Please Gods Anything But SAB.

On the list of things to spend developer time on SAB is at the bottom of the list.
What ever they decide to do, I just care we get xp that counts towards the Mastery Points.
I don’t know if it is only me, but mini-games make MMORPGs more engaging to me. While epic story-lines are great, taking some time off to run around exploring or having a jumping puzzle or two to succeed at always make things more intersting.
Jumping puzzles is one of the features that I enjoy the most in GW2 and I wouldn’t mind SAB coming back eventhough it is really unlikely. In the coming month we are having updates to HoT and then comes Christmas. After Christmas, we are gonna probably start with LS season 3.
They have already stated SAB will come back and a sizeable population would like to see its return. Personally I can’t wait for its return.
Remember SAB appeals to the nostalgia group of us who did and still enjoy that style of play as well as what GW2 offers. It isn’t a mode that will have an affect on someones gameplay if they choose to avoid it, so it really isn’t an issue to have it back in game.
@ Warlock. Ill tell ya I didn’t much care for the SAB either. But I know ALOT of people that did. As long as it doesn’t become a “Hey were gonna pop a SAB every month” thing im okay with it.
I don’t like it. But as long as others do its worth working on. And last I checked SAB has a massive following.
But gods when that thing enters the game again ill be avoiding major cities like the plague.
Not a fan either, but I don’t want others that enjoy it to suffer. I just wish I could turn off mini sounds because it seems the most annoying minis come out of that place!
I overheard some people talking in Lion’s Arch and I hope they were trolling. they said SAB is currently being fixed and coming back. I hated SAB and I breathed a sigh of relief when the date it happens rolled by without SAB, so i’m sending a forum prayer to the gamer gods with the hope that SAB will not return. the playstyle of SAB went out of date in the 80’s. I do not want the dev team wasting their time on coding levels with Super Mario Brothers movement and Legend of Zelda combat(grab improvised weapon and attack with it whack a’mole style). gw2 is a cutting edge game and it’s content should be cutting edge as well. 8 bit graphics and the above coding barely kept me entertained when I was 8 let alone now. I want my character with gw2’s advanced combat mechanics in all nonmini-game content.
“Quit liking things I don’t like”
SAB isn’t my cup of tea either; however, I’m not going to (try to) deprive those that do like it of its content. If Anet decides to bring SAB back, all well and good. Means I can take the time and catch up on other stuff.
If I remember correctly the original SAB release was made by about 5 people, and a lot of it was done in their free time because they weren’t originally intending it to be part of GW2, they were just building it on that engine because they had all the tools available to them.
Which implies that it wouldn’t take many people or much time to add more to it. They could probably do it while working on other stuff.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I loved SAB Got like, 7 yellow weapons. Just as some people dislike SAB some people really love it. I think it would be nice if they could finish the content and release it permanently, then focus on the main game again. I think it’s nice to have something so refreshingly different available for those who like it.
And hey, maybe if they make those checkpoints actually ‘save’ points it won’t be as difficult for more people to complete the maps.
• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •
SAB is great, I would love to see it return.

As for the topic. SAB? Yes please. Love it. It’s awesome. I cherish everything I own from it. Gimme more when you can.
Is that true?
But yes SAB please, let my ICC have some use!!!
Personally I don’t care for SAB. But nothing forces me to play it. I say: Bring it on.
You just hate fun Warlock, no need to ruin it for everyone else.
Good thing we don’t let singular individuals determine what content other people get to enjoy.
Indeed, I can not wait to see SAB!
Calling Poe’s Law on OP.
SAB ftw
On the list of things to spend developer time on SAB is at the bottom of the list.
Well that can’t be true because that would mean something rated lower than dungeons.
" the playstyle of SAB went out of date in the 80’s."
ya nevermind that mario still does well, half the indie games are practically puzzle solve platformers, oh and how 8 bit nvr died but got adopted by indie hipster fads. Minecraft….
nevermind the fact that one of the appeals of GW2 is jump puzzles….
Chose the wrong game imo
Personally I don’t care for SAB. But nothing forces me to play it. I say: Bring it on.
I can either get new content which usually comes with new achievements or I can be “forced” into completing SAB content to get AP. my goal is full hellfire gear and so I must go where the AP is at my level of AP, things to do are getting kinda scarce. and I need like 34k total or something like that. so yes please do New content that is not SAB so that I can squeeze AP out of that rather then Mario land. also I saw someone mention this as a minigame. it is not it is full content activities like the crab toss are gw2 minigames. if SAB was a 1-3 level minigame, I would have no complaints about it’s graphics or content. but it isn’t it’s basically a full festival.

