While i know back in 2014 it was announced guild wars 2 (sadly) wouldn’t be coming to console, im slightly hopeful they might reconsider due to the number of MMO’s on Pc that have, came or coming, to console.

Surely im not the only one?

The problem is that the game is not even remotely close to being built for a console.
Most (all?) other MMOs that have come to console have been built with console play in mind.

Hook your computer up to a TV and add a controller. If you want the full GW2 console experience, set your screen size to 640×480 and put GW2 on the lowest possible settings. GW2 is too CPU dependent for consoles.

Is playing GW2 with a controller even possible? Since I don’t own a console and never will, I can’t comprehend how you’re supposed to keybind 10 different skills to only 8 or so buttons. And how do you even chat with a controller? Are there really people capable of writing whole sentences within 1.5 seconds on a controller? You don’t get much more time than that during an event.

Also I could imagine that ground-targeting on console is really difficult, but then again there are people capable of playing shooters on console, so the stick must be somewhat capable of replacing a mouse.

The problem with consoles (their hardware) is that they are great when announced, good when released, outdated after a year and old after two years.
The same goes for PCs obviously. But you CAN upgrade a computer but not a console.
So you can develop new content, designed for faster computers, use new directx versions etc. on PC but not on console.
If a game has a console version, content always has to be playable with the console, even after 5 years on a dead system.
So consoles are the biggest brakes in game development.

And because of that I truly hope that never ever ANet thinks about any port of GW2 for consoles, tablets or any other hardware brakes. Better use resources for future-proof engine upgrades, performance optimizing and support of new technologies for an even better gaming experience.

Look forward not back!

Too late. They actually did consider it. For one reason or another it was never developed however.

I find it hard to imagine myself but I know there are actually people who manage to play GW2 with a controller.

Confirmed not happening.

  • They said it.
  • They don’t even have resources to fix the bugs and the Mac client.
  • We have enough clueless useless players already, getting people with controllers is not really what I anticipate in the game with “challenging group content” promised.

if console players get their own servers
sure

because controls for guildwars on console would be much more unprecise in comparison to pc…

tell me how you want to aim your teleports properly??
you would die so fast in pvp as a console player vs a pc player…
and in PvE you would drag everyone else down….

I’ll pass.

Keeping such games on PC dictates a certain demographic of player and quality of game. Imagine….just for a second….console players having access to this game…..

By the pubic hair of Zeus’s scrotum…it would be a complete train wreck of tanty, QQ, trolling and disaster.

I’m all for a good MMORPG release on consoles, just not this franchise thx.

Even trying to bind keybinds to a controller will let you see that there aren’t enough buttons on said controller. Well at least if you want a good margin of flexibility.
If you play ursan style like in GW1 a Guitar Hero guitar works, but well GW1 allowed following team members.

Not all console-only players are bad. Only most of them.

But I don’t think there’s a console out right now that can handle the demands of GW2, and certainly don’t think theres a controller that can accommodate a full skill bar.

Don’t think it would be worth the venture to give players low quality, crippled access to a game that’s already well established on PC.

Thx, but no thx. See what this has done to TESO…a monstrosity from day 1 onwards owing this to the implementation on consoles later on. This game is broken beyond repair. So no, GW2 is more than fine as it is without kittening consoles. #PCmasterrace

The only reason to port this to a console (as far as I can tell) is to have the ability to use a controller. You can do that. Register on the below forum and see this page. I use an Xbox 360 controller with 1 button each mapped to 1 function, in order to coincide with Anet’s policies. Btw, the xpadder app is free and fully customizable and you can save unlimited templates.

You basically bind a “shift” button to one or more buttons on your controller and VOILA! instant second/third/fourth/etc set of buttons.

I still use the mouse and keyboard when I’m in towns, but I use the controller for all fights. It’s WAY easier than you might think. I personally mapped my controls very similar to Halo Reach.

I got Diablo 3 on the 360 after playing it for 2 years on the PC.

The WORST inventory mechanics EVER. Skills were all over the place on the controller, scattered across whatever buttons were available during combat.. it’s a nightmare.

Scenario 1

  • Go to Maw during peak time when it is also a daily
  • During the battle, open up your options and look at your FPS
  • Now, imagine if you were on a console

Scenario 2

  • Go to Maw during peak time when it is also a daily
  • During the battle, open up your chat menu and look at the caliber of conversation
  • Now, imagine if you opened it up to console

There are enough buttons but what would seem difficult is trying to do something like strafe + turn camera + use skill all at the same time.

On the other hand you can always click on the skills to activate and there is already an autotarget setting. Maybe not the most effective setup but should be fine for open world stuff and dungeons(if stacking). So that is directional pad to move, 1 analog stick for the camera and 1 stick for the cursor, and one button to click.

What about Steambox? The only major necessary work may be setting up a controller scheme. Although not having the use of voice communications could be a problem.

Not all console-only players are bad.

I love consoles, still use them. The Atari 2600 was my introduction to gaming.

In saying my 7 year old niece has a console…so do all her friends. My buddies 11 year old son has one…as does all his friends….etc, etc. They really do corner and cater to the younger demographic which is awesome.

I don’t know any children that age that regularly game on PC’s outside flash games or Facebook. Sure access to one but not regularly or seriously game on it.They gun for the console. To make things clear I’m not out to get into console vs PC wars or deny children the joy of gaming….I was, still am, that kid…

…but…

Imagine for a second the impact thousands of players of such a young age on voice chat that have little idea of the complexity of a game like this would have on the game world and meta.

Fubar.

In saying if age restrictive servers came out I’m all good for it but play a FPS on a console.Pug that game…..it can be painful. MMORPG’s on PC are largely a niche market. Going console opens it up to the masses and would have to be tightly controlled in order to keep the community and meta stable.

That wouldn’t matter unless ANet decides to add builtin voice com. Even if they did the PC users would just continue to use their own mumble/ts/vent servers like they do now. The kids can be kids to each other I guess.

Based on personal experience in game and from other people posts here and on reddit it seems there are already plenty of “children” playing GW2 anyway.

NO.

If game comes to console it limits targeting and mechanics. I don’t want another console feeling game, so this is my reason why this is bad idea. Down grading awesome game like this is fail… Just like Smite… they made it console and game suddenly became unplayable. LOL

sadly

I aint sad at all, means the developers don’t have to waste time completely ruining the game just so it can be downgraded for consoles.

MMO’s were never meant for console, and that’s the harsh truth, many have tried… DC Universe, Elder Scrolls, Final Fantasy… they all failed, why? because the console lacks the capacity to support large scale evolving MMOs like GW2

Hmmm, I think the last time I got a console, it was SEGA Genesis before Sonic the Hedgehog came out. I’ve been pc only ever since.

War Thunder (a game I was playing until last October) figured out how to mix pc and console players. As it turned out, the console players were pretty easy to kill.

To be fair, War Thunder is a completely different game.

Guess why they weren’t very good?

because they were designed with the restrictions that consoles bring with them. Reduced processing power, minimal rendering, capped graphical settings, poor server handling, update taxation and scarce bug fixes.

Granted, P2P doesn’t make it easier (I don’t recall DC Universe being sub based though), but it’s like sawing your own legs off because you’re too tall to enter the ball pit; you’ve seriously damaged yourself just to play in the kids area.
