If I wanted to work as a QA Tester I would change my job
I’m not going to run around and search for bugs after launch. I’ll however report any bugs I encounter during my normal play session. And about that “common sense” – it doesn’t always work on things we encounter for the first time.

It does. If you visit the Vendor as the first Thing you do in the game, you can not buy things from him because you have no Karma. To get the Karma, you go out into the World and earn Karma. If you get 500 Karma for a simple Task and are able to buy 250 Rare Weapons with it, your common sense should be tingling, otherwise you are a lost case :-)

And Arena Net did not ban People that bought only a few Weapons for themselves at that Price, they banned the Idiots that abused it and got rich with it. If you buy hundreds of weapons at that Price, you are totally aware that something is wrong with this Price and deserve to be banned.

Sounds to me like you guys already know of some exploit bugs that wont be fixed at launch.

Sounds to me that bugs that cause problems that could be exploited are a given whenever you’re dealing with ANY piece of software.

It has been my general experience that the type of people who play mean and cheat aren’t the type of people who would abruptly stop just because the devs asked them to.

I don’t have opinions. I only have facts I can’t adequately prove.

~snip~
For example, maybe that vendor is selling items for 1/100th of their sell value, or perhaps an escort event spawns an infinite number of instantly respawning loot piñatas when you cause the NPC to get stuck.
~snip~

And how should we know that it’s not intended? That’s some bad attitude here. We’ve seen this happen – after vanilla launch people were banned for the “karma weapons exploit” (and I wasn’t one of them if you ask). Some of them had no idea that it was not intended. I’m all about banning exploiters and hackers but in situations like these, cases should be triple-checked.

How do we know? Let’s take your karma example. I saw that very karma item on a list with many other items of the same exact type and one single item was much much cheaper. Same level, same set. It was just cheaper. I knew, pretty much right away it was a bug.

And I bought one. The people who got banned bought hundreds. Anything that’s THAT profitable that you can just go and buy hundreds and make money, how can you NOT know it’s an exploit. Remember the people banned weren’t people that bought a dozen of them. They were people who bought hundreds.

If that didn’t ring alarm bells, I don’t know what would.

Just a little question … an exploit already ruin the game , even if its “fixxed” …. so ? How should this prevent anything ? Until you guys get it .It’s maybe already to late ? For example that heart bug which gave you 10 k or so ? as bandit crest ? quite alot ? and got way too late fixxed ? So yeah … the damage result will be still there …

Sorry but this posting just makes me laugh so much.

Nice community is pretty darn subjective from one individual to another.

As for asking us nicely to be good people and report exploits bugs etc for you.. well yeah sure, for many of us that goes without saying, but it sounds to me that ANET have already identified things but aren’t going to delay launch in order to fix them.
As for exploits in general, how can you ask players to take this seriously when ANET themselves muddy that idea in the current core game in allowing the endless purposeful failing of events and event chains in order to exploit the reset timers for personal gain.. how long has this kinda stuff been reported up and ANET come back and suddenly allow the exploitation of game mechanics. Sure things have the ability to fail but to allow them to be endlessly exploited like the Jofast events without making any effort to complete… makes this request to be nice just plain silly season.

Then take a read at others that have posted here about the level of hacking that has and continues to happen in WvW.. I still have cold sweats over the invisible golem hacks, the Mesmer flying portals, the speedhacks.. and lately the re-occurrence of the resource node hackers, the AFK faming exploiters… fix the stuff, manage those nice rules and policies you have implemented (yes LFG abuse I am looking at you), instead of sending emails to advise your not penalising this or that at the moment – then you might get more players to take this kind of request seriously.

That’s it.

Like precursor speculation at game release ( plus chinese farmer goldseller. banned the seller, but not the buyer ).

Remove mail to avoid trade without tp should be a start ( i like trading by mail, but if this can help fix the game, i’m ok ). Also an account check ( to see gold incrases or items bought at least ).

