Sooo I’ve been thinking ((and searching)). I figured that making a new playable race and their own custom story would be a hassle and extremely time consuming to the modderators and creators of gw2…but I can’t help but wonder if there is a way around the whole “Create a -new- story per race” idea. Call me lazy, but I think it’ll be easier for everyone related to GW2 to just purchase an unlockable race and have them take place in an already created default player race storyline. For example: You unlock the Skritt race and you would instead be playing a servant/test-subject/guinea-pig for the asura or maybe charr and instead of being labeled as Savant by Asura or Legionairre/Soldier for Charr you’ll be considered something…lesser like a test subject # or maybe worm/maggot from the charr. If this is the wrong catagory I am SOO sorry. But uhh thoughts anyone?

The problem is not just the story.

A new race requires a rework of all armor currently in the game, a new starting zone and city, new ambient voicing, new voice acting for the entirety of the Personal Story, 9 new cultural armor sets, new skill animations, a new dance and many more things that I know I have missed.

As much as I would love to see a new race, with a game as in depth in the character creation/development process as GW2, a new race is a MASSIVE undertaking.

The problem is: what does a new race really add to the game?

Its like you just install a mod that overrides the textures/modell of your char with something else, nothing else would change.

Considering the massive effort needed to make a new race, there is very little return.

Even making a new race a glorified Tonic and selling it in the gemstore probably wouldnt be profitable.

If they add in a new race, I’d rather it be a completely new personal story. Learn about that race.

@Cherokeewill – Maybe not -just- the story but it would subtract -some- of the problems.

@Arkinos – I think it adds variety, perticularily for those who enjoy playing/being/roleplaying their character also the fact that a mere 5 races may be a step up from the single 1 human race in Gw1 but it still very limited and in the player mindset would you prefer having a good amount of options but still being minimal or would you have a limited amount of both race and work. I’m just putting this up as a open thought for an entrepreneur-friendly way of acquiring an -optional- player race without minimal effort for it to fit in. I know there is costumes/illusion/yadda-yadda but you either need A: Alot of time, money and patience to get the item required for it and B: to use it’s own unique attacks that are useless in-game battle majority of the time.

@Seera – I agree but sadly an equal amount of people much like the people above your last post feel that way as we feel this way. I was merely giving an idea for open-minded people to see if there is indeed a way to reduce problems but still see if it was possible to acquire. Also if it was in the Gem Store it’ll most likely be bought via Real World Currency thus they would be -paid- for the effort should it be a success. Perhaps they should hold a public vote or survey.

Ideas like this are just giving NCSoft/Nexon a reason to make GW2 into a PtW game. If they think they can make $$$ off it they will try it.

new race = several new environments or changing existing ones which would not be cool.
a new city, or entire rework of npc locations and some changed to an existing city (although ALL zones, and cities would need to be changed slightly)

armors weapons, animation work. textures. background story. trying to tie them into whats going on now and what has happened although none of us seen squat from most other races

and a long discussion before the decision of which race to build. oh and all of these things would be done over..and over..and over..and over….because the first run at things like a video game hardly ever are what makes it to the final product. I guess in short that nahhhhhhhh I rather they work on something useful and new rather than just a different doll to dress

Tengu must be added. If it has to be some 2000-5000 gem unlock or something, so be it. But it must be done.

Just keeping an open mind.

@Galphar – Well I was hoping to just give an idea open. Plus I honestly don’t think they are going to add any races at all unless they feel it is worth it. Sooo I thought it best to give them a sorta “I scratch your back you scratch mine” maybe I was hanging around -other- mmorpg games that kinda run that way but honestly I kinda feel that there is gonna be compromise to either the player or the developer and normally the player population are usually never happy as a whole in such a situation so it’s safer to lay it as an optional thing.

@poisonality – Well I agree actually and I think races will come MUCH later as gw2 is at the point of creating epic storyline and plots for players to explore through, not to mention a vast world to roam with points of interests, vistas & so much more. So yeah, races shouldn’t be main priorty but rather a side project or something to work on a later date.
