“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Praise Grenth! Going to help so much when I want my fool of a Mesmer to quit her yelling every 2 seconds.
dragons, I sometimes wonder if we’ll ever find a way to save us from ourselves.”
Agreed! Though I will admit that there are certain races and classes (and even genders of certain races/classes) that I can stand more than others. This will be useful for the ones I don’t care for. No longer will have to hear “We heal as one!” over and over with my Rangers, sheesh. Most other Ranger dialogue is fine.

Ty ty ty. Those unceasing comments was one of the big reasons I turned dialog off. Now to try dialog back on again.
ANet may give it to you.
A nice addition but I probably wont use it as these things don’t annoy me. Actually one thing does annoy me that I wish they would change. That being every time I use both my dodges the silly out of endurance speech is said. Why is it said? I know I am out of energy no need to tell me every time! You should only be told that if you try and dodge a third time……
I will not use this option just to avoid that as I like hearing all the other chatter. So please anet, address the dodge dialogue.
Edit: Oh just thought of another annoying thing. Rangers saying “I chose you” when they change pets. Chose? Shouldn’t be choose? O.O

Chose is past tense. Which is appropriate since you have to tame and equip pets in advance before you can swap to them.

THIS is absolutely awesome! I am so, so, SO happy to see this implemented. I love my Ranger, and I think her shouts are charming, but dear heavenly Dwayna, I have been hearing them far too often. So it appears that I can choose to continue to hear the story lines or the tips — like Trahearne’s “Go for Bram” or “She’s vulnerable!” type of messages in the Mordy fight — but I can elect to not hear “We heal as one!” hundreds of times a day.

And huge thanks to the Sound Team for making this possible!

B-but… how will I know how my running speed compares to that of a centaur?

Yes but you are saying it as you are choosing your next pet to use. So what you are saying should be related to what you are doing, not something you did maybe months or years ago……
Makes no sense to me.
After years of having the dialogue turned off I turned it back on today. An NPC ran up to me and for the first time since shortly after launch I heard an NPC speak and ask for help. I had almost forgotten they would do that.
ANet may give it to you.
I’m happy the Devs have heard player feedback and pleased those that this affects. I’ve read many posts about this issue, but it has never bothered me. I rarely hear any other character, and I guess I’ve tuned out my own…not sure.
Anyway, thanks, Devs! =)
Very nice!
Now I have hope that someday I can silence that most annoying weapon ever, The Dreamer, without muting everything else.

Don’t underestimate the STRENGTH OF THE PACK. Because they often HEAL AS ONE.
Love this! I haven’t played with sound on for almost 3.5 years, and I forgot how amazing the ambient dialogue from NPCs was. Unfortunately, I discovered my salvage-o-matics have dialogue that isn’t muted by this new option.

Yeah. I noticed that too. Lol. I might start hitting the mute button if I have a lot to salvage.
ANet may give it to you.
Weird, I really like it that aspect. Apparently I am the only one. Especially in huge fights it’s just a part of the ambience to hear characters yell and shout different stuff. The chance my Asura is talking is also way too low, some lines I haven’t heard since I started. For example, the unneccessarily cryptic Asuran way of saying “I am bleeding” was new for me until the last month.
This night I only heard some player a few meters next to me being downed because she yelled that she would need help over there. Of course, there is also a mini map, but I play by watching the main screen, so the acoustical clou was helpful and something that lacks in games like e.g. FF14, where everyone is silent, as if fighting about dear life is someting you do blindfolded..
Nice to have it as on option, but weird that I am the only one enjoying player chatter so far. That could mean in future games this is not implemented and that would be very, very lackluster in the audio department.

@Zedek, I enjoy it aswell and won’t be turning this option on. Hopefully everyone is happy now.
I like the voices. It makes the game feel more alive.
“Urge to kill rising!”
So I won’t be muting player chatter.
“I’ve obtained the awesome!”
The voices in this game are well done.
“Look at this! So pretty.”

Finally, I absolutely have to praise the addition of this option. Not because it affected me that much, strange enough I was fine with my 2 sylvari main telling me how roselike they are, but I swear I was close to commiting centaur genocide just so my human characters would forget about them.
I love arenanet giving us the option to specifically deactivate the dialoge. I bet with a small break for most it will be nice to hear the VO again in the future.
Now if there was an option to have the Replica Job-o-Tron Backpack VO without actually having to have the skin active… Best line ingame: “Score—update: gravity—1, you—0.”.

