Fellow Tyrians!

In GW1 we had access to Skill templates (PvX) / Gear templates (PvP only)
Currently I have to keep screenshots of my builds to remember where all my points where spent. With the addition of elite specs it further adds build choices to memorize.

Because of the hassle of reverting builds to something that’s useful it makes me hesitant to experiment.

Pros:
Encourages experimentation as you can easily revert to your old build by just loading your saved template.
Encourages sharing of builds with other people to give/receive instant feedback.

Cons:
If not regulated in dungeons could possibly be used to “min-max” your performance per fight, which seems kind of unfair/not intended.

For people who did not play GW1 a template would work as following:

Your skillbar and your allocated “traits” would generate a unique hash for that exact combination. i.e. OQITEZJbnJqsXpKMleSTZzIAA (IWAY BABY!). You could save these as textfiles in your GW directory to be able to automatically load your builds from the Character sheet interface or you could just Copy-paste the hash and click load. It would load up your traits, utilities, and it was done!

I think such a feature would help evolve the meta as it would be easier to save builds that counter the current meta, forcing the creation of builds to counter the counter-meta, forcing the creation of counter-counter-meta builds… ad infinitum (get it? lol.)

My GW1 templates folder contained 600 saved skill builds in total (all classes).
My current warrior builds repertoire contains 5.

Is there any legit reason why such a feature is not included in GW2?

Thanks for reading!

I believe a build saving (and presumably sharing) feature is something they’ve said they would like to do they just haven’t yet.

So hopefully one of those things that will get worked on after HoT is up and running smoothly.

There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon

It’s something I’d love to see too. The GW1 thing where you could “publish” your build in chat and others could inspect it, copy it and/or save it locally to disk was superb and copying builds from websites was quick and simple too.

It’s more complicated in GW2 because of the way the weapon selections change the skill bar but it should be achievable with a bit of thought.
If the whole load/save thing is too complex then just giving us a second equipment/skill bar that we could toggle would work. Restrict the toggling to “safe” areas if that makes it easier.

Given the vibrant “build swapping” community that developed in GW1 I was surprised it was not implemented in GW2 from the start.

Peeps been asking for that since day one so I wouldn’t hold my breath. Yes Anet did comment but that was years ago so once again I wouldn’t hold my breath….

WvW, PvP, PvE, JP’s, and everything in between it would be easy to create a templete for each one and use each and everyone but for some reason Anet doesn’t want to provide. Also might as well toss on additional weapon slots since we only have two slots available while GW1 had about 5 slots. As a Mesmer I have to switch my loadout for every mode but just like a quick change for a build a quick change for a weapon would also be nice.

I didn’t exchange builds much, but by Ishtar, I made a ton of “picture stories” with the icons. Poke the baby!

GW1 also had weapon specific skills, but i understand what you mean, you don’t get the actual skills unless you equip a certain weapon. But even if you had to swap weapons manually as long as your traits and healing/utility/elite was covered you’d still be more then half way in the right direction!

@Xecil: A classic one that always made me laugh.
