Yes, I’am a vet, I’ve played since November of 2012, but I did not receive a gift.

I know why, its because I have not stayed with one character for that long
But My account proves I’ve been here for 3 years now! Oh ANET may I still get a birthday gift? Im so sad… I’ve learned my lesson and Iam staying true to one character for as long as GW2 remains! So please grant me a gift please? ~Cries~

Even if you had a character from November 2012, it still wouldn’t be 3 years because it’s currently August, not November.

if you have a character 3 years old, then you should get your reward ( only with that character ).

The gift is a BIRTHDAY gift, not a game anniversary gift. Your own post says you created your character in November. Is it November yet? No. So no matter how much you have played your character, you still won’t get a birthday gift before that characters birthday.

The reason so many get a birthday gift today is because many made their characters on the pre launch day. On the 28th you will see even more get a birthday gift as that is the actual launch anniversary date. A lot of my characters will get birthday gifts today as I pre ordered my game and got in the 3 day headstart but many of my characters were created later on and they won’t receive theirs till their birthdays roll around.

That assumes you still have the character you made in November 2012. If your comment about not staying with one character all that long means you’ve deleted the older alts, you’re stuck with the birthdays of the oldest alts you currently have.

Then you won’t get any birthday gifts for about 11 months, and for the 3rd birthday one it will be 2 years and 11 months, if you keep the character that long.

Except Birthday gifts are character bound, not account bound. Birthday gifts have been in the Guild Wars universe for over 10 years now so you knew that when you keep deleting your characters. You make the choices.

If you played since Nov 2012, you know how these character birthdays work yet you come here to complain. Really? It has been the same way year after year, so you have no excuses. You made a choice, by deleted your toons, not to have any birthdays. In no way should ANet start accommodating people’s bad decisions.

Whoa whoa, someone has an attitude. I’am in no way shape or form complaining. I did not fully understand the whole birthday situation even though I have played for 3 years, Its probably because I kept deleting toons.. I find it funny how you think I KNOW, how the character BDAYS work. Very mature of you to say…

The way the birthday system works is to award gifts on the yearly anniversary of the creation of each character. On the one hand, this means that each of your characters will receive birthday gifts when they reach their annual milestones. On the other hand, if you delete your characters before the yearly anniversary of their creation, you won’t receive a birthday gift. I know this is unfortunate for those of you who regularly delete and re-roll characters, but this is the way the birthday system works.

@Purecura

You’ve been posting on the forum for 2 years and the birthday presents are discussed each year on the forums both before and afterwards and I’ve seen them discussed in map chat also, as well as the presents being pinged. The level 20 scrolls which come from the presents have been repeatedly discussed and mentioned over the years as have the birthday boosters and the birthday cake blaster. There was plenty of posts that discussed either the presents directly or mentioned the contents of them for you to notice and ask over the 2 years you’ve been posting and get the information about birthdays. If you managed to miss all the information about this, well, now you know.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

@Just a flesh wound: Maybe it’s because the gift is much more interesting this year?

Who actually cared for the multiple lvl 20 Scrolls (except for Key runners), Queen Jenna^x or the Birthday blaster?

The birthday blaster is incredible, especially when used with a primer.

Birthday presents are probably one of the last things people are thinking about when buying character slots.

Birthday presents are the first thing I think about when deciding whether or not to reroll a character. I’m just glad I don’t have to anymore.

The incentive to do something is not always clear and obvious. Games with cash shop are masters in producing this kind of supply Vs demand.

Why should anyone that has an account since 2012 have deleted(not just not played, but deleted) all the characters he or she had if not for the reason to change a server for free? And as all was about stacking on the higher servers until Anet threw a brake on the practice, the incentive to delete your chars over and over again has diminished greatly.

Could be just to level. There was one post where a person said he had a guildie that only leveled chars. As soon as the char reached level 80, he deleted it. I’ve also read people who post and say they can’t settle on one char. They make one, play it for a while then delete to get a different look or a different profession.

/shrug. People play all sorts of ways and delete for numerous reasons.

Unfortunetly, this sucks for pre makeoverkit characters. One of my first characters was a Charr that I thought was too thin. He was ugly. Couldnt change it. Kept him for a while, debating if I should delete him or not. Eventually, I deleted him… And a month later makeover kit came out.

Birthday presents worked this way in GW1 also, long before any kind of cash shop existed. It has always been this way, on a character by character basis.
