Please don't make DR similar to Lion's Arch
I have to agree. LA is a strange situation – very theme park yet created by Pirates. I don’t often connect Pirates with whimsy.
Nevermind that you’d think they would have made LA better fortified after Scarlet’s attack.

Exactly! Seeing its reconstruction left my jaw dropped….but not in a good way.
Yeah, LA now is an absolute joke. I make new toons in an empty slot every now and then to play up to the story that takes place in old LA then leave them there so I can see the old map after having to visit the new one.
That being said, I wouldn’t mind seeing some damage spread out over parts of DR that later get fixed a bit.

I far prefer the new LA to the old one. I’d love to see DR get a makeover.

The old LA had character. The new LA IS characters lol (octopus, starfish, lobster…)
I very much doubt they’d overhaul DR completely, but it would be in keeping with the Living World for it to become damaged and stay damaged for a while. DR has changed slightly since launch due to the addition of the Pavilion, so other small revamps are feasible.
Having dynamic, changing and vibrant cities is exactly what a fantasy World should have, especially in Tyria where so much carnage occurs.

I don’t know that anyone objects to DR changing, just hope it doesn’t change like LA.
I suggest you lodge your complaints about Lion’s Arch with the Consortium. They ~may~ listen to you…eventually.

I actually like the new LA. It’s probably because the old one, to me, felt sort of claustrophobic.

I think the old LA reused architecture and threw stuff together haphazardly. It had a retro history and nostalgia; it didn’t have any memorable character for me.
I think the new LA is far more interesting, in terms of form and function. It’s a preference, not any sort of objective measure.
(Although, I do think the old LA had better ambient NPC conversation. I love the tour guide and the sprinting Queen’s Jubilee NPC, but nothing beats raisin face and playing ghosts and ogden’s hammer.)
I loved old LA. New LA is not awful to me, but seems VERY spread out, and yes theme park like. I would not mind a DR redo. (sans lobster)
I don’t want them spending effort changing maps (cities) that we already have. I want new ones.
New LA = Disney Tyria
I’d just prefer for it (and mostly Shaemoor) to just not be Kryta #2 where the dumb LS mechanics and monsters stayed and stayed for no reason.
LA is very generic and soulless now, but the other Human-area-invasion actually left broken game mechanics there.

The main problem with LA is that the parts people spend most of their time are the theme park bits. If those had followed the character of the terraces it’d be fine.
Her Shoeless Majestythe Queen of Waifu Meta said it wont fall; so no worry.

I like all the different versions of LA. Each has pros and cons, more pros then cons.
DR will have all districts burning and then the middle will release clockwork knights to recapture everything.
After a very long time of rebuilding DR all districts will be that of Canthan thematic.

Agreed. We went from something that, while not being well laid out OR utilized, actually FELT like a city. Now it’s just a mess.
And oh gods do I sure hate going into Kessex Hills / Peaks / Whatever nowadays thanks to all the mucked up leftovers in it.

Agreed, but the biggest problem is that, post overhaul, the “other areas” except the Skritt Pile thing (because Triforge Amulet stuff or whatever it was) and the Sharkmaw jumping puzzle are all GONE.
There’s really nothing to go bumble into or explore anymore unless you count some ogres or ettins (which I’ve really not gone over to recently, now that I think about it).

While I hope ANet wouldn’t be so bankrupt on concepts to start recycling stuff … again, I would find it interesting if there was a siege of some description that caused overworld damage in the city. Nothing major, but perhaps some portions turned into hostile instances or the like (so the city is still USABLE). Could be fun to work to rebuild and secure things over time.
Though the last thing we should be doing is kittening over some newbies just leaving Shaemoor.
I have a feeling perhaps the map the Chines version of Guild Wars 2 that was added some weeks back was an unfinished version of a new area for this update. Would make sense that once the east levy breaks that the lake there would drain out and would be a way to show a large scale invasion of DR but not affect low level characters in Queensdale.
Also since that portion of the map happens to line up with the player home instance district they could leave most of DR intact and have the battle be seen over the gates surrounding the district but still have a door there so people can travel to the original instanced version of the home instance for story or general purposes.
Agreed in general, DR overall theme and style should not change, but it’d be ok to see some changes to the layout (also, wouldn’t it be nice to visit the DR catacombs from the beginning of Ghosts of Ascalon?).
In regards to LA…I’ve mixed feelings about it. I did like the pirate-y version…it had a life to it even if it was at times an eye sore. The new version, stylistically did have potential, but failed in its overall implementation.
Don’t worry, the Chronomancers will Doctor Strange the damage away.

