What problem is this a solution for?
The best way to get a dev to bring up this solution is to rationally describe the problem. Then give a solution. Then think of possible downsides to your solution and give possible counters against those downsides.
You have only given a solution.
One con of your solution is more info on the screen, when we’re already losing tons of particle and skill effect graphics in order to keep FPS as high as possible. Which is already angering other players.
Another con is when is it trolling and when is it someone just being stupid and not thinking about the fact that they’re on top of the chest when they plop down the trading post NPC to see how much that exotic they got is worth? As I think that’s the problem you’re trying to solve. But again, since you haven’t defined your problem…
Possible title: Exclusion zone around spawned items plz
And then ask that spawned items such as feasts, NPC, banners, fun boxes, etc not be allowed within a certain distance of each other or other NPCs.
ANet may give it to you.

Took me Just a flesh wound to understand…
May I add something about guild banners that are spawned at the exact same place?
I suppose it’s a question of common sense
The issue is that the game prioritizes these NPCs over other uses of [f] in the area — there would be no reason to worry about reporting someone if e.g. a crafting station or harvesting node triggered the [f] first.
Or alternatively, [f] would trigger the spawned NPC first only for the player that spawned it — that way, at worst, they would troll themselves (intentionally or otherwise).
Including the account name is a work-around to a problem that could be prevented entirely.
speaking of work-arounds, what I use is:
- Add a hotkey for Trigger: Next Ally (and/or previous ally)
- Cycle through the allies until the node you want appears.
Works great for when someone uses the Guild Banner Tonic, too.

That’s because the title is supposed to be just a short heading, then you use the actual post to explain the issue in more detail.
(There is a character limit for posts too, but it’s huge. The only time I’ve hit it was when I tried to post a summary of issues with the last 3 chapters of the personal story that was about 3 pages long in a word document, and even then I only had to split it into two posts.)
As someone else said it’s highly unlikely you’ll get any useful responses from Anet (or even other players) when you haven’t explained what the issue is, why you think it’s a problem and what you’d like to see done to fix it. Without that there’s really nothing for anyone to respond to.
You may think it’s an obvious problem that every single person in the game is aware of, and equally annoyed by, but that’s a fatal mistake for trying to get changes made. It’s actually better to risk giving too much detail than to assume everyone already knows everything you might say.

And I wouldn’t have been able to guess what the issue was if I hadn’t heard other people in other threads actually say what the issue was. New players to the forum or new players in general may not be aware of the problem.
Same here. I was thinking combat NPCs – things like Mesmer clones, charr Warband Support allies, the animals from the Ogre Pet Whistle etc.
I’m not sure why you might want to report them, but there’s all kinds of strange tricks and exploits people keep coming up with so it wouldn’t surprise me.

Would have appreciated more information from the OP in the first post. After reading I’m still not entirely sure what it’s about. As far as I can see it could be about;
-Personal summoned NPCs from permanent contracts that can be interacted with but don’t open a window for players that didn’t summon them
-Items being spawned on top of NPCs that make players interact with the item/other “troll” NPC instead of the intended NPC.
Please OP, be specific. You can never give too much information, but here you haven’t given us any.
Anet isn’t banning anyone for that.
The issue of the OP is clear, every information is given to us in the topic. He is looking forward to NPC also having accounts, so he can add them as friends. Maybe nobody wants to play with him.
I think he want’s to see a banker (summoned one) to have a name like
Sthenith.5196 Banker, or merchant.
So he can report those ppl for…..i dunno, standing there ? No frikkin clue.
And since we’re on topic, i want banners to have the name of those that put em there, so i can report em for not aligning those properly. It’s very very disturbing for my OCD.
Show some equilibrium ppl, please.
lmao.
When people put banners on my ice bow. Report.

Personally I’m against this. ANet could have someone spawning NPCs and use this to claim the game has 1,000,0000,000 accounts online simultaneously, 24/7.
ANet may give it to you.
So, what the OP wanted has been sorted out. The burning question is why? What possible rule infraction can be committed by spawning an NPC. (and it’s not that I want to do it – really)

The NPCs have to buy HoT then. Otherwise it’s totally unfair. And also a bit racist. Just because I’m not made of pixels doesn’t mean I should have to pay full price for HoT when NPCs get to have it for free. They should also be required to craft and grind out their own legendary weapons. Looking at you master Hobbs >.>

Nope, I’ve yet to see where the OP said what s/he wanted. Could have been a few things.

When the spawner is deliberately griefing others by planting an object/NPC on top of something like a banker making it impossible for other players to target that ‘something’ because the game client only can ‘see’ the spawned object/NPC.
yes please

I’d like to report this kitten for spamming me this whilst I sort out my depressing loot.

- It’s not “impossible” to target — it’s just tedious.
- The problem isn’t going to be solved by reporting people; some will still do it accidentally and some on purpose. ANet’s not going to ban anyone for doing it a few times.
- The underlying issue is that the [f]/interact prioritizes summoned NPCs/nodes over the ones in the instance and that is almost certainly easier to adjust than to create entirely new code for the summoned objects.
So let’s not make the interface more cumbersome to solve a minor irritation. Let’s instead address the actual issue of making sure that [f] prioritizes correctly in the first place (since this isn’t the only example where it could be improved).
Alternatively do what Blizzard implement from time to time to defeat the griefers, put an exclusion area around important NPCs the prevent their being blocked (accidentally or deliberately).
This also stops players being kitten and putting large characters like Charr and Norns wearing mega-sized gear and the stupid angel wings people seem to think are ‘kewl’ which also block NPCs.

People think they’re funny by putting merchant, boxes ’o fun and other stuff on top of e.g. rich oricalchum nodes, ancient saplings, NPCs you need to talk to and reward chests. I think the OP has a point, being able to ban griefers like that would be a good thing. Even better would be if items like that had an exclusion area around them, so you could not place anything near them.
Just have a binded button to toggle the targeted items when multiple items are superposed. That’s almost 0 work for ANET there. Like, really almost 0.
MashMash.1645 > When the first answer to your thread has made a clear point about how you did NOT specify ANYTHING on what you want here, why are you replying with even less informations? Don’t glare at ANET for your own inabilities to build a clear and informative sentence on the matter that brought you here.
I think I know why (and if its the same reason, I agree) OP wants that. Lately theres been a few people who like to troll things like Triple Trouble mechanics with spawned NPCs/Banners/BoxOfFun/etc. For example, just yesterday, someone decided to spam trays of cakes around the dead adventurer where you get the harpoon inside of Amber. Granted the food isn’t as badas when people spawn stuff like BL merchants/traders on it, since it takes a bit before the interact with that food is available again, but its still a major annoyance (and potential cause of event failure). It would be really nice for us to be able to report them, since this is basically in the same category of the people who were spamming seige in WvW (which I do believe Anet took action against).
Please give us a keyring…