Dungeons are not even in the list.
Good thing you can choose not to play it, while others do.

If you want to play a cutting edge game, play one of these mainstream shooter games. There’s even a MMORPG like that on consoles.
GW2 is fortunately a bit more diverse, and caters to more styles.
Also, nobody forces you to play SAB. Why ask to keep out content you don’t like. As it is, others enjoyed it very much, and SAB has been one of the top activities players asked to return.
Enough of the paying playerbase would like to see it come back. So nuts to you OP!

Funny, I haven’t heard that they’ll only release SAB once they are done releasing new content for GW2.
Just because they turn SAB back on doesn’t mean that ANet is done adding new content with new AP to the game. And considering it was only a small group of people on their downtime at work who developed SAB in the first place, I highly doubt the development of the next part of SAB will hinder any development of other means to get AP.

the last rpg that was any fun was diablo2. other then that gw1 and gw2. fps is an FPS game it is not an rpg no matter how much destiny tries to claim it. some games that people have claimed were good but actually weren’t: dragon age inquisition/skyrim/ES Oblivion/WoW/Destiny/Diablo 3. gw2 is my cutting edge rpg and currently the only rpg on the market worth playing. I play the best game on the market(IMO) and if it wasn’t I would be playing what is.
I don’t mind Sab but I agree… Zero new dungeon content with the expac and the first dungeon they might add is rehashed content. Maybe something different first before sab makes a return?
Nah, the gemstore is always hungry.
Maybe you don’t like it because you didn’t grew up playing that kind of games,
there’s a lot of people in here that really enjoy retro gaming, and SAB is a great way to get that nostalgia feel inside their favorite “modern” game.
If you don’t like it, fine, don’t play it. Is that simple, no need to make forum threads.
Asking for something not to be implemented just because you don’t want to play it is just being a child. Is like; “please don’t make Chronomancer because I don’t like playing Mesmer and I prefer that all of you people work on something that I do like.”
Bring back SAB!

I grew up tolerating Mario – I preferred Megaman. If you want nostalgia in gaming, there are actual reboots/HD releases of the original franchises such as Super Mario Maker, Rare Collection, Transformers: Devastation, etc.. I would much rather play them if I have the time to spare since a lot of mega releases are coming out.
As far as I am concerned, as long as SAB stays contained within its own instance and it does not affect (ruin imo) the aesthetic of the general game I am fine.
Pretty sure troll
But if not:
Raids among other things are coming, Sure dev attention is needed elsewhere right now but that doesn’t mean this can’t be developed. Especially since majority of players do enjoy it.
It’d be like removing or not creating costume brawl, or sanctum sprint and at least those have a vast majority of players who don’t care, but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t exist.
As long as the core content is properly attended to there should be no issue with things like SAB being in the game.
Unless your one of those people who gets some sort of weird satisfaction from denying things people like, when the thing they enjoy is at no cost, and has no effect on you.

I don’t understand the OP’s complaint. Can’t you just ignore it if it does come back? It would make a lot of people happy if it did so that should give you a warm glow on their behalf
I poked my nose in it once and soon found out it was not my thing but I was able to move on and find other things to do.
Incidentally, OP, I believe its charm was because it reminded people of the old games. It was intended that way.
What the heck is SAB?

first no need to get insulting. second i’m 37 years old. my first computer was the first home computer(my dad had it because he programmed for the state government; which had them first) so I remember Zork(the first rpg) and temple of Apshi(the first graphical rpg) and neverwinter nights on aol (the first mmo). I’ve played literally every console released in NA. but you know what was awesome? as time went on my games got better; computers got better/consoles got better, games got better in general. super Mario brothers was great because there weren’t many options at the time. so yes I grew up with it and yes I understand the development arc. that’s why I am impressed with how far it has come and how far it will go. but once you’ve shot off a railgun at a targeting board you really aren’t interested in taking the half hour to load a single shot into your musket and taking that shot on the same targeting board. evolution is good.
(edited by Warlock.7136)
Zork was not an RPG.
It was a text adventure, and definitely not the first.
Now that I have looked up SAB, I hope they do bring it back, so I can get the weapon skins.

as I stated previously in this thread, I can’t ignore it if it has AP. I need all I can get and can’t afford to skip it in this regard. so if it’s going to have associated achievments then I have to do them. once pvp/wvw/dungeon/storyline/jump puzzles/fashion collections/other misc collections are done the AP scene gets scarce, and I still need 16k to get my full hellfire set which is something I’ve been working toward for years now. so yes I could “just ignore it” IF it was a minigame and had few or preferably No achievements associated with it. but this is not the case and so in my modern mmo I will be forced to play an 8 bit junkpile. hopefully this clears this up.
SAB isn’t my cup of tea either; however, I’m not going to (try to) deprive those that do like it of its content. If Anet decides to bring SAB back, all well and good. Means I can take the time and catch up on other stuff.