We request muting NPC chatter may the stars guide you and we get option to turn off PC chatter? Is this some way of Anet making a joke?
Anyway, it’s aprecciated but we would still like an option to turn off town NPC chatter interactions.
As others have said, now we need an Option to turn off NPC chatter other than that of NPC chatter in cutscenes/storylines unless players choose to mute their Dialogue Volume entirely. Please implement this.

You aren’t the only one, Zedek.
I like hearing other people too. Makes the game seem more alive to me.
Hearing a sylvari run past me shouting to the world,
‘I feel FURIOUS!’
still makes me chuckle and grin.
… The human race would never have to worry about be oppressed again.”
I think trolls should have their computers smashed. ’Its all part of the game. U mad bro?’
One strange thing with the PC these days is that mine will yell something like, ‘That will leave a mark!’ or ’That’s got to hurt!’ as if to taunt the NPCs she just hit, but it happens when they hit me! Is my character taunting herself now? I don’t remember this happening before.
Well, I personally get a kick out of following my gf around Tyria on my elementalist swapping attunements and handing out boons. “Will you shut that stupid thing up already!” LoL
So, she thanks you!
Thanks Anet for the player chatter option
We also need a skill called [Duct Tape] that applies 60 mins of silence to NPCs
that have annoying dialog. (Mist warrior recruiters I’m looking at you)

Does this mean I can dust off my human males as they will no longer feel their urge to kill rising? I’m going to go test it out…
But but…. how will I tell the world I am faster than a centaur?
I happen to like the audio emotes. They are part of the tempo of the game for me, they let me know stuff is happening, and as another poster said above, the calls for help when downed are frequently how I notice someone needs help and lets me get to them in time to save them (though I am amused that sometimes the call for “a little sup_pooort_!” come when I’ve 90% rezzed them and they are clearly getting a lot of support ).
That said, I know the sound bites have driven many crazy, and I have a guildie who is thinking of turning her male ranger female again now that she won’t have to hear the emotes. So yay for options!
Nice to have it as on option, but weird that I am the only one enjoying player chatter so far.

I love the chatter. I’ll be leaving mine on. It’s nice to have the choice at last, though, all the same.

I had this same experience on my old computer. I NEVER heard my own chars speak and rarely heard other people’s chars speak either. As soon as I got my new computer recently however I started hearing them all and it was like a new game to me. So it must have been sound issues for my old computer which I had always suspected.
As others have said, hearing those queues by downed players can be very helpful and immersive too. So again, this is a good reason as to why I wont be turning them off. But those 2issues that I mentioned I wish they would address lol.
My pet George will confirm that he and I still are healing as one, even if we’re not actively telling the world about it.

Wow, what an improvement. I took my human male ranger out today, got him a tiger and bristleback and he didn’t annoy me once. Looks like it’s back to playing human males.
This’ll be good when I want to use Signet of Inspiration.
But otherwise I’ll probably leave the chatter on – I like hearing all those lines.
As other people have mentioned, it would also be nice to have an option to turn off NPC (non-cutscene/PS/LS) chatter.

There is also an Asuran line that has this “reversed view” sort of thing. I never understood what my long-eared guy meant with “(Have been) hit.. gotta make some notes” (or whatever, I play in German). Due to the wonky translation of German <→ English, it was always open if he means that “I have been hit” or the “enemy has been hit.” He just says “getroffen”. It turned out he meant he got hit. Weird. Why would I need to say that? There are plenty of “uff”, “ugh”, “uh!”, “ah!” to choose from^^
and politically highly incorrect. (#Asuracist)
“We [Asura] are the concentrated magnificence!”
I despise the Sylvari, “This rose has thorns! And here they are!” It’s awful, but I get it from other players every so often. Maybe not enough to activate this option, but It’s great that it is available just in case I’m in a funky mood one day
But.. but.. your character wants to tell you they could outrun centaurs!
I belong in the same boat as some of the posters above; sometimes I like the chatter, sometimes I don’t. Having the option to turn it off when I want to is great. I can FINALLY play a Mesmer without wanting to put my fist through the screen when I equip a particular signet.
That said, I’d still like an option to turn off the ughs, aghs, grunts and groans the toons make, like that Human Female “AIGH!” exclamation…squeak…whatever, that is SO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from the otherwise rather enjoyable voice, especially if said Human Female is supposed to be a battle-hardened, dragon-smooshing veteran. Kinda immersion-breaking. Like a tiger that suddenly goes ‘meow’.
Personally think there are more important issues to fix than this… but ok.
But now you can’t hear which roses have thorns! Or where they are.
Which reminds me, now I can roll a Sylvari elementalist. One little change and the possibilities seem endless.
B-but… how will I know how my running speed compares to that of a centaur?
Which do you mean? An Elonian centaur or a Central Tyrian centaur?
