I wanted to see if we could get together some general information from various players about their experiences up to this point; after 3 months. I’m also curious, for each, if they feel properly “rewarded” for their time spent; a sort of ROI, relative to loot. Hopefully many will input their experiences, to help compare time spent vs. returned luck / wealth. I would like to also include various other identifiers to further refine results.

As of now I’ve played over 1000 hours in-game since launch with one character. I don’t equate any sort of substantial enjoyment to materials things my character’s gotten or wealth they’ve gained. It is simply a game. Taking my time to explore the world, talk and listen to NPCs and learn the lore is what I enjoy. Loosing myself in the world so-to-speak. My character’s been lucky enough to meet and make some great friends whom are like-minded. To me that is true ‘wealth’, to use a somewhat crude term. With all due respect, personally I think your list is very narrow-minded for a ‘general overview’, sorry.

- just weapons…. 2-3 maybe. Mostly find armor.

- 0 exotics, maybe 1 rare weapon per fractal lvl 10+ run.

- 1 or 2…. I’ve gotten a number of cores, sold most of them and used some to made lodestones.

12. Do you craft? If so, do you have a 400 crafter? if so, how many?
- Yes, each toon has at least 2 lvl 400 professions (4 different ones total)

13. Do you sell your looted crafting mats? (specify optional)
- Depends on market and whether I need them for my legendary or if a buddy needs them for his rare/exotic pieces (never give the ectos, but scales/bloods/ore/whatever)

14. Do you feel your return, (in terms of items, completion, income, etc) for your time, has been worth it?
- Not really… Though I think the fractals do a better job at the rate which they drop certain things considering how many you need for stuff. Was never a fan of the precursors being RNG over skill-based.

15. In ONE word, what needs improved most; from your perspective?
- Horizontal Progression…. that actions or lack of actions taken throughout the world have real consequences.

14. That’s a pretty static way of judging a games value. I judge games by their entertainment value, and Guild Wars 2 scores very high in that regard

Long-standing bugs and glitches plague the game, specifically wvw is almost completely about exploiting weaknesses in the game rather than weaknesses in your opponent.

1) so long ago I feel so ancient I would say in game time prob 150yrs old
2) well bf was up in 900 followed closely my mom 800 and i was at 700 but catching up with until recently
3) me 26 bf 70 plus when i dont make him buy me pets and dyes and such
4) finished my 4th my bf level deletes them but he has 5 and my mom 5
5) my bf it was wvw and orr but he isnt playing anymore hardly me i just roamed around when i was on i made he come and follow me
6) we had started to and was really starting to enjoy the game and then after last game patch it seemed to just not work anymore and now the game is back to drab
7-15) well i never really paid attention my bf would cuz he needed to farm the gold for us to play with but loot is so far down that its a waste in his opinion. The game was extremely fun when were getting loot and their were dynamic events and people in the zones and stuff going on now that there isnt the game is drab and boring but its free so we invested in Rift and the expansion and are going to start back there the 4 of us we can check back here from time to time cuz its free if they ever get time enough to make it fun for the casual player again we might be back or we might continue to split or time between subscription games and this no need staying here beating our head against a wall I mean wow isnt casual friendly have like 15 80s there beat my head against a wall there thought this would be different was for a bit and then they lost it but was just like when Rift came out got like 2/3 max toons there so what ever will be will be looking forward to designing my own jump puzzle in rift in my own zone lawl prob wont be worth it but fun for a while

tried it for 3 weeks, didn’t notice positive change, stopped using it. keeping 9% on weapons though (3%, 3% – dagger set and 3% backpack upgrade, just in case)

during Karka battle, got the energizer and eir’s longbow, which are the only 2 i got…. ever

In terms of items & income; no – my main is fully equipped with exotics but I (/my brother) crafted every single item, I crafted every superior sigil, I purchased 99% of the T6 rare materials required to do so, I purchased every superior rune, and I purchased or crafted every item skin I transmogrified on to them. Never had a single exotic drop I could use (stats, skin or upgrade), nor been able to adequately gather any exotic-grade crafting materials other than nodes & ecto.

For my first toon, no. I held on to make my exotics. Then I sold some unneeded mats to make some gold to buy jewellry (before I made my jeweller) then I held onto my mats. I’ve spent less than 6g total on mats to buy across all my toons, to level their crafting. I wanted to ‘farm’ my own stuff. Rare mats made that near impossible.

If I look at the game as a single player game. I have more than gotten my money’s worth of it. If I look at it as an MMO, then no, I didn’t. I hit max level too quickly (I wasn’t trying, I was ‘just’ playing the game) aside from the rare materials, crafting was too chinsy, and Orr was just…horrible. And teh story line (which could have made up for all the games’ other faults) was badly done, making it another disappointment.

The game is good on a general level, but can easily go downhill if they don’t keep players immersed within Tyria (stat progression is not a real way to keep players immersed; it’s a distraction).

I want the next leg of the personal story to be leaps and bounds ahead of this one. The potential is definitely there, if the asura storylines and the whispers arc are to be believed. There are many characters that have been introduced and can be brought back and expanded upon and re-used, made dynamic, believable and relatable (rather than just creating new characters for every mission in the story – though, this aspect (character recycling?) was actually handled fairly well).

TL;DR: You have a stellar set of voice actors, some with impressive and long track records (i.e. Liam O’Brien). Push them. Make the dialog more natural and emotive. Bring back and expand upon the various characters you introduced. Make us care about them. And don’t always kill off likeable characters. By the end of the game, I was automatically assuming that every character I liked/cared about would invariably die. I was right 100% of the time. Of the characters I particularly liked, only Zojja and Gorr didn’t die horribly.

4 after about 6 hours working with mf to find the best mf option since the nerf. I was quite surprised. It’s usually nothing.

0 of the end game ones, 5 of the tier 4 completely worthless imo not even the runes are worth money.

yes, 400 huntsman, 400 jeweler, 400 chef, working on leatherworker.

Yes sometimes when I need gold. I go on farming runs where I determine which items are worth the most out of the mats gathered and go to those zones to get more.

14. Do you feel your return, (in terms of items, completion, income, etc) for your time, has been worth it? Not really, there’s plenty they could be adding for dynamic events in zones that aren’t maxed. We still haven’t seen fixes to common problems engineers have been experiencing since BWE3 and the loot system has been broken or nerfed on purpose for about a month now making it impossible for anyone outside of dungeoneers from progressing or supporting themselves.

15. In ONE word, what needs improved most; from your perspective?
Loot. The problems with professions one can work around until they fix them, the problems with the new gear will be solved over time, the meta events that exist now are workable for daily needs. The biggest and most important problem on their minds should be loot outside of dungeons. Removal of DR, fixing champion vet drops, making MF work at a normal number and not some outlandish amount to see anything drop at all, and drop rates especially. Drop rates have been the worst since about a month ago and the game is becoming a ghost town because of this (as well as the community outrage over the sudden dungeon focus.)

Basic Format:
1. Had the game from Beta, but I’m only playing it for a month because my PC was a bit ruined before

3. I remember having about 9G and spending it. I don’t keep my gold in the bank normally, so I average on 3 gold on a character.

5. 70-80 zone, farming trolls for powerful blood if I feel like it, AC dungeon because it’s fun, I’m not that worried about money, but if I seriously needed it I would probably run fractals as well because I tried them and they seem fun.

13. If I know that I’m going to need them I save them up, if I feel like I won’t need them any time soon I sell them. Example – I have a leatherworker, but she is only a beginner and because I already outfited all the squishies that me and my boyfriend has I feel like selling gossamer is better than saving it up. Lower level items like cotton and linen though I keep.