I dont agree with the vendor one being an exploit… Its just people simply dont know about the vendor selling items for cheap, and the price on the tp is high, because there is a demand… buying it for cheap from a vendor and sellint it is anything but exploit…

I’ve sent recorded video and screenshots of players exploiting/hacking in WvW to that email in the past and nothing had ever happened to them and they continued to exploit. Either email’s sent to that specific address forward straight to trash or you guys don’t care about exploiting.

Skipping bosses in dungeons is one thing and is even sometimes justified (opportunity to do so plus that particular one drops no loot anyway by going friendly) whereas in WvW it has no excuse whatsoever because it effects other players. Some people use speed hacks because they just care about winning and don’t want putting in the work for such skill.

“As for exploits in general, how can you ask players to take this seriously when ANET themselves muddy that idea in the current core game in allowing the endless purposeful failing of events and event chains in order to exploit the reset timers for personal gain.”

If everything weren’t so expensive (100 gold for the icy runestones required to make a legendary and more than that for t3 cultural armor for example) and the reset timers were much faster and reprogramming it so that winning triggers the current losing benefits then people could have the same benefit without exploiting per se.

I hope you will use some judgement on use of exploits!

To take your example of a vendor having things at a much lower cost. What if that vendor is behind several masteries? How is a player supposed to know if it is a bug or a reward for the accomplishment, ie, intended or not intended? Outside of the BWEs we have not seen this content (and even what we saw has changed) so it is hard to know what to expect.

Unfortunately those are not exactly defined. For example, I usually sport a LGBT tag … which would be a HUGE no-no in some countries (I read one international person complaining that the transgendered NPC was offending his country’s & religion’s mores so she had to go to avoid him seeing her). There is also the problem that a perfectly innocent word in one language may be not so in another.

…. But how will we know what is and isn’t a bug?

What if you designed something be be rewarding for once!?

MY MIND CAN NOT HANDLE THIS!!!!!~

On a serious note… knowing what a bug is in this game requires an understand of the general feeling of the game, something that free-to-play players may or may not have given how astute they are.

As far as exploits go, good luck with that. Its proven track record y’all don’t do anything about it except in extreme cases… or if you happen to be in a bad mood that day…

Yeah, I’m sure anet would dismiss any complaints about an LGBT tag. I’m thinking of guilds that have innocuous names which can be shortened to offensive acronyms which are then used as the guild tag. It’s usually fairly obvious in those cases that someone was just trying to get something past the censors.

It’s a friendly reminder from a staff member, who is going out of his way to communicate with the community. Something that used to be begged for.

For some, it may be reassuring to know that their friendly neighborhood Banhammer Man™ is on patrol and ready to respond if you see something problematic.

I guess there is some open wound that a few people feel this is pouring salt into, but I’d advise you to take it for what it is (a friendly communication from the GW2 team), report something if you see it (if you feel like it), and let them do the rest. They are not asking us to discern what is and isn’t an exploit – that’s their job. Nor will we always agree with them on what is and isn’t an exploit.

Our “job” is to enjoy the game. The rest is optional. In fact, we don’t even have to enjoy it. We can hate it too, if we like. :p

P.S. Some food for thought for the road… not all issues are easy to fix. Hate to be the breaker of illusion here, but code is not magic and some bugs are hard to address. Call me a GW2 apologist tonight. Next week, I’ll be a hater. You never know.

Exploits
Let’s talk about exploits. Exploits can be described as the abuse of a bug or unintended game design to gain an advantage over other players. For example, maybe that vendor is selling items for 1/100th of their sell value, or perhaps an escort event spawns an infinite number of instantly respawning loot piñatas when you cause the NPC to get stuck.

Any chance the CoF experience exploit will get a nerf any time soon? It’s already well known and seems to fit your description of an exploit perfectly (especially when people are turning on action camera and putting objects on their mouse buttons so they can farm it while afk).
