet in general has refrained from the ‘Mount’ idea that many other MMO’s have taken to doing. WoW for example has at certain level intervals, one can purchase a mount and move a little faster around the map. Honestly I don’t care for this.

I actually like that I am not slower throughout the game just because I’m lower level than someone else, or don’t have the money for a mount. I think the current system works and it’s nice. However I would by lying if I said that I didn’t love the aesthetics that come with having a mount. Not just any mount, but a sweet mount that I can stand idle and want to show my friends.

I feel like we’ve touched a similar thing in the past with the flying carpet and the flying broom. We could also throw in the little tunnel drill as well if we’re being nice. However these feel more as toys (the drill) than actual mounts.

What if Anet (yea, I’m talkin’ directly to you Anet!!!!) were to introduce an actual mount into the Gemstore. Granted this is an idea, so if they were to actually entertain the idea, they could go about it any way they desire of course. However, if it worked similarly to how the flying carpet, and broom work now (I.E. if you fall into combat, they’re removed) and are merely aesthetically pleasing… than would it be so bad?

In terms of money, you’d almost immediately make a killing on this sell just by itself, almost every RPer playing the game would throw money at the gemstore in hopes to get every mount there. Several other players, whom may simply PvP or PvE, are also likely to do so.

The game has it designed that you can customize just about everything you want to be exactly as you want it. I know I’ve changed both my armor and my dyes countless times, just because I get new ideas and like to change the scenery so to speak. If they were to come out with different ‘mount’ skins from time to time, it’s likely that they would continue making money off the very simple skin. Just look at the outfits that people will pay $10 to obtain (I myself have done so a few times).

They give you nothing, no stats… nothing more than mere appearance. In fact I think it’d be a good idea to integrate a system in which I could just buy a single piece from an armor set on the Gemstore, as in… I don’t want to buy the entire Phalanx set if I only want the shoulders!!! However, it goes to show that players love to look pretty and will pay money just to see it, even if it doesn’t help them stat wise.

What are your thoughts? Anet, what are YOUR thoughts?

Stop giving them ideas for the gem store. The game doesn’t need mounts. Kodan are interesting, but also a bit boring as bother genders are visually identical.

It doesn’t technically ‘need’ either one. And why not provide them ideas for the gem store? Think about it, if Anet had gone with a subscription based game, it wouldn’t have worked. However they chose a gem store, and through that have been quite successful. We as the community should tell them what we want, so that they, the developers, can maybe do so.

Because there is more than enough stuff in the gem store as is and not enough stuff to earn in game. In just the past 2 months, how much stuff has cycled through the gem store? And how much was added to the game? I think all that happened in game was the lunar festival back piece. Not terribly exciting.

Then perhaps you’re right and instead of adding it into the gemstore, they could integrate it into the upcoming expansion. Why not? At some point at the end of some amazing living story quest, we get a little… w/e it may be to ride around and be aesthetically pleasing? In that way, no spent money and you have to earn it to get it.

I think that a new race would need to be integrated into the personal story or have an entirely new PS created for them. Im not sure that core content of this sort would be a good addition to the gemstore unless part of a larger expansion. Perhaps when it comes time for a Shiverpeaks expansion.

Mounts make zero sense in GW2. We can port to any waypoint we want. Jumping Puzzles take into account our height and possible speed as they are now. Mounts would be useless visual clutter so you can collect a pretty thing. And they would probably unbalance pvp. I see no net positive. Other than you collecting a pretty pony.

Isnt collecting useless (cosmetic) shinies much of what GW2 is about?

Are all of your characters still using the starter weapon/armor skins?

No speed buff? So you want artists to waste their time making something more useless and requiring more effort than minis? Are you insane? Legitimately, are you? There are more important things that artists can be doing than wasting time on something that is less than useless. Their resources aren’t infinite.

No speed buff was integral to the suggestion, from the very first post in the thread. Perhaps I am not the one with reading comprehension issues ?

As mentioned before, collecting cosmetic options for your character has been a major part of the game since launch. Artists have been, “wasting,” their time on, “useless,” things such as weapon and armor skins since launch.

Since you skipped the question the first time around (perhaps that reading comprehension issue again) I will repeat it:

Do your characters all use the starter weapon and armor skins?

Or do you take advantage of useless, waste of artist time, purely cosmetic options?

The only cosmetics I have are armor and weapon skins. And those are there all the time. You can’t be on a mount all the time. You can’t fight on a mount. You can’t swim on a mount. I don’t use kites or transformations as I don’t like getting rid of my skillbar. Minis are too slow and just running often has them respawning next to you once they get too far away. So I will continue to say that mounts would be more of a waste of resources than any other vanity item in the game. Mainly because they have to create animations and rigging to the current models and would have to do so for every new mount. It’s bad enough they added in flying carpets that are essentially what you are asking for. They are useless and a waste of resources and I wish they weren’t in the game.

So while it may come in the future at somepoint, I don’t think it will be anytime soon. Mounts are pointless in GW2 though so im not for that idea.

Not a fan of playable Kodan, or any of the anthropomorphic races I’ve seen around Tyria. They’re all hideous, silly looking or lack distinguishing features.

I do think we could do with more interesting full-body cosmetic options for the current races though. Things like battle scars, tattoos and piercings for humans and norn, maybe thorns and creative bio-luminescent patterns for Sylvari.

I fail to understand all these posts and the inevitable flood of people saying “Don’t add mounts to gw2!!! It would be such a terrible waste/game breaking/thing i don’t want!!!!”

…. They already have introduced mounts. They are in game. The first one came out right after launch.

All people are asking for is more than three options. For crying out loud, we have a thousand minis and three new finishers every month. They could toss a couple extra mounts on the store and it would never affect any of you.

That said there is no reason the existing, and future mounts, couldn’t have a base +25% speed increase out of combat, in PVE only. Swiftness would still be faster, and it would save people from having to kitten their builds just to have that signet or trait saving them time between events.

Yes, I am sure you would all cry pay to win if it offered an out of combat speed bonus lower than every class has access to. I’m sure it would be seen as an insult to someones grandmother too.

Idea is sound except on the gem store part, it’s bad enough that certain marketing tactics are used but this? No, it’s evil enough to get implemented.