You can choose to not do it. No one forces you to do any content.
There will be other content released that has AP, I haven’t seen anything that says if they release SAB they will never release any other content with AP.
Your lack of patience on getting the hellfire armor is not a good enough reason to not reintroduce SAB. Sorry.

Which I get. But, you’re still choosing to do something you don’t want to do—you don’t have to get those APs, as I’m sure there’ll be other events/festivals/content updates that have their fair share—and telling a fairly large amount of people who do, in fact, like the S.A.B. that they can’t have what they want because you don’t like it.
I think that this is, unfortunately, gonna have to be a case of “bite the bullet” if you’re that adamant about getting the APs related to it. As for games evolving? Yeah, sure, evolution is good—but so is a nice bit of nostalgia here and there.

A lot of people are interested in loading a single shot in to a musket and taking that shot though. By your logic martial arts, both of asian and european bent, would be wastes of time because the art of fighting has “evolved”
You know what? Swordfighting, boxing, MMA, etc. are still quite popular. As are multiple forms of “antiquated weapon” target shooting.
This isn’t medicine. Evolution of design isn’t a simple function of accomplishing a rigid goal better. This isn’t getting better at killing people or saving their lives. It’s video games. Fun is a very subjective thing. Not liking the kind of platforming play that SAB includes is fine. Attempting to state that it’s somehow factually inferior is not. This is a matter of opinion, because it’s a matter of taste.
Your tastes have changed, but many people still really like the specific mechanics of old style side scrolling platformers because they are mechanics that are replaced not improved by the inclusion of 3d. It’s an apples and oranges comparison, not an apples and bigger, tastier apples comparison.

The old Great Collapse in Divinity’s Reach was originally supposed to be a Canthan district, but NCSoft told ANet that having a bunch of east Asian architecture next to European architecture was racist and it got cut.

my bad your right I had forgot about Adventure. this was the 1st rpg ever.(which I also played)

I knew about the great hole, it was completely disappointing to me as someone who loved cantha and ritualists, and the whole idea behind it to not have a Canthan district in Divintys Reach. I was also aware that NCSoft told Anet that, i meant the part about him no longer being part of the company ^^
Sorry for being offtopic though!
if you don’t like it, don’t play it. i don’t like you, by your logic you should be not allowed to live. why should we give a kitten about what you like or not? if you want ap you’ll have to force yourself like with anything else. it’s your choice that you want that set sooner than later.
just another sad kittener begrudging others what he doesn’t like. there seems to be a nest somewhere close.
actually by my logic, you shouldn’t have to associate or talk with me to play gw2. and you don’t have to.
also it’s not a “sooner or latter issue” it’s a possible or not. not sure you’ve ran the numbers but there isn’t many ap that you can miss at all and still get that set.

Also a note about opinions which is what I stated in my origin post all this was.(IMO=in my opinion). your allowed to say “I like this content and I want more” and I’m allowed to say “I didn’t like this content and I don’t want to see anymore” that’s the great thing about freedom of expression; you get to express YOUR free will with your opinions.
What the heck is SAB?
SAB stands for Super Adventure Box, it’s a sort of odd arcade style, platform jumper, meets mario/zelda type ‘mini’-game. It’s hard to describe:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Super_Adventure_Box
It was super cool, look up a video for ‘sunny glade’ which is the first level to get a feel for it.
• Have you heard of the city? The ancient uru? Where there was power to write worlds •
SAB had better be a “sooner or later” thing, given that the developers have sold an item in the gemstore that was useful for 2 weeks, 2 years ago, and has been useless since then. While they’ve said multiple times that they’re not working on SAB, they’ve also promised it will be back, and refused to issue refunds on the item they sold. Saying, “I don’t like it, so nobody should be able to do it” is ridiculously selfish. And trying to back-pedal and say that it’s just your opinion isn’t very well thought out.
It’s going to come back, and you’re going to have to deal with it.
-Mike O’Brien
Because we can’t be angry about both?
Sorry to hear that you don’t enjoy Sab. I’m also sorry that you think the developers world revolves around you. You’re entitled to your own opinion, but there is a world past the screen of your monitor. Lots of people in that world have been asking for Sab for a long long time.
Also, making kitten posts based on rumor is bad practice.

Since I’m already getting infracted, I’ll double post. This is a personal choice, and therefore a personal problem. You have full control if you do or do not play SAB.
How do people who don’t like SAB suffer from it being here? I don’t get it, play other content or something.
