Everything she touched crumbled to dust.
Hopefully with this expansion anet makes a remove button so that you can remove people who have not played the game in years off your followers list.
If you block them do they move off your followers list then?
No they stay on your block list and can see which map etc your on which is kind of creepy.
I believe they do.
Of course, then they are on one’s Block List. /shrug
There is currently no support for softblocking (removing followers).
There is also no real blocking, all that blocking them does is make them see you offline, they can still see what map you’re on and everything, and if you unblock them then they move right back to the followers list.
The problems with the block system have been reported hundreds of times, but ArenaNet doesn’t seem to care about it because its low priority. Anything that gets marked low priority in software development is never revisited.

You were talking about people who haven’t played in years and wishing to remove them from your followers list. The people who haven’t logged on can’t see which map you’re on (since they’re not online, you know) and you can get them off your followers list with block.

True. But you said to just remove them to block list which is what i don’t want to do because i don’t like blocking people unless they deserve it. Besides that just moves them to another list which you can still see.
Actually removing someone is simply never going to happen. The followers list only lets you know who has added you to their friends list. Removing them would mean editing someone else’s friends list. If ArenaNet’s going to do anything, they’re simply going to remove the list altogether.

It’s unlikely that ANet will ever give us a way to move people off the followers list as it involves changing someone else’s account. (Your account name is on their friend’s list. You’re seeing part of someone else’s list). The best you’re likely to get is the ability to move it so you can’t see it on your friend’s list, which moving to block does).
“But you said to just remove them to block list which is what i don’t want to do because i don’t like blocking people unless they deserve it.”
They’re gone. According to you they haven’t logged on in years. Whether they deserve to be moved to block is a moot point. They’ll never know unless they happen to log on and they happen to message you, which is unlikely. They probably don’t remember who is who on their list after all this time.
Personally my real recommendation is to quit checking and looking at the lists since they are bothering you to the point that you’re making a thread on the forum.

Block functionality works like this in literally any other game or online service. What this game implements is actually something more like IRC’s /ignore.

This.
I’ll be honest outside of a few guildies and close friends I keep in contact with regularly, I don’t remember who most of the people on my friends list are and many of them don’t even login all that much anymore.
So when I do see them online I’m not inclined to say anything as it would be the equivalent of “Hey… you!”
I’m sure we added each other for some relevant reason at some point so I don’t mind that they’re there or that there are a couple dozen people that have me on their friends list.
Maybe someday I’ll randomly start talking to these people and see if any of them remember anything relevant that we did together or if they want to do stuff or something. >:3
It could be worse, I’ve been playing since beta and over the years I’ve transferred to multiple servers and back and forth from EU to NA, NA to EU a few times. So at this point for me I have 100+ on my followers and I don’t know what server they are from let alone what region they are from, Plus every random patch the list randomizes so it just add’s to the confusion, At this point the followers list is completely 100% useless for me. Then you have the privacy concern, There’s a few creepers I don’t like on my list and it bugs me that they can see when i’m online even if I block them, they still see me change map, Although I know some players have it much worse with actual perv stalkers.
Lets me honest, The entire friends list system in guild wars 2 has felt like an ‘alpha version’ since day one, We’re 5 years in and I can’t see them changing it at this point. It actually makes me admire WoW a little bit more because in WoW you send someone a request, they accept, your friends. If you’re not friends anymore, you unfriend them and they are removed from your list, its so straightforward, simple and it works. I understand why anet went the whole followers list route, when making the game twitter was huge and anet thought it would be cool to mimic the whole ‘how many followers can you get’ social media kitten thing, I get that, And don’t get me wrong it does have its uses especially early on, but as time goes on it becomes confusing/useless and potentially dangerous.
I think they should put time into either removing it or refining it, but I doubt they will.
Peace