hmm not sure, where is it? =O?
I’d love to see Divinity’s Reach having a great make-over.
I am so excited for the new living story as Kryta’s capital city is getting destroyed by one of my favorites bad-guys faction!
Glory to the White Mantle!
This post cracked me up. Thank you for that. I love to see changes to old areas of the game. I just wish we could have access to instanced versions of the old maps for a trip down memory lane every now and then.
As far as Divinity’s Reach is concerned I say blow it up! Just make sure the battle is epic.
I am wondering if we will finally get into the sewers of Divinity’s Reach because of this battle.
Although I quite like the style and layout of Divinity’s Reach, I don’t mind if some of the city does get destroyed, rebuilt, or redesigned a bit. As long as they don’t go and LA it up!
Some bits of old LA were a pain to navigate and felt too cramped (those ships high up), but the new LA is just lifeless, it just feels like one big empty soulless concrete wasteland, rather than a main city / hub for people to gather. I like the layout, but the whole place feels deserted, and with the boring grayish / white colour everywhere it has a sort of eerie soviet / north Korea vibe to it. The old one felt busy, full of life and had a proper atmosphere to it. And stuff like that Lobster thing we have now, what the hell were they smoking when they came up with that?!
Maybe stuff like more npcs filling up the space would help a bit, like a busy market in the middle or something like that to form crowds. Or some days have a ship docked unloading stuff etc so the city is a bit more dynamic. Though I guess it could hit performance, so that’s probably why we don’t see that in the cities.
It doubt it will be destroyed, just attacked. We will repell the attack!
~Sincerely, Scissors
The plan is to have the Salma District (ie, Home) destroyed so that it can be rebuilt to accommodate player Housing, including a Stable for mounts, and a Vestibule (a place to store build templates).

YOOOOOO LMAOOO my thoughts EXACTLY!

I WISH!! If they do that i’ll be happy

So why would they do that only to the Salma district then? There are more “Homes” than just that.
And God do i hope there will never be freaking mounts in this game.
Guys…
The episode drops in less than 7 days, they aren’t going to change it now lols.
I don’t know that anyone objects to DR changing, just hope it doesn’t change like LA.
You know one now. DR is my favorite of the race cities. I like the layout and architecture. It is the one that feels most like a real city.
I personally do not want them to mess with it. I’m tired of “blow it up” as a method for change instead of being creative and doing something different.

And a pond for the new fishing system!

I don’t think DR will be destroyed really. A.net tends to shy away from shocking world map changes since Season 1. I remember reading it’s an issue and part of the reason why Kessex Hills is still a mess as if things just happened.

I’d actually enjoy big shocking events more… at least that way enemy reworks and other things can be implemented way easier…

Me too honestly. It would put a lot more weight behind these big story happenings, that’s for sure.
re: Guys… The episode drops in less than 7 days, they aren’t going to change it now lols. – It’s not the destruction we’re concerned about – it’s the rebuild, and how horrible it will/will not be. And that rebuild is far enough out that we may be able to influence what they do,
For instance, I fall into the camp that is terrified that DR could come out looking like the soulless, contemporary theme park lump of concrete, totally devoid of any character or spirit, that rebuilt LA turned out to be.
So please don’t make DR anything like rebuilt LA. We like it the way it is. Looking like it belongs in a fantasy world. Please do not destroy the soul, flavor, and character of Divinity’s Reach. Please do not make it a bland, flavorless, soulless, lump of concrete like rebuilt LA. And please do not make the layout less convenient. It’s good the way it is. Please do not “improve” it like you did LA, making everything spread out, and inconvenient.

There’s always the possibility that the attack will be in some sort of story instance, either solo or group play, and that the real time DR will be untouched.
While old LA had a certain amount of charm, I prefer new LA.

If any of you believe that’s all going to happen, I’ve a bridge you might be interested in buying.
The more I think about it, the more I wonder if they’ll split DR into 2 cities. If they don’t then people who haven’t paid for it will get access to this part of this LS section.
What they could do is have the old DR and it will be there for all who don’t have HoT or this LS. It will also be there to all who don’t go into the map where DR is being attacked but choose to stay in the old DR. To access the new attacked DR and the map behind the city there could be a portal that’s blocked for all non HoT owners. The new map and new DR could be continuously under attack by the White Mantle with instanced story line just like the HoT maps are still continuously under attack by Mordremoth with instanced storyline. It would be static “defend DR” map like the HoT maps are a static “win these maps against Mordremoth”
I love the new LA and despise the old one, so I guess it is a matter of taste

If they rebuild DR after that onslaught, please let us be part of the process.
- Allow us to vote on characters/architects that each have their own different vision of the city.
- Have different designs to go towards too
- Don’t go “BAM” new city. Take it and be quiet. Without any real build up. LA was badly done, as it didn’t forshadow the endresult in anyway, but instead dropped it over night. There were barely any steps in between.
- Give us more stake, than “choose a name”. This is now participation, that’s blindsiding the players with something unimportant. Heck, even the “Guildname” was nothing more than a cheap GoT reference, with no real impact or reasoning.
- Put more effort into it. We know that you are able to, since you did it with the Kiel/Gnashblade debatte. That actually felt like something.
I mean, just imagine if we could have voted on race integration in LA. As a multi-culti city, there could have been a Asura quarter, studyng the ley lin energy. Or we could have voted against it, because it would be dangerous.
So many possibilities in design choices, that could have made some interesting stories for the future.
A) If you think they are going to change or not change anything at this point..you’re very late…It drops in 7 days -.-
B) New LA is much better than the old one..sure it doesn’t have as much character, but at least the main dam area isn’t as crowed as a box of cats…ALways hated how small old LA was.
